Do you honestly believe the legacy of English rule has nothing to do with the support for the Premiership and other forms of obliteration of Irish culture? Get real palQuote:

You've just compounded the ridiculousness of your last post. This is actually one of the worst attempts at anthropology I've ever seen in my life.Quote:

The reason is simple - TV.
Crowds in Ireland were 30000-40000 before the World Cup in 66 and the European Cup of 68. Both televised live on TV and thats where the decline started.
It did not help with the mis-management of LOI clubs through the 70s and 80s and the incompetence of endless FAI officials.
The situation got worse of course for a new generation when Rupert Murdoch invented football in 1992 with the launch of Sky at the same time as the Premier League was founded.
Remember football was dead in the eighties and when re-born in England in 1992 they had the Irish Italia 90 ole olers as a ready made market.
I remember Rico saying that the LOPI teams never reacted to live UK football. When the Big Match started in the UK LOI clubs did not move the time of their kick offs & apparently crowds plummeted in early 70's.Quote:

Quality is all relative. Scottish football is rubbish relative to Spanish football but is probably quality compared to say Malta.Quote:

yea so when you have a choice of two the better one will allways win out the the prem league is miles and miles ahead of the elQuote:

The Irish were the first to fall for it....
Anto, English football was on it's knee's in the 80's - shít grounds, hooliganism, shít crowds, social outcasts. Took Italia 90 to make it cool again.
Dublin 12 - what ground were you in, as it's a long time since that's been a problem, unless it was the Connaught Street side of Dayler? And besides, obviously never bothered you in the rubbish grounds pre Taylor report in England...
In England. Crowds were down, clubs going bankrupt, stadiums in bits, little tv or sponsor money. Economy is sh1te, inner city riots.Quote:

Regarding changing kick off times and why should we.
We did change kick off times. The FAI wanted the govt to block Sky's signal. Sky paid alot of money to the FAI to allow clubs install floodlights so they could switch to Friday nights.
english teams were the best in europe in the early 80's untill liverpool got everyone banned . the economy in england may have been sh1t which is going to have a bad affect on every thing that has to be paid for i n the country , but to say it was on its knees is a bit much , i travelled all around england watching games and very rarely was there any even half empty stadium . attendences dropping from 40 k to 30 k is bad but the game was nt on its knees .
the stadiums them selves may have been in a poor state but everything in the 80's was rubbish ,
itailia 90 made it cool again do ye not remember mexico 86 !!! or all the europeen cup finals with english clubs in the 80's
I don't know what ground you been to recently but facilities for the top clubs have changed a lot.Quote:

irish stadiums in all sports are sh!te. Best eL grounds are no worse than similar size rugby or GAA grounds.
Ok I will be specific - 1985 to 1992.Quote:

Italia 90 has gone down in history as the WORST World Cup EVER and initiated alot of rule changes - back pass, offiside etc.
If the game was not on its kness then WHY oh WHY did the FA step in and re-structure the game ?
Thatcher wanted England to pull out of Euro88 and Italia90
I was at UCD,Tolka and Dayler,in fairness though they have improved slightly but not an awful lot,Cork looks a tidy little ground from what I've seen on the TV.I am trying my best to go back and following the league,it's hard though when some of the quality of football is on a par with some good Sunday league clubs.I might pop along to Bohs/Rovers this friday though, always a bit lively at that one :D
and you needed "a pair of overalls to protect your clothes"?Quote:

Schumi..yeah correct and a pair of ear plugs as the singing was deafening :D
At Everton? One of the top teams - not really a true bench mark on the whole league.Quote:
