From Evening Herald;
"Almost all of the College squad are out of contract at the end of this season, and players like Darren Quigley and Gary Dicker- regulars in the Irish U21 team- as well as Alan McNally, Conor Sammon and Derek Doyle will attract interest other clubs."
I'll put the whole article up later.
Pete Mahon said in the College Tribune that some of our players are being tapped up. Not sure how that is seeming as practically all of them have freedom to discuss with other clubs. I assume under the Bosman ruling even if you're under 23 you can discuss with other clubs into the last 6 months of your contract. The hot commodities I can see at UCD would be Ally Mac (available for free), Quigley, Dicker, Kenna and maybe Sammon. The last 4 would all cost money though. Mahon said he wants to keep everyone and add in 3 experienced heads. Unfortunately all our plans will hinge on the decision date of the participants of the new league in December. We'll either be looking to build on what we've got or pick up the pieces of a decimated squad to push for promotion.
Poor Student
Don't believe for one second that we will go down to the First Division for non footballing reasons without a fight. It's not for nothing that we have several players alumni members who are in the Legal profession. They do have their uses you know. ;)
As regards the Evening Herald, it attacks the EL every chance they get. They are particularly anti-Rovers. I am hoping that these reports are as untrue as much of the other tripe they write about the League. If not, we will have to follow the advice of 1980's Scottish band Orange Juice " Rip it up and start again !"
CTID, UCD voted for it. Whether we felt threatened or not is besides the point, we voted for it and we haven't a leg to stand on. There will be no fight.
According to the so - called formulae put in place as explained quite cogently by pineapple stu, we should qualify for the Premier on the basis of those criteria.
Therefore , if we get shafted after qualifying on the supposed criteria, the fertiliser will hit the air conditioning .... big time!
And the writs will hit the fan !
