Loved him, gutted R.I.P.
I have the book he released and a whole load of his Crocodile Hunter episodes on tape. He's also my screensaver on my PC, I'm shocked that he's dead. As someone who always had an interest in wildlife, Steve Irwins passion jumped right out of the TV screen and grabbed me and obviously countless others around the globe. I was so shocked when I read the news, he's just one of these people who you can build up an air of invincibility about but at the end of the day we're all human. One of his up close and personal episodes (looking back on what was supposed to be his life so far) brought me to tears but this news has'nt, probably because it has'nt sunk in yet. I really regret now not getting to meet him that time he was in Dublin.
He was unique and I don't feel like there's anything I can say that would be a fitting send-off for the great man. My best wishes are with his wife Terri and his two young children as well as his best mate Wes.
RIP
I'm shocked by the amount of people who start sniggering when they hear that he has died. I was at Electric Picnic over the weekend when the news spread around the campsite and the amount (I'd say 95%) of people that either cheered or started laughing was incredible. As someone else on this thread has previously said, whether you loved him or hated him you couldn't deny that the man was good at doing what he loved. I remember the same sort of sniggering at Timothy Treadwells death (although on a much smaller scale due to the size of celebrity between the two) and I could never understand it. Christ we should all be so lucky to die doing something we love, although hopefully in less horrific circumstances to Treadwell obviously.
RIP Steve Irwin
The jokes are already starting an all, got a tx with one today:eek:
I got the Irwin Cream yesterday and BBC News Stingray today...
RIP. Always knew this was going to happen some day
Dominic Diamond did a horrible piece in the Star today ( I'm aware it's a rag btw) where he opens with the line "Admit it, you laughed didn't you?"
His column basically then goes along the lines of yeah it's a shame but he had it coming. He tries to say the Irwin used to go into the jungle to take the **** out of animals and crocs etc just to make money out of them.
Don't let facts get in the way Mr Diamond eh? Forget about the fact that he was a huge conservationist.
I wasn't a big fan of Steve Irwin even though I did find his shows watchable and entertaining but I feel like e-mailing the pr!ck over his shallow remarks.
It's shocking how utterly ignorant some people are. I would'nt bother with an e-mail, the f**ker would probably just laugh it off. I'm glad I've never bought that newspaper - and I don't expect that stat to change anytime soon.
I can tell you one thing for sure- Steve Irwin done more good for this earth in his 44 years than this Dominic Diamond idiot could do in a million.

There's a poll on the BBC website, asking if the footage of Steve Irwin being killed was released, would you watch it?
The yes vote is taking a comfortable lead and I have to say that I'd watch it too.
It can't be too gruesome.
In the water, a fish attacks in a split second, the barb goes through his chest, he pulls it out and falls unconscious.
Nothing nearly as bad as the Islamic fundamentalists hacking off the heads of their hostages.
What's the link? I probably would watch it. I have to admit that I watched one of those be-headings before on ogrish ( I think) and I have not been to that website since :(
Here's the link to the poll...
It seems that a low key funeral has been held for him and that his body will be buried in his family zoo.

Thats sad really, that would make Steve sick to his stomach if he were alive. There's many words you could use to describe it, stupid certainly being one of them, stupid, malicious and ignorant. You could compare it to George Bush trying to go to war with hurricane Katrina except this is much worse because its true. TBH though i'm not all that surprised, I'm not saying I've lost all faith in humanity or anything like that but I'm never surprised anymore by some people's.... (cant find the right word)..... ignorance:confused:
I'd use ironic for the story.
