Not necessarily...if this is proven then Byrne may get a ban for life!!
How will he get a ban for life? It cannot be illegal for a player to say to another player How would you like to play for [insert team name].
Nope Byrne will get his knuckles rapped by Drogheda and sign for Bohs (or possibly Pat's the only two teams that can afford him) on an inflated wage.
Fine player. Born leader too.
Know a friend of his and his mates gave him massive abuse of the "despicable rant". Hugely embarressed by it. He actually credits kenny for saving his career as he was about to give it up when toiling away with Home Farm (in whatever guise they were then)
Every manager in the country (or the world really) taps up players. Thats just the way it works (and has done for decades). Players in Drogheda obviously feeling a little bit nervous about the future so of course they're going to talk about moves.
Be amazed if he wasn't at Bohs next year
Can't understand what all the fuss is about.
Tapping-up is an integral part of football - like it or not - it happens.
The football world is very small in the League of Ireland.
Most players and coaching staff keep in touch with each other after moving clubs.
It's quite common for a manager to 'enquire about the availability' of player(s) through an inside third party.
Its been obvious this season that Byrne hasn't given 2 f*cks about playing for Drogheda. Some of his diplays have been nothing short of disgraceful. His mind has obviously been on a big gay orgy with all his old bum chums at Bohs. And instead of playing out his, I'm sure very healthy contract, what does he do? He further unsettles an already unsettled squad in such underhand ways.
Actions of a born leader, a fine player? No. Looks more like the actions of an utter c*nt to me.
What goes around comes around.
Hughes was tapping up Faz when he was on our books. I know Hughes had left and, i'm sure Doolan didn't know he was doing it:rolleyes:
Doolin was calling, wrecking Cookies head nearly everyday from the end of last season asking what the story was with Faz, although i wouldnt be surprised if Hughes influenced his decision, although that happens in football alot, when a player leaves to a club where he knows a former team mate.
It will be interesting to see what the PFAI has to say when the truth comes out about Byrne, have Drogs released a statement yet?
Unfortunatel Byrne sums up everything that is bad about some of the top eircom league players. Absolutely NO loyalty whatsoever. Money may talk but it also makes players walk... Byrne Ranting on about how other people were carrying on sure how long ago was that and now he will be moving clubs AGAIN. The top players have realised they just have to sulk or mope around before they make there move to their new club. Then they cen dangle their new club colours over their heads at a press conference and say they were not happy and justify the move rather than admitting that they had it good at the last club, sometimes very good, sometimes even through injuries and dips in form they still got paid that juicy cheque every week. The truth might be that they see a bigger pay day or a handier shift.
Just watch the players jump ship at end of the season for pastures new! Some of them wont make sense at all.
Pity really as the Eircom league clubs have not got the financial powers that the Premier league clubs across the water have yet players here still expect to milk everything they can out of any and every club that they can.
Now Stuey thats my rant over if your reading :D
Are you serious? Clueless, gutless clubs facilitating mercenary players like Stuey Byrne (or any one of a hundred others) are the reason clubs are in such trouble.
Byrne got caught and accordingly if it can be proven Drogheda are right on to show him the door. But he is the rule as opposed to the exception in this. At every level players get tapped up. It's one of the unpleasant truths of the game and the moral indignation doesn't mask that.

The best thing to do is not jump to their every whim. Pay players what they are worth (in LOI terms) and ask them what they can do for clubs as opposed to the other way around.Quote:

I think we'll be wising up at city now after recent events. Players in general have admirable characteristics in general. They will drop clubs at the drop of a hat, not even consider fans for all the bull they spout, loyalty they dont know the meaning of, some of them laugh at the lengths fans will go to support their clubs. I agree, some players become complete tossers.
Do we have a brand-new most hated player in the league? If only Georgie was still here, we could have a fat wallet competition.
LoI players and managers are all part of the one incestuous pool. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded, and naive in the extreme if you think tapping up isn't the rule rather than exception. The only thing that it seems Stuey’s done is be stupid enough to get busted, but I wouldn’t think any player(s) that’ll testify against will be in an easy ride in the league.

How byrne ever got the captains armband is beyond me.Its been clear for a while that he hasnt given a sh!t about playing for drogs so why still give him the armband??Bad decision by Doolin to give it to him but good decision in suspending him
i wouldnt be too shocked by players actions in this league. ive said it to a few people that alot of the players in the league have a serious complex about playing in the loi. many of themk are bitter about where they are and that they never "made it" (ie in england) and as a result carry on like theyre bigger than clubs and the fans resulting in incidents like this and constantly inciting fans
I don't understand the vitriol & venom in this thread. S.Byrne is accused of something that hasn't been yet proved. No one here knows 100% of either side of the story (sounds like most of us know less than 10% of any of it). The player has continued to play fairly well - not too good in the right-back position, but still looking brilliant when he gets back into the midfield imo. Yet suddenly the vast majority of messages here are highly abusive toward him.
I've always rated him as one of the best ever midfielders in the league; perhaps when this investigation is over I may have to change my opinion somewhat, but allegations don't mean anything on their own.
I have to say I am in the same camp on this one. For me it seems very strange that when a player has any form of run in with Doolin that all of a sudden that player (according to the club) creates some situation which merits his exit, the lists is now becoming farcial;
Quinnless, Bradley, Leech, Bird, Scully, Grey, Fahy, Gavin, now Byrne. (prob. forgetting one or two from this list)
Always the players fault (supposedly). Now maybe Byrne is guilty but I will wait for the true story (rather than the club spin) to emerge ebfore judgement.
Fair enough, but saying that Byrne was playing "fairly" well is rubbish. He's played well in about 2 games this season, and the rest he's showed his lack of interest, be that at right full or midfield.
I'm not 100% sure of the details, but if his attitude on the pitch is anything to go by then I'm fairly confident that his suspension is justified.
I don't know or care much about the Stu Byrne situation but you'd generally find there is no smoke without a fire.
Maybe if this happen last season or the season before not much would of been said but if Drogs can get out of paying him for the rest of the season it could probably save them bout €5,000.
Might be true if they hadn't have fired the above amount of players jinxy. ironic that Scully was one of those turfed out given the problems most of his players have with him
Yeah and some real d*ckheads to go with that talent. With the exception of a couple, I'm not surprised the others went considering the attitudes they had.
We all know why Fahey was let go. Grey just wanted first team football, no major bust up there, Scully was always going to leave once he got the taste for management and the others didn't really cut the mustard.
So listing off players names for the sake of it, doesn't really answer the question on what was up with Byrne.
