McGeady on right and Keane upfront then.

The Czech, at home only beat them 1:0 - that's not good news for Stan, Should Cyprus get a result, and they might, I would say Stan would have to go. However another way of looking at it is to say that Cyprus at home, might well beat the Czech. Things might be closer than they appear.
If a defeat to the Cypriots means San gets the boot then I'll hope for that.
You're dreaming if you think Stan is going to get the boot, it would take an utterly humilating defeat and even then I can't see him go. Basically it's Delaney and Delaney alone who calls the shots, and this is the guy who gave Stan a 4 year contract. Stan will be around until the end of the next campaign where we will again fail to qualify.
Given
Finnan-J.O'Brien-McShane-Kilbane
McGeady-O'Shea-A.Reid-Hunt
Keane-Doyle
Dropping Keogh and Kelly from Saturday's team. Wasn't impressed with either, and Keogh can come on later if we need him, seeing as Long is not available. Keogh was only good for fifty or so minutes anyway.
Of course McGeady has been rubbish for Ireland but to say Keogh was much better is crazy. I watched the match live and I watched it again yesterday. He was guilty of everything McGeady was guilty of. I certainly wouldn't just say that to back up McGeady, whether you believe that or not.
Thats my first 11. Its the best available. I would leave McGeady on the bench to bring on. I am very worried about Wed. I sense an embarrassing defeat is on the cards. I believe we are there for the taking and we would do very well to get a 1-0 win.
Lets be honest guys, a defeat on Wed and away to the Taffy's would be the icing on the cake for the utterly miserable campaign which has seen the international setup regress about 25 years on the field.
I'd be worried if McShane and O'Brien start together at the back especially with Carsley missing.
Lads a few things, Kilbane and O Shea should never play central midfield as they dont think like Central Midfielders and dont act like them. Its the most important position on the field and you cannot play someone out of position there. Joey O Brien is a central midfielder who did a good job at centre back on Saturday but he should play beside Reid on Wednesay and Miller and Hunt should be on the wings.
O Shea and Mc Shane at centre back with Finnan and Kilbane and fullback. THat way you have as many players playing in their natural positions.
[QUOTE=nui-harp;790071]Best thing that could happen is for Ireland to get humiliated and beaten 3-0 or along those lines. Shock results are the only way that Stan is going to jump now, he's too thick to see that everyone hates him. A half full stadium would be great also and really hit the FAI where it hurts. Incidently, does anyone know how much a sniper costs? Just incase Delaney doesn't bugger off too.[/QUOTE
you dont have a clue - bloody hell
get a grip
Agreed. There is no combination of results that will get Stan sacked at this stage. Nor will he walk of his own volition as if he leaves he leaves in disgrace and will never work in football again.
If we lose or draw to Cyprus (not out of the question at all) and lose in Cardiff (quite likely) he is better off batoning down the hatches and sneaking off for a quite holiday somwhere to ride out the storm and they'll just take the phone off the hook in Merrion Square and pour themselves a stiff brandy.
Admittedly i've only watched the match once, but i thought Keogh did well on saturday, and i also think he provides a bit more of a physical presence than McGeady. He certainly put in some hard tackles in the opening part of the game. A couple of times he lost the ball and got straight back in and either won it back or made sure that the Germans couldnt advance with it, which i don't remember McGeady doing against the Slovaks or Czechs.
But, the two reasons why i'd have him ahead of McGeady in the pecking order*; a) he deserves another shot, after all McGeady was started in our last two+, so really Keogh should get the same chance; and b) i'm happier with McGeady as a sub impact player.
*this is not to say that, with Hunt back from suspension, i'd start either against Cyprus. I'm still undecided about my starting XI!
+to be fair they were tricky away games
Agreed, he was poor in the first half, but improved massively in the second half, and was beating his man more often than not. Considering the Germans eventually stuck 2 players on him when he had the ball, he still did well. At one point I was screaming for him to cross, that he wasn't going to beat his man. And of course he promptly did. Queue laughs from the lads I was at the game with at my expense ;)
