English team arrive to greetings from Irish supporters

I'm seeing both sides here, when I first heard it and saw it I thought it was a bit pathetic, why would you go to greet another Countries team bus? I wouldn't go to see England, and the English wouldn't go to see Ireland. I sometimes think (some)Irish people - mainly who watch the PL - have more of a concern for watching England or berating England than supporting Ireland. Its a pseudo-hate relationship, but helps fulfil their obsession.

I think it was harmless enough to be honest, a bit silly ,but what concerns me is something bigger happening over there. For someone who goes to a fair few away games, the bigger matches always attract a few fools, those few fools will be multiplied exponentially given the size of the travelling support this time. I really hope everyone behaves themselves and has a good time and are loved by the locals. BUt i have a fear if its anything like Paris away last time there could be trouble at some game.

Agreed about the latter point. That and the no.of people who've never done a tournament before.

everyone has to have their first tournament.

but i would agree that I would also have concerns about some of the fools that will be on this trip. lots of big gangs of lads getting absolutely buckled and annoying the locals. what i loved about wc 2002 was that it wasnt really attractive for p**s head event junkies to take in this trip. every Irish fan I met on that trip was just loving the tournament experience. Fast forward to recent trips I have been on and some of the behaviour while not violent has been a complete embarrassment

I'm afraid there might be some idiocy but not necessarily trouble.

Worst thing I ever saw was in Germany when a few Irish fans started singing the rugby song -Ireland's call - shudder! (imagine a few english fans singing sweet chariot song)
And some here are complaining about fans singing the national anthem, Im just surprised they know the words.

Maybe a bit of harmless fun, but, its not good press and i'm pretty sure the English press won't like it. he he.

well, ive seen broken windows, a ticket kiosk destroyed, lads urinating on trains, lads standing on car roofs with kids inside etc. Not violent but not exactly enjoyable for the locals either

Yeah, tell that to the lad in an Ireland shirt who gets his brains bashed in because some English supporter takes offense to this behaviour. What first class morons those Irish lads are! Indeed if UEFA have pledged to stamp out hooliganism, this is the first instance of it at the finals. I'd love to see all those Irish fans locked up for the duration of the finals, just for being such idiots.

Conversely I remember being in the company of a biggish group of English fans for a recent Irish international (on TV). They were all very complementary and wished us the best. Bridges were built that day, and then you have these morons.

It's some lads having a bit of fun, no harm done at all. Some people are ridiculously sensitive. I'm sure they enjoyed it. It might not be my cup of tea but it's hardly anything worse than you'd see the world over around football. Some of our fans had great fun keeping european opponents awake in their hotel a few years ago. Hooligans I guess.

If some english guy kicks someone's head in, it'l be because he's a scumbag looking for violence, not because some lads same some harmless songs. There weren't even any 'party tunes' ffs.

I agree with ya Mark12345, If there was a bunch of English fans that turned up to our teams hotel and started chanting abuse and singing god save the queen, we'd be up in arms over it. This is the kinda thing that starts off riots. If the English fans that were at the hotel at the time took offence who know what could of happened. One thing is for sure is that they "the irish fans" probably run like girls. Them lads had one thing in mind when they went to "greet" the England team at their hotel and it was to abuse them. Idiots

It was just a bit of fun and you can bet you bottom dollar that if any incidents do occur they will be started by the English no the Irish, the English
fans have a proven track record of thuggery home and abroad.

If I was there I certainly would not have been joining in.
But in fairness, the songs weren't abusive (unless you're John Terry)
Nobody sang the Sinn Fein/IRA bit in 'Fields of Athenry' thank God, that would have been really embarrassing.

So if there were English fans singing at the Irish team bus I wouldn't care.
If they were singing anti-Hunger striker songs or 'No Surrender' etc. I would be annoyed.

Also, as an aside, when English fans act like this, people's back are up because they sense danger due to their hooligan past. When the Irish fans act like this it's because we're drunk and 'having the craic'. I don't agree with it and think there's a serious moronic (brain-dead) element in the Irish Soccer supporter crowd, but it's a storm in a tea-cup. Nobody will remember this in a week.

To summarise, the people in the video are gob****es, but fairly harmless ones nonetheless. Move on

Look at what happened and how it's going to be perceived.

A bunch of Irish showed up at the England team's arrival reception and started shouting: "you'll never beat the Irish" and also called John Terry a racist. First of all they went out of their way to show up at an event which had nothing to do with Ireland and therefore it will be perceived that these clown were looking to start trouble. And that is exactly what they were doing.

English people, anywhere they may be, can only feel slighted by that sort of behaviour - given that it was unprovoked - and who the hell can blame them? And that could very easily translate into a hiding for some innocent Irish person during the tournament if the Irish / English paths should cross. I mean it's simple logic.

As JByrne says. How would we feel if a group of English fans did the same?

If you can't see that logic my friend, well.........................

Ya and most of them will go back to worshiping them in a months time ...
