Two of the Carpets are from Oldham afaik, including Clint Boon hence the Oldham Band thing. Rest are Mancs.
The Charlatans - Burgess was born in Manch, grew up in Northwich (Manc overspill). Rob Collins is from Manchester. The rest are from North Midlands, previously in various mod bands.
Brown and Squire were from Timperley, which is close enough to Altrincham, so that's where that might have come from.

Frank Sidebottom, now your talking real music; particularly fond of his cover of 'I should be so lucky'.. was always dragged out for Match of the Day when Altringham were in the Third round of the FA Cup. Also he was on 'Hit the North' with Mark and Lard when they started on Radio 5. Fcuking hilarious.

He was banned from Alty, as he was bad luck (must have kept going, minus head considering where they're languishing around now). Only a glory hunter anyway, ditching Timperley Big Shorts every time Alty had a cup run. Used to go a few Altrincham games (and also a few Bury games), some great games in the early rounds of the Cup - Clive Freeman against Chester* (when they were still a league team) won Goal of the Month. Sad to see their demise when the likes of Macc went on to the league (Alty were always the better club!).Quote:
