From a casual observer point I think the players had lost confidence in him. Didnt seem to matter whether you had a stormer one week, you could be dropped for weeks after and the cycle continues. Giving out about the players more than other managers and buying complete donkeys didnt help either. He's given out more player loans in the last few months than my local bank.

Owen cut his teeth at lower league level in Scotland and ironically perhaps Sunderland was too big a job for Keane without previous experience.

Keane is consistent. When the going gets tough he walks away. He will try to leave the impression that it was because he did'nt get funds that he resigned. Nothing could be further from the truth. He wasted millions after millions on players that no one else wanted. Quinn indulged him as did the money men. But even that bunch o' wallies realised they were wasting money recklessly.
People say that he brought Sunderland up from the bottom. OK , LETS LOOK AT THAT. When he arrived he was handed loads of money to get them up the table. Anybody who knew anything about the game could have done the job, given the amount of cash that was available .

Incorect, Keane had a bigger budget then anyone bar Birmingham that season (who sold Heskey, Pennant and then Upson to generate it) and had a higher net spend then anyone in that league. Wonder will he come back into management at all? It won't be easy to find as sweet a deal as he had at Sunderland and the finanacial backing he received there. Can't exactly see him going down the divisions to take over at Macclesfield or the like.
