Brilliant to see Georgia through, some really exciting players and style, compared to the much more established and experienced Czechs who I thought were an absolute disgrace in how they played the tournament,a bunch of hoofers and kickers just ….
The way the draw has landed I think the Austrian’s might have a serious chance of making the final, maybe even Switzerland, the 3 ‘big’ teams on that side of the draw,England,Italy and the Netherlands have looked distinctly unimpressive so far….
Thought it was hard not to have some sympathy for the Czechs yesterday in fairness - that red card looked particularly harsh, and then you have the keeper having to get up to try save a rebound, having dislocated his shoulder on the original save.
Strange studio discussion on it after - the suggestion that he should have stayed down injured and tried to get the goal ruled out, even with reference to VAR. I can't see how that would have worked at all.
Yeah that didn't make sense.
What upset has the best chance of happening next round now? ?
I'd say Turkey, Denmark, Belgium, and the Swiss are the tightest to their opponents of the lower seeds. Belgium don't look great, but might up their game for France. Austria have played well, so maybe not Turkey. I'm inclined to shout for Denmark. They made England look ordinary, and Germany aren't even as good as England.
And the Swiss win!
That was a pathetic effort from Italy, the Swiss were worthy winners….
Yep - Italy have fallen a long way since the world-record breaking side that won the last Euros.
And England get the run of the green in the draw again - if they beat Slovakia (which, usual qualms over form aside, they should), they now face the serially mundane Switzerland (that was actually their first normal time knock-out win since 1934) rather than the reigning champions.
I may be being harsh on the Swiss, but they've a tendency to play tight and hope for penalties (which they tend to lose). England under Southgate can do the same thing. That could be a dreadful game of ball.
Don't know that I've ever seen a match at a major tournament suspended due to adverse weather conditions before.
Was there one suspended at Euro 2016? Have vague notions of a huge hailstorm - Ukraine v the North maybe? - that caused play to be stopped for a short bit. Or maybe it only looked like it should have been stopped.
Slightly surprised to see it happen for lightning in such a large ground - is it really that dangerous to be on the pitch? Would there not be lightning conductors built into the stadium roof? Remember being at a Europa League game in Andorra that was abandoned when lightning hit the floodlights - but that was an LoI First Division standard ground, so entirely reasonable that everyone on the pitch just ran for the dressing room immediately!
Edit - I was right actually. A great memory for useless crap... :o
There was hail in Dortmund too of course.

Happened at Euro 2012 aswell….
England stink but some of these tackles from the Slovies are outrageous
Yuck!
Did Ronnie Whelan really call England "we" ?
Really enjoyed Austria against Turkey,Turkey feel like the joker in the tournament now and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them get past the Netherlands now either….
All the quarter finals feel very hard to call, they should all be enjoyable games in their own right though ….
Once again, Southgate has a really lovely draw. Not that he can be certain of making the final - the Dutch should be a tough match if that comes to pass - but England have a slightly better chance of making the final than anyone in the other half of the draw.
And I thought it was Slovakia who had the really lovely draw and must be wondering (with regrets aplenty) just how did that game fly by them in a matter of a minute each side of full time.
Sometimes you have to wonder if either side wants to be there or would rather be enjoying summer vacation
