:) :ball: The suggestion that GUFC are trying to rip people off just doesnt hold . When the club made the bold and brave decision to go fulltime this season,we all knew the struggle that was going to ensue both on and off the field. That struggle on the field is becoming less of a struggle.....the result in BRAY gave us a big lift!...take note BrayUnknowns... The way we have done our business in the lead up to the Sunderland game cannot be faulted. Those who bought season tickets were looked after first and rightly so. The terma of the contract signed with Sunderland have been adhered to. Bear in mind the capacity of Dalyer and well, what are people even mentioning Croker for.
The people who do most of the bitching about this and other events inevitably turn out to be those who havent got tickets or in this case those who go to Terryland so infrequently they need directions when they do go!
Tony needs funds to strengthen the squad when the window opens, we only have 18 fit players a.t.m. Nobody is going to make a quick buck out of this fixture, the surplus is going to be ploughed back into ensuring GUFC stay in the Premier where we belong. We are not recognised as the most efficiently run club in the country for nothing!!!!!

In fairness.........there's a world of difference. As Tir Oilean has pointed out Bohs capacity for BOTH fixtures is at least twice that of Terryland Park. Financially Bohs are, or should be, the envy of every other EL club, because as a result of their sale of Dalyer they are rolling in it. Figures of millions have been mentioned as part of their move out of Phibsboro. They also did very well in recent seasons with TV rights (remember Kaiserlautern in the UEFA Cup????), and I also heard they have a good cash flow arrangement going by providing pay parking in Dalyer during the week to local hospital staff (although I cannot confirm this).

Like it or not Bray Unknowns, we are scrimping for every cent we can to keep Premier League football in the West of Ireland. The costs of doing that do not come from handing out tickets for a fiver.

And the Champions League / International match comparison you made above is a weak one too in my opinion. Leaving from Galway to get to such a fixture, your match ticket is only a fraction of your total outlay (travel, food etc.). Forgive me for preferring to see my football locally.

I stress that the club is being loyal to its season ticket holders and meeting the rest of the demand in as fair a way as possible taking all the circumstances into consideration.

Sorry lads but i still don't buy that, i think Galway's pricing is outragous in this case.

Car Parking and TV Money are totally different ways of earning a club money and cannot be compared to putting your ticket prices up by 3 times what they normally are. More power to Bohs if they are using Dayler as a car park during the week, superb idea, were actually doin it in Bray ourselves.

Virtually every club is scrimping to make ends meat in the premier but it does still not make the fact that the Galway board decided to charge WELL over the odds for a friendly match. roughly 3 times the price of a normaly match day ticket.

Galway would had a much much bigger budget than Bray - Sunderland are no bigger than Wolves - Bray are playing Wolves on 18th July - Yet our prices for this game are the very same, just the same way Bohs have done.

Whats the capacity of Terryland? Dalyer is 7,500 at the moment.

The Capacity on the day of the Sunderland game will be 5000.

But Bray Unknown, if you ask any non season ticket supporter that will be going to the match, they will tell you that the price of the tickets are dirt cheap. A lot of the people I have talked to says that when they go to england they fork out unreal money for the entire trip. Now they can see a team from the premiership that they would travel to see, at home for a fraction of the price, bargain for them, money in the bank for united!!!!!

As someone else said, united could have charged €100 a head and the match would still have sold out.

ill say it again - should be playing sunderland somewhere else - bigger capacity - cash in - at a lower per head cost

play someone else in the opening of the new stand - a terry the tiger and eddy the eagle 11 would fill that place for the opening - another cash in

gufc make money - fans happy

The only other venues where this game could be played would be
Turners Cross, Tolka Park or Dalymount Park.

Anyone suggesting Pearse Stadium knows nothing about sport in Ireland.

There are no non-GAA venues within 130 miles of Galway capable of holding this game.

The Sportsground has practically no seating, and would only hold 1,000 more than Terryland anyway. The re-developed Terryland will be a far superior venue.

We would need a 10,000-15,000 capacity ground situated in the county to come anywhere near satisfying current demand. There are no viable alternatives. A long shot would be Thomond Park, but that ground is being re-developed. Anyway, the public would not react well to moving the game outside Galway.

Where would you suggest we play the game ?

in the stand - are you saying that gufc are playing sunderland for the prestiege element?!!! that they want to have this particular side to grace terryland park for the opening of the stand

dont think so its about money - full stop

other community operated grounds could be used to host GUFC - people could be packed in there - maybe not to the 15000 extent that could be sold

if this was about prestiege on the opening of the ground - this should have been done differently

if this was about fundraising - i think this should have been done differently

i know loads of work went into the organisation of this - but if was about soley profit maximisation - its not being done very well in my opinion

the sunderland/keane brigade would turn out for them anywhere - GUFC are a very small part of that

Where are you putting the official Sunderland fans (ie the English ones)? In the good seats?

We're ****in them over on the Connaught St. side :D so the stoolers should be at home with their fellow supporters. :rolleyes:

Sunderland ticket holders will be free to go anywhere they want in the groound, outside the new stand.

I don't know how many people were at the European game in Ballinderreen in 1991. I would have thought between 4,000 - 6,000.

We were lucky to have the use of this facility at the time, but sixteen years on, it would be unsuitable for holding a game of this size (Sunderland). It is an enclosed pitch with grass embankments and a small stand. A fine community facility, nonetheless.

There are no viable alternatives to Terryland Park.

Why should we move the game somewhere else. Its costing enough to stage as it is, without shelling out for rent to the GA!

Why should we shell out a five-figure sum in rent to a bunch of small-time geriatrics who would take pleasure in our demise ...

(Dunne again does all the hard work, sets up his fellow posters with a shot into a empty goal from two feet. Surely they can't miss this one !)

Ireland international games in Croker were going for €50.00, tickets to see champions league games were less than €50.00. IMO Galway's pricing of these tickets is just shocking.

Yes it is shockingly expensive.

And yes it will sell out - not so shocking!

Oh, and it's bringing a shocking six figure pile of cash to the Club.

Very impressed with the clubs technique in selling the tickets to the general public. Only being sold at games and crucially only 1 ticket per person. I had heard of people who were going to try and buy 4 or 5 tickets. Hope this will be strictly enforced.

and the fact it is a UCD game which would hardly catch the public imagination on it's own!! kudos to the club.

as a season ticket holder i don't mind shelling out €20, and i'm sure those who want to see 'premiership' teams don't mind the cost of €40 too much either. either way they will either not come back because they wouldn't come normally anyway or they will be enticed back to view the real 'premier divison' team on a forthnightly basis for a fraction of the price of the sunderland game. well done to the club on this one!!
