Hmmm, I think Carr is a body we can afford to be without...but who will replace him...a brick maybe???

What a reaction ! I wonder would it have been the same if it was one of the more popular Ireland players, say Richard Dunne doing the same after two minutes. You can get injured at any time, and anyone who has played at any reasonable level will be aware that these things happen, simple as that.
Unless it was some freak occurrence an injury that early normally means he already had an injury there and didn't tell anyone or he didn't warm up properly. And before you ask, yes I have played the game at a reasonable level
I really can't believe some of the responses to Carr's injury. We're not in a position to be disregarding one of the few regular starters at a Premier League team. If Finnan, or O'Shea had picked up the same injury minutes into a game, it would be panic stations all around as to who would start in defence, and the answer would hardly be Stephen Kelly or Joey O'Brien, it would be Carr.
One more injury to a defensive player and our first choice starting back 4 is gone. Our number one replacement is looking likely to miss the 2 biggest games of Stan's career thus far, and the 2 games that will most likely decide if we're going to Austria/Switzerland next year.
Disgraceful.
I think its informed by the view that if fit Carr might get in ahead of Finnan at right back. I would rather Stephen Kelly John O Shea and Steve Finnan at right back rather than Stephen Carr. As a result it is an injury at the moment that could in fact improve Irelands chances of qualifying in my view.
Carr has been rubbish for Ireland for the last few years. I think the new attitudue of the Mc Shanes, Hunt Doyle, Ireland and Long has had a good effect on the likes of Robbie Keane, John O Shea and Richard Dunne but I am not so sure about Carr.
Carr has been DISGRACEFUL for club and country since returning from that career threatening injury a few years back. I haven't seen him play in a match where he seems to be on pace with the other players on the pitch. He makes hatfulls of mistakes every match for Newcastle.
I was happy when I read it. Now Stan has one less mistake he can make. And I wouldn't be surprised if Denmark was Carr's last game in the Ireland shirt. He'll find it hard to get back into the Newcastle team if his replacement is any use at all( Big Sam looking for cover in defence). Finnan to right back!!!!!!!!!!
If that was true then I wonder why every one of the 4 managers he has been under at Newcastle can't wait until he is even match fit before starting him.Quote:

I'm with Tets on this one.
he was walked off the pitch not stretchered but it looks bad.
Carr WAS an exceptional player in his day up until the injury that forced him out of wc 2002. since then he has struggled with form and pis sed off people by throwing in the ireland towel before hitting 30 and then coming back once things started to look up a little.
I wouldnt have him first choice but he is a valuable squad player and has definitely contributed more in terms of good performances (albeit years ago ) than the likes of john o shea EVER has in his 40 odd caps.
