Daryl Murphy was the most impressive of the ex (& current) LOI players IMO.
Fully agree I thought based on the full 90mins he was a bit unlucky not to get man of the match. Potter was fairly anonymous first half, although he was outstanding in the second.
On what Murphy showed last night he should be well able for the premiership and will be a key figure in the Irish squad. Worked hard and very versatile, can play down the channels and as a target man.
A month or two ago we had to listen to you frothing at the mouth over how NI were better than the Republic, because you were fleetingly higher than us in the rankings.
Now you've slipped back down below us in the rankings - surprise, surprise, the focus has changed to "we're on a par with you". Err - no actually. You're ranked below us. End of......
Just a question, while on another Forum, The question arose on Lapiras future eligibility, ie to change to USA, was last nights match an official "A" international, because if so then surely he is tied to Ireland for life now, any thoughts?
[QUOTE=Jerry The Saint;691825]Interesting stat that 5 of the 17 players used last night are playing, or have played, for eircom League clubs. Also O'Halloran and Stokes were attached to Cobh and Shels youth sides.
O'Halloran never played Youth Level in Cobh and never had anythig to do with Ramblers he played with Springfield the other Cobh Schoolboy team, whop have ow merged to be one club: Springfield Ramblers so i suppose Rams might take some credit. :ball:
What's all the fuss about Stokes?
He stuck in a couple of goals in an average league and all of a sudden he's pulled out of competitive u-19 games for these end of season friendlies in America.
Anytime I've seen him he's been average, I know he's only 19 etc.
Doesn't deserve his place in the senior squad yet.
Ya, while i wouldn't say he's been found out at 19, it seems there was a bit too much excitement about him.
I know O'Donovan was wrong to raise the issue of not getting called up in the way he did (he is naive & cocky) but to hear Staunton say he had enough forwards but call up Gleeson & Lapira is ridiculous as every other B International was contacted.
I think overall it does not matter how well gamble does as there is little interest in these games. I would still like him to start the next game & show what he can do.
I'll not worry. Whilst we are sitting top of our group with a great chance of qualifying.
You lot are languishing behind with only a small hope.
Have your 1 placement ahead pal. I'll settle with our results:cool:
Not bad for a country that is a 3rd of the size of the Republic.
well said steve!! - oh but who am i talking to?! ;)
In my opinion, Potter and Murphy and Hunt are all qualitry players.
I think that Bruce is only an average championship player as well as Stokes, he really doesn't have the pace, but he is pretty clever.
It's encouraging to see Staunton's approach from the beginning to bringing in new young lads to the set-up. It's the right thing to be doing, and it has been evident from the beginning of his time not just the other day against Equador. The game was fantastic in terms of effort and commitment. The likes of Doyle and Hunt were unbelievable considering they could have pulled out with niggles after the season they've had. They didnt pull out though and its to their credit they gave it their all.
