If this is true then it's obvious the F.A.I. have taken the cheap option again. However, I'd give any new manager my backing until results proved otherwise and more so for Stan given the fact that he is a legend for us.
Aldridge has a good two seasons' management experience in the English Division One. He took Tranmere to the FA Cup Q/F, I think.Quote:

God help us is all i can say.Great bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve but international football manager. Not.
I'd say there's a good chance that Gary Kelly and Sean Thornton will get called up too.:DQuote:

I think if they did hire Stan it would be the easy and cheap option..I'm really not sure thats the best reason for opointing a boss. We can wait.........whats the rush?
Just heard on TV3 that bookies have suspended betting cos Staunton is going to meet the FAI in the next few days:eek:.
One message to him: FECK OFF, I DONT WANT YOU!
Anyone but him, please. I'll take Burley after all, bring back Kerr even:o
4/1 favourite on Paddy Power.
Oh fook no. I've a very bad feeling about this:(Quote:

I know there were comparisons to other players going into management but Hughes took the job because no one else wanted it. Hadnt Toshack just walked out and the whole of the Welsh outfit were in disarray.
Van Basten had taken a coaching course with the Dutch federation and then worked as assistant to the Ajax second team so hardly a newcomer.
I dont want an ex-footballing hero at the helm , I want an experienced manager who is going to kick some of these players up the arse and get them playing. I want proper formations and substitutions at the right time and not a first-time outer wondering what to do when we need a goal with time running out.
FOR GODS SAKE DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET IRELAND IN SHAPE ! DONT APPOINT A 'YES' MAN WHO WONT ROCK THE BOAT OR BLAB TO THE PRESS WHEN YOU ARE TAKING US FANS FOR AN FECKING RIDE !!

If he gets it we are F*cked. He is just an inexperienced Yes man.It just appears as if they are giving it to him as no one else better wants it.
How I wish I was Paddy Power. Staunton great player that he was is not going to get the job. Joe "hack" of the mirror thought this one up after 10 pints and now everyone is carrying the story. Keane would still be way ahead of Staunton and don't rule Roy out yet. I think the FAI are going to offer the job to Venables or Daglish.
Staunton, of all the ex players he is most interesting. He impresses as having honest ambition. He was a veteran at the age of 24, a legend by 26, no doubt he is a fast learner. He doesn't have a Dublin accent, a big plus imo. He could be the type to bring in a new era, ditch the useless dvd profiles and opposition dossiers, bring back roll call, salute the flag and boot camp. Perform or die. Add some grit to the equation. The only one who could tell Roy Keane to FO with conviction when he was a pest. Couldn't conceive of a disloyal thought for a nanosecond. Rocks would bounce of him. Staunton's green army would strike fear instead of predictability and surrender.
Might work if he had somebody by his side who had the experience and knowledge of the things he doesn't. :)
This is where I stopped reading cos it kind of made your opinion look sh!te. I'm glad your not picking the new manager;)Quote:

You appear to dismiss him entirely without this appreciation.
If there is a ready made formula for getting a successful manager for our International team I would like to know it. I can see all types of examples from around Europe with very different results.
I would pay no attention to the bookies market on this. They are more often wrong than right in when a managerial appointment is the market. Remember back to 2002 when Kerr got it. He was the medias first choice and many others yet he started at 20/1 then cut to 16/1 for weeks and weeks while other blow-ins were touted as favourites. Alredy we have had MON, Burly and Aldo and now Stan. How could you make a case for Stan over Aldo and then to put that case forward and succeed in getting the job. Pure speculation.
Kerr's point about the F.A.I. being 'short-sighted' is already evident, even before all his behind the scenes work will be not be carried on by his successor. Initially I wanted Kerr to leave too, that was after witnessing our lifeless performances at the end of the campaign but in the cold light of day it should have been clear that they could do worse than stick with him for another Euro campaign.
NOW THAT WE ARE HERE - GIVE THE JOB TO ROY KEANE.
Its laughable that the FAI dump Kerr & possibly on the brinck of employing the vastly experienced (NOT!) manager Staunton.
