Sunderland match - Monday

holding the game in the cross was purely done out financial reasons and we still made more than we would have if game was in colemans park as it wpold have been difficult to get everyone to pay 30euro to stand for match. There was a good crowd unfortunate it didnt sell out but it was a great night for the club the lads did us proud even if scoreline doesnt reflect it. it was thourghly enjoyable only for alan kearney been taken to hospital hopefully he is ok this morning and will be back in action soon

well done to all involved you did your club proud last night :D

Between 3,000 and 4,000 attendance.
But doesnt mean that, thats all the tickets that were sold.
Weather wasnt great(although didnt rain during game) may of put a few people off going to de X.

AROUND 3,000 punters filed into Turner's Cross last night to watch [COLOR=#306294]Roy Keane's Sunderland[/COLOR]. Approximately one of them seemed to really enjoy it.
This particular soul, who had made the journey from the north-east of [COLOR=#306294]England[/COLOR] in his red-and-white striped jersey, was so audible above the funereal atmosphere that he produced more noise than the rest of the attendance combined.

It would be reasonable to assume he had sampled some of the local brew on his way, and by the final minutes he had convinced some of his travelling colleagues to join him in song.
The fact that his lively chants about [COLOR=#306294]Niall Quinn[/COLOR]'s disco pants, [COLOR=#306294]Andy Reid[/COLOR]'s eating habits and a variety of other Sunderland themes reverberated around the ground tells you all you need to know about the seriousness of this occasion.
For [COLOR=#306294]Cobh Ramblers[/COLOR], the money accrued from the visit of the team managed by their most famous export will go some way towards securing their short-term future.
This was a favour they will appreciate, but not a thrilling occasion. The laidback nature of the affair even evident in Keane's dress sense, with the sharp suit abandoned for the more relaxed tracksuit-and-runners approach.
Following their visit to [COLOR=#306294]Ireland[/COLOR] last year for three games, the novelty about Sunderland being in town was clearly less evident.
They played [COLOR=#306294]Cork City[/COLOR] on that tour, with last night's venue heaving for that encounter.
The locals didn't flock in such numbers this time around, with the attendance well below that which turned up for the League of Ireland meeting between [COLOR=#306294]Cork[/COLOR] and [COLOR=#306294]St Patrick's Athletic[/COLOR] 24 four hours earlier.
If any further evidence was needed about where this game lay in [COLOR=#306294]Cobh[/COLOR] manager [COLOR=#306294]Stephen Henderson[/COLOR]'s priorities, it came in the form of the two substitutions he made before half-time and the further five switches at the interval. He needs everyone fit for the relegation battle they are immersed in . . .
And that was that, with Keane lapping up the applause as he left the pitch to the typically warm hometown welcome and camera flashes.
Those who got the prized snap will find that it lingers in the memory longer than the game itself. The irony, of course, is that the fan who got the most value from the action probably won't remember it this morning.''

I felt 4-0 was rough justice too although I agree with you for the penalty.

Scoreline doesn't matter. Hope you made a fortune from it. PR wise having it in Turners cross would l;ook miles vbetter on TV than St Colemans and thats important

Great night, had a ball. Anyone who went to the Luncheon will tell you how superbly it was run. If Celtic game materialises for next year start saving for the luncheon it was well worth the money. Quinny was brilliant and had some great stories. Fair dues to him and Roy for all they have done. As Quinn said Roy came over here to help the club out against all the advice from others(not Quinn).
I only gave Delaney a small bit of abuse over the reffing, just let him know how we felt, didn't go on.
Well done again to all the organisers, John Mansworth, John McCarthy, John Lawlor, Leslie, Kieran, Angela, Derek and whoever else I left out.
It was a fantastic day and night, excellently ran ond organised after a lot of hard work against all the odds.......ye know what i mean by that..:)

Great Stuff impressed me yesterday too, not only had they a full table at the luncheon but they were the biggest contributers to the auction also, so have a burger and chips next game:)

Alan Kearney was awake in the ambulance the last I heard..........according to the Echo he was released from hospital this morning after being unconcious for 7 minutes!:eek:

For those of you who are interested.........The match is being repeated on Setanta Sports 2 at 7.

It makes great watching when you see that Sunderland's first goal was offside and the commentators immediately start having a go at Ken Hennessey for making such a poor decision and then tell the watching world that he robbed us blind Saturday night and how seems to have continued his poor standards vs Sunderland.:):D.............gimp!:mad:
