I deleted something I put on here last night, mainly as I cant link to it/prove it and didn't want to cause trouble for myself, this site, the club and am in no way shape or form ITK on Limerick FC or claiming to be. But I heard some weeks back (with three league games still to play) that Scully would be gone next season regardless of the seasons outcome, and that the home defeat to Waterford was the tipping point.

I was also told in the same conversation the name of his likely replacement, at least at that point, which was my main reason for removing the post. I didn't really pay much mind to it, as as much as I don't rate Scully as the man to kick the club on, mainly due to the home form (which in the Prem will be vital I feel), I reckoned if he got us up he would have earned his chance to fail next season.

Now, having read this on here, I am beginning to wonder if was worth a little tickle. Still unlikely I reckon, but this post made me re think it, and how unlikely others on here wouldn't know if there were anything in it.

I do think Scully would keep us up for what it's worth and I think that would make him a comparative success in the short term at least. I'm not sure how much further he'd take us and wouldn't be convinced he'll be a roaring success in the longer term but I do believe that he has earned a chance at that purely on the basis that he's won the first division. Ultimately he's had a successful season this year and as a result I'd like to see him given an opportunity to try and show that he can carry the club forward. I'll be disappointed in the club if they toss him to the side now, just as I was when Mike Kerley was shafted the first time he left the club, I'll still support them as I do now but I do think, personally, that it would show a lack of character of behalf of those making the decisions at the club. Wouldn't be the end of the world but I'd still prefer not to see it happen.

There is two ways he could look at it, Scully leaves now and will be remembered as a success and the manager that got us back to the Premier after nearly 19 years or he continues on for another season with the possibility of struggling and leaving on a poorer vibe.

He may not even want to continue managing us commuting down either. He has done his job that he set out to do, get us promoted over a 4 year period so maybe he will be happy to walk away having done that.

Weird thought, but are there any clubs out there that might be interested in Scully?

Incidentally, if he was to go, whether that's mutually or one side walking/pushing, how does that leave the structures he has in place? I mean, going by the website, there's an assistant manager, a coaching assistant, a goalkeeping coach, a performance coach, a sports scientist a physio and a scout, presumably the club wouldn't sack 7 other people would they? And like I said, manager X could come in and want a whole new team, which would be a shame in my eyes. Maybe if Buckley got it, he would want to bring Sean O'Connor with him ;)

Actually good that a shamrock fan posted here as I came in to give my two cents which is that we're in quite a similar place to the one shamrock were in when they had Scully and he served a purpose.

Is he Jose Mourinho? No. But he's a safeish pair of hands while we stabalise.

We talk about the premier like it's amassive thing but there's a fair share of rubbish up there as well. With the three or four new faces we're bound to get we should be ok. And if we're not we can always look at it in June.

Scully has the experience in the premier division and i think he has set a foundation, there is some week sides in the premier so i do expect us to hit the ground running next year,the style might not have suited people but we are still progressing.

There are very few sides up there weaker then the likes of Waterford and look how we did there also i dont mind hoofing the ball if it works but that fact is with the players we have we would be far better actually playing a bit.

Even the likes of bray and UCD are stronger than Longford and Waterford so every game will be tough. Any mistakes in our tactics etc... Will be exposed much easier than in the first.

We scrapped a lot of wins this season due to the lack of quality from the opposition, we won't get away with that in the premier.

Scully does not seem to be up to it at all tactically going on our big game record.

If we try play the same way in the premier we will really struggle. If Scully changes the way he has us playing we will more than hold our own.

I actually think tactically he'll be fine in the premier. It looks like at times this year, he's been guilty of over thinking tactics, but you could win the first division with 11 grafters. The reason I think we struggled at times is because we didn't have enough of them. But the 3 occasions we've played premier teams this year, its been much better football. Bradley and O'Leary are a lot more suited to it and with a bit more space to play in, I think it could be a really good season.

We did do well in 3 games against prem teams but people always leave out the fact we were tore apart by Rovers when we had our full team out.

True, but we also played 2 games in the 3 days before that. Id have much rather we stuck the 19s out against City and try beat Rovers then. I'd say that was in part down to bad timing of the City game. The lads were dead on their feet after 50 minutes in the Rovers game.

I had forgotten about that actually... If we could get the same level of performance from the other games against Prem teams next season we will more then hold our own. Played some lovely football in Tallaght the first time and in Bray too.

I still feel maybe even team selection wise he needs to vastly improve. There were games that had change for the sake of change. Personally i'd give him a chance up there. My only worry is after a few months if it isn't working out we have a new manager come in with players he doesn't necessarily want.

I'm really confused about the whole Scully thing now in one way i see the point sadloserkid is making about sticking with him because he got us up but from talking to a few people it appears an awful lot of players in the premier dont like him at all is it worth keeping him when his history of falling out with players could cost us?
