West Awake was saying that West Utd were on their way back to form after being relegated last year and he reckoned they would give the Shield a rattle this year as there was a mix up and the never got entered to the Connacht Cup. West were top of div 1 in Galway and Loughrea were top of div 3 in Galway, West were at home I thought it was a bit of a shock that they lost. It seems that West were not at full strength, but that is not Loughreas problem.

I was not aware of west utd not in the main competition, however have learned the mix up appears to be with the club and the Galway league, regards A/b TEAM entry.
I do think the shield is a sham, because clubs can abuse this one, by fielding a weaken side in the main competition.
I presume a lot of games are touch and go for the weekend.
Conn Rangers 0-6 Athenry, deserved win.at half time 3 nil up with 2 own goals and a soft penalty. also in this half rangers hit the crossbar,post and the keeper pulled off a few great saves. "nd half different story conn died and athenry ran in 3 goals. If teams met midway through mayo season and conn at full strength would have been a tight game.but no excuses deserved winners
