Seems to me there's a deal of posed indifference going on here, but I've yet to see any argument as to why it doesn't matter that the national broadcaster declines to broadcast a vital game in the national league.

If the league hadn't made such a balls of scheduling, this game would have been a weekend fixture and would more than likely have been live on TV.
It's nice that they're promoting the First Division but does anyone really think they'd prefer to show Athlone this weekend if Derry vs. Shels was on instead.
The licence fee is not meant to cover what people want to watch. People watch Celebrity Farm not Prime Time. It is meant to cover Public Service broadcasting. Hence RTE should not be using the licence fee to outbid TV3 for the Champions League to the detriment of Domestic football.
There are 7 live Romanian league games this weekend on 3 different channels. Even Cyprus has weekly live domestic football.
Even allowing for the public service broadcasting bit the ratings are actually very good when they do bother to cover games.
on a similar note - even the cl they do show is UK related only

would it kill them to show the odd non english scottish game? I mean some of the liverpool games shown have been appalling standard
