Sky Sports reporting he has definitely walked
Sky Sports News are reporting that he is gone this morning.
Guardian newspaper website also reporting he is gone
Oops! A little hasty on my behalf. Sorry!
Sad to see him go, wonder whats gonna happen all the new age Ireland supporters now. Not sure Keane is upto the managerial game unfortunately. Hard to see what job he'd go to next.
True to form. Cant wait to see who he blames.

top notch stuff, 'alright there'
Shown up as the spoofer he is. First hint of trouble and he sulks and then walks, sound familiar? The next Brian Robson.
From a casual observer point I think the players had lost confidence in him. Didnt seem to matter whether you had a stormer one week, you could be dropped for weeks after and the cycle continues. Giving out about the players more than other managers and buying complete donkeys didnt help either. He's given out more player loans in the last few months than my local bank.
hardly a spoofer considering what he did in the two previous seasons. He has had trouble with Sunderland before now. Having said that his team selections in the last few weeks have been baffling, the team hasnt been settled in weeks. Although I doubt Sunderland will get a manager who will do much better than Keane has.
Bad, erratic manager who was an impulse buyer. Quinn has to take some of the blame for giving him too much money to squander. Reckon that the end of Roy as a manager until Trap finishes his contract and Keane will be dragged out again by his legions of devotees.
Reckon there may be a few Sunderland season tickets going for a song over the XMAS.
i hear he's taking the Bulgaria job...
At least if he has realised that he is not up to the job maybe Sunderland will have time to get their act together as save themselves from relegation.
Owen Coyle if its not a little too soon and if he could be tempted away from Burnley(might not be that hard unfortunately for Burnley)
Owen cut his teeth at lower league level in Scotland and ironically perhaps Sunderland was too big a job for Keane without previous experience.
he was in trouble last season yet saw it through and they stayed up so your comment is nonsense. he took them over when thay were near the bottom of the championship and steered them to a very impressive league win and promotion. how many other sunderland managers have managed promotion and kept them up the following season?
He indulged in a bit too much shopping therapy at Woolworths, afterwards complaining that the goods were faulty, also complained that there was no remote control in the package.
Meanwhile other managers who shopped at similar stores were able to repair any faults and embarrassed him. But Roy still persisted in complaining about the faulty goods.
He did provide a retirement home of sorts for our veteran players but then he would chuck them out in the middle of winter.
How many other Sunderland managers have had a budget comparable with the top clubs in Europe? £80m in 2 seasons and about £10 spent in the Championship. To even be troubled with relegation after spending £50m last year showed he wasn't up to it. Got lucky with Andy Reid hitting form after he bought him last season, would've gone down otherwise.
Hopefully it wont be Allardyce or Curbishley and of the young managers about Owen Coyle looks one of the brightest prospects(and I am not saying that just because he has played for Ireland)
Probably next season would be better for him(a little more experience)but if a big club makes an offer it has to be taken. That kind of a chance does not come around too often.
Hopefully the Sunderland board will have the courage to go for the upcoming manager.
Keane is consistent. When the going gets tough he walks away. He will try to leave the impression that it was because he did'nt get funds that he resigned. Nothing could be further from the truth. He wasted millions after millions on players that no one else wanted. Quinn indulged him as did the money men. But even that bunch o' wallies realised they were wasting money recklessly.
People say that he brought Sunderland up from the bottom. OK , LETS LOOK AT THAT. When he arrived he was handed loads of money to get them up the table. Anybody who knew anything about the game could have done the job, given the amount of cash that was available .
Let,s get real here.
This guy walked when he could'nt face up to it in Saipan and now he's done it again.
End of story!
Incorect, Keane had a bigger budget then anyone bar Birmingham that season (who sold Heskey, Pennant and then Upson to generate it) and had a higher net spend then anyone in that league. He was also able to offer lower level Premier league wages to attract the likes of Connolly, Miller, Kavanagh etc back down to the Championship.
The excuses being trotted out by those still blinkered for his failure are embarrassing at this stage. Is Sunderland any less attractive as a destination for a player then Wigan for example? Or Hull for that matter?
He is only 37? Thats amazing. He looks 47.
I thought this thread was about what this means for the Irish players at Sunderland. Otherwise it should be moved elsewhere since it is irrelevant to the Irish team thread. Oui ?
Wonder will he come back into management at all? It won't be easy to find as sweet a deal as he had at Sunderland and the finanacial backing he received there. Can't exactly see him going down the divisions to take over at Macclesfield or the like.
