I remember a very similar sitution to this back in August 2001. The mighty Holland waltzed in to White Hart Lane and thumped England 4-0. 3 weeks later England blitzed Germany 5-1 in Munich and I'm sure i don't need to remind the fate that befell the dutch that very same day.
Wednesday result means jack sh*t as far as things go. I fully expect England & their excellent well behaved england travel club (witnessed in Japan in 2002) to be playing in Germany in 2006.
I personally can't be two faced about players whom I watch on the regular basis and enjoy their skill.
As for the english media, I feel it's no worse than the tripe being spat about our team when we win meaningless friendlies or a certain once world class player does a disappearing act. Has anyone ever picked up a copy of a evening herald (Paul hyland is a particular 'expert' i enjoy! )
If i hear 'we wouldn't have lost if Roy was playing' one more time I think I
might just end up in Mountjoy.
If we ever win a world cup, I'm positive we'll never shut up about it either - I can't wait for that day. :)

I saw the game on TV in the pub of South Belfast's Northern Ireland Supportersclub (they were really happy - they hate the English team just as much as the people in the Republic :D )
What stroke me is the goalkeeper... I honestly cannot believe a big country like England with a top-of-the-bill league needs to select David James... How long is Eriksson gonna let him play before he learns his lesson?? I still have to see the first game in which David James wins a game for his team, while he cost his teams (Man City / England) already many points (remember what happened in Austria? :p )
I mean, it is very hard to believe that a big country like England has no better goalkeeper than David James. I cannot believe that. I watch Premiership sometimes as well, and I don't understand why for example Nigel Martyn doesn't get selected. Better a 39 year old who stops the ball than a fumbling David James, except Eriksson doesn't see that?!

PS: as an Aston Villa fan I'm quite pleased with Sorensen's performance in the Danish goal.
