Man City are out anyway - beat Kiev 1-0, but lost 2-1 on aggregate. The other two are both losing 1-0 on aggregate coming up to half-time - Liverpool 0-0 at home against Braga tonight; Rangers 1-0 down to PSV.
All Brits out. Will the Russian Club Barstoolers come out in force now?
I have a ticket for the final and i'm delighted those 3 teams are out. It should be a hooligan free final.
Yup; hooliganism is a uniquely British phenomenon.
Whoever gets through, they will have fans here without tickets. But the Gardai are the happiest tonight, following the elimination of Rangers.
Good to see the back of three teams who play awful brands of football anyway.
Rangers are the most defensively minded side around when it comes to European competition, I suppose it works for them to a point.
Manchester City are just awful. The Setanta comentator said something like "they've gone out on the night, but to be fair Roberto Mancini couldn't have asked for any more from his side". He must have seen a lot that I didn't anyway. Over 200m spent and they had a couple of half chances and one pretty flukey goal against a poor enough side in a second rate competition. I really hope (and think) Spurs will take their Champions League spot off them again this season.
Liverpool, in fairness, tried to play some kind of football, and will probably do so in the long run under Dalglish. They just weren't really capable last night without Gerrard and, in particular, Saurez.
Its usually domestic based only as there hasn't been too many incidents involving them away from Russia.
Quarter Final Draw (7 / 14 April)
Benfica v PSV Eindhoven
Braga v Dynamo Kiev
FC Porto v Spartak Moscow
Villarreal v FC Twente
Semi Final Draw (28 April / 5 May)
FC Porto/Spartak Moscow v Villarreal/FC Twente
SC Braga/Dynamo Kiev v Benfica/PSV
Thanks for posting the draw.
Porto v Benfica would be tasty.
Could be an all Portuguese, all Dutch or all USSR final.
FC Porto 5-1 Villarreal
Benfica 2-1 Braga
Pretty much certain to be an all Portuguese final now. Hopefully Benfica can hold on to their slender advantage as, and no disrespect intended, I would prefer to see two European heavyweights at the Aviva. That said, would Braga making the final make it pretty easy to get tickets?
Appartently Villarreal were the better side until Porto scored their first early in the second half. Actually, similarly to the first leg against Spartak, Villarreal had a fantastic chance to make it 2-0 just before Porto's equaliser.
Been a while since Benfica have been a Europan giant but certainly most people would know them.
Hopefully Braga come over and visit the Pats shop to stock up on jersies
SF semi final second legs at half time
Braga 1 -Benfica 0 Braga ahead on away goals
villareal1 porto 1- .2-6 on agg
Braga through... Hope they win now, gotta support the underdog!!
