Just had a look in the Caribbean region. There's Mark Drinan of Roosevelt in Puerto Rico, a midfielder.
And in South America, former Galway United Brazilian Alfred Neto is playing as a striker for Guacano.

Yeah, Rocco (John Reilly) was with us and Longford; I don't think he'd mind me saying he's not exactly international class! He'll enjoy being mentioned on this thread though. Aidan O'Keeffe too; had a good spell at Bohs I think (starting the week before he was due to join us on lona; scored a hat-trick and Bohs said they'd hang on to him, thanks very much).

In any event, I'd say the players being scouted here would be those who aren't Irish-born (as I'd say most of them are), but who are maybe 2G Irish and so won't show up on the likes of FIFA or FM.

There will be many more of Irish parentage who become eligible. Donovan, Dempsey had connections.

I'm all for playing friendlies here and even having a camp, but playing in the MLS is not good enough to play for Ireland and believe me when I say the vast majority of US-born players who qualify probably think Ireland is still owned by Britain and would not add anything to the team. Holding a camp for LoI players would be far more productive.

This is not just for the Irish diaspora here, same goes for Polish, German, etc., etc., etc.

Unlike Worm, I watch a lot of footie in the US, both MLS and the national team. So without this falling into another "MLS is crap. No it's not thread", I will comment on my view point on potential Irish players from the US: There are none. Any half decent player with an Irish background has been capped already by the US and the rest aren't up to scratch unless if there are some in US colleges that I don't know about. Ciaran O'Brien hardly ever plays for Colorado while Danny Earls is from, guess now lads???? Dublin.

I think that a training camp in ireland would be much more beneficial for a number of reasons. It appears the main idea for going to america is to search for players, but as mentioned above, any half decent players would have been capped by the US at this stage. If the fai were to engage in a camp in ireland, perhaps taking in a few parts of country, it could be a massive pr success. If it was to co-incide with the mid season break, friendlies could be arranged against cash strapped clubs who are short of gate receipts, or even inter-provincial representative sides. A younger squad could get great experience from these games and it would be some recognition for our home based players who could be put in a shop window by such games. Another add on bonus would be the money spent on a trip to america for a squad could be spent in this country and give the tourist / hotel business a much needed shot in the arm

They tried this last year - a number of days training in Tipperary then playing Australia in Limerick. Unfortunately many of the people complaining about how all the games are played in Dublin couldn't be bothered to go to Thomond Park. The crowd at the South Africa match a month later wasn't much better.

The cost of tickets involved played a big part in it too
