Can't wait til the ruski cheques bounch ;)
Apparently he got the money from some scheme that Yeltsin's Government set up - they took out loans with secruity given as shares in various state enterprises... The Government defaulted and the likes of this bloke cashed in... Apparently they also gave out shares to workers as part of their wages, and people like Chelski went around buying these off the poverty stricken workers for a pittance....
however questionable the means by which he came into money, there's no doubting the fact that he's willing to throw it chelsea's way. seba veron is reported to be the latest on his way to stamford bridge (14million stg), and the bid for duff will be upped to 18million stg. according to the media. if all these went through, that'd be 44million stg on four players in a week as bankroller.
Dermot Keely says when he was Duffers teacher he advised him to do his Leaving Cert, it was more important than going to England.
Bet he's glad he took Devo's advise:D

Blackburn have turned down Chelsea's latest offer for Irish winger Damien Duff. The London club made a new, improved bid to buy the player this morning but the figure on offer is still believed to be short of the £17 million that Rovers desire.
Duff is one of the most sought-after players in the Barclaycard Premiership - Liverpool tried to sign him but were put off by the fee and Manchester United have also been linked with him. This was Chelsea's third bid for the player.
I too would always emphasise the importance of education.Quote:

Look, I rarely get an opportunity to quote the Scripture, and if I want to twist the meaning I will.:)Quote:

Of my own, not on his own..... It was about white apathy at a time when the black population of England was rioting against the injustices of the time...
BTW, he should have sung "A riot of our own" not "my own"
Oh, my God, I've just criticised Joe.
How many more has Devo sent over and haven't made, who are no playing pub football with their dreams in shatters?Quote:

After four attempts, Chelsea and Blackburn have finally agreed a fee...
Now let's watch Chelsea test Duffer's resolve.
:) PP
I'm sure it will be hard.
Try to put yourself in Duffer's place. You're being offered a job with a huge starting bonus, double your current wage, a much more laid-back boss, and a team working with you who don't depend on you to do absolutely everything for them.
Try to hold him back.
....and you get to play champions league football
That Russian guy is trating real football like a game of Championship Manager.
:o
He'll bid for To Maderia next...Quote:

Northofthelee i think that you are a bit over the top with this duff thing going to a Chelsea. I am a chelsea fan and i go over a lot. As for duff i think that he could do a good job over there for chelsea and to better himself as a player because he will be around good players from around the world. Lets see what happens in a few days.
You C18/ NF hun lover..... Quick Slivio Dante sort it out!!!Quote:

Ian , I was only taking the ****.........out of the booing irish crowd...The point being that If you boo a player cause he plays for rangers then you might as well boo every player who plays in england...They are of course our number one enemy still* I have no problem with duff joining chelsea. who could refuse 70,000 a week.
*again not being serious here. just trying to get some perspective on all this booing rangers players
I agree with you on that one my friend but on this note there has been an Irish thing with chelsea for a couple of years in the season that chelsea won the leauge in 55 they had an Irish player playing with them called Dick Wittaker He used to play for St Mary's BC. Also Chelsea had Paddy Mulligan, Tony Cascarino, Andy Townsend, And Terry Phelan. I think that chelsea should have a good Irish player on the books at the club and in duff chelsea could have a good player. :ball:
I don't think Chelsea is a good move for him to be honest. I think staying at Blackburn for another year would have been the best thing for him.
I think Chelsea would be the ideal move for Duff. I'd much rather see him play at Stamford Bridge than anywhere else in England.
He will be playing Champions league football and be playing around far better players than if he were to remain at Blackburn.
I think Chelsea will win something next year and this can only be good for Duff and Ireland.
