No, it was a mutual termination. George wanted to go, Mathews wanted an extra few grand to sign players with, ce sera.

seems odd not to ask for even 50k for him though wouldn't you agree? Surely Tranmere would have stumped up a fee like that if they were interested, Georgie would still have left and Cork would still have his wages freed, but with a bit of pocket money for their trouble
The problem is the wage cap; the owner's wouldn't be too arsed about 50k. I think it was a case of George wanting to leave ASAP before his kid is born and Mathew's wanting to offload him before the CEO is in place to ok/veto the termination. George wasn't Mathews' signing so I'd imagine he's not too worried. There were a few veiled references to "no star in the team, everybody putting their head down and working" in interviews of Mathews at the time but it just seems to be a case of it suiting everyone to see George go. 50k wouldn't mean too much to Arkaga but they've already voiced their concern about the 65% cap.
On Tranmere's website its down as an 'undisclosed fee' while others are 'free transfers'....Maybe we got a tenner for him or something.
Possibly. Maybe the "mutual termination" story is a ruse to maintain our high value standards? Much better to say our last transfer is Roy for €700k than George for €30k. If we're rejecting €150k for Meyler though I can't see that we'd be in a rush to bite off someone's hand for a few grand.
I believe we may have a few boxes of old scouser wigs which City intend to sell as Doug Howlett wigs outside Musgrave Park. :p
