Spot on. Can't blame Scully for this one. Made the right subs I thought. Gaffney and O'Brien played well but were very wasteful with their final ball. Paddy and McGann missed sitters, both free headers. Hit the bar twice with great efforts. Disappointed with Gamble and Bradley in CM, they didn't step up when needed, especially after we went 1 down. Instead we resorted to hoof ball from Barry Ryan. Second half performance was much better but we got caught on the break twice. Improvement needed all round really but it will come.Quote:

WE have no pace in the centre half position the young lad that came on for them gave us the run around with his pace the 2nd goal Limerick conceded was shocking he ran straight through or two centre halfs he even had time to go around the keeper.
O'Brien was a class above tonight and was the only player who was really dangerous for us tonight. He ripped them apart at will, was doing his job perfectly if you ask me, beating his man, getting crosses and running at their defence. Couldn't ask for more.
Bhandarkar is really struggling and only looks comfortable when going forward. Have been saying for ages all we needed to sign was a left full and we where sorted and I stand by that. Give Shane Tracey a go back there at least.
C.Tracey was poor enough and did nothing to displace Shaun Kelly.
Bradley wasn't up to too much but didn't think he looked disinterested either.
Gaffney always seems a yard off the pace and gets dispossessed a lot. When he gets in good positions he can do well.
Purcell and Guthrie while not the quickest weren't in too much trouble until we really pushed forward and exposed ourselves at the back.
Gamble got stuck in as usual but delayed too much on the ball and got dispossessed a lot.
Behan and Quinn where very poor but in saying that we where continuously just hoofing the ball forward and dempsey in front of the back 4 meant Quinn was non existent.
MCGann did well when he came on.
Foley was much the same as Behan.
Gary Sheehan ran about but didn't get the chance to get too involved bar hitting a cracker off the crossbar.
Only thing i can add to what has been said already is Bhandarkhar and Corie were terrible but who was the only person on the bench that could replace him that man again the worst player at the club Alex Scully. This is turning into an absolute disgrace Anto O Donnell has been brilliant for the u19s and has even gotten trials in England recently and he is left out for the managers son. Someone at the club needs to have a word its gone beyond a joke.
Was Sean Kelly hurt?
I was saying it last night that for now I'd give pat the benefit of the doubt and say that he isn't playing any other u19 cause they are too important at the moment for the last few games. If he keeps it up when the u19 season is over then something will need to be done about it.Quote:

Dont get why O'Leary wasn't brought on instead of McGann either having more experience O'Leary made have made more of a difference imo.

Still shocked after that performance. Okay game but way too many individual poor performances to deserve anything from the game. Gaffney was shocking, can't remember Gamble picking out his own player with a pass, despite scoring I thought Guthrie was very poor, couldn't deal with Waterford's pace when they counter attacked. Don't understand why O' Leary didn't come on when Bradley went off, really could have done with his creativity in midfield. Instead we decided to completely by-pass the midfield with long balls aimed at their full backs, trying to get long throws for Gaffney.
On the game itself, thought Waterford started very catiously (for obvious reasons) but Limerick didn't captilise on this at all. Very slow build up play in the first 20 minutes and Waterford hit us with a counter attack for their goal. Seemed to completly rattle Limerick and we were all over the place after that.
Played a bit of ball in the second half and Waterford had 11 players behind the ball for ages, as far as I can remember, their 2nd goal was their first shot on goal in the 2nd half. After we equalised, we started going back to the long balls and they just hit us on the break. Thought Derek O' Brien was the only Limerick player that had a good game.
Sounds to me like Waterford have hit on a very simple blueprint for beating Limerick.
Go 4-1-4-1, with an anchorman to nullify Quinn, and prevent Limerick from playing short triangles.
Play deep, soak up pressure, frustrate Limerick's attempts to play football and play a quick lad up front who can take advantage of the lack of pace in our defence.

Against teams who set up like this, there is little point in the short passing 4-2-3-1, as we'll just end up going long to no avail. A more direct 4-4-2/4-2-4 with a poacher type to partner Behan would be preferable in these circumstances.

Need to just put that down to a lesson hopefully learned. Waterford were never as bad as their recent results suggested. Long, Dempsey, Kiely is a pretty strong spine of a team.

The only sub I had a problem with was Gaffney not coming off for the simple reason I thought it could have been a straight swap with Gaffney and let Gary run at their full back. As you say the ball was just being pumped in at that stage so having Behan off didn't help even though he had been poor anyway.
