Yeah, sorry, I meant to write "to come out of the LOI this past year". Obviously I'm well aware of Doyle, Long, Meyler, Ward, etc.

Faheys gone nearly 2 years. Deegans done well for Coventry too.

I find your original post pretty ignorant but im sure thats the reaction you were looking for. Why Dublin United or Dublin Celtic by the way? Why not Bohs/Rovers/Pats/Shels?

Nothing against any of the clubs in Dublin like the ones you mention but I doubt any of them would ever muster the resources necessary to compete in Europe at a serious level. The only way we'll see serious interest in domestic football in Ireland is if there is one big club, based in Dublin and playing out of Aviva, in the English Premier League or in a European Super League, which is less than ten years away if you believe one Arsene Wenger.

Dunno about that. There are plenty of leagues around Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Norway) of similar size to us that punch above their weight in Europe. An all-Ireland league would certainly be helpful but any notions of joining the English league are a bit mad.

stuff of nightmares...

id rather a real team with real history like Bohs competing at the highest level they can attain (whatever that may be) ahead of some Oireland Franchise FC crap.

Well I'll just come out and say it then, and take the possible infraction points. Nobody grows up wanting to play in the LOI, they play in it only after they don't make the cut over in England. I grew up in Ireland and never once went to a LOI match, neither did any of my childhood chums EVER even mention the league or anything related to it. Every year when I go home I ask around about it and get weird looks - the interest simply isn't there an likely never will be.

Good luck supporting your own domestic league, nothing wrong with it, but don't be attacking me for not knowing the name of the current sponsors when I live halfway around the world and have no interest in watching it. Why would I support the LOI? The standard of football is roughly equivalent to watching the MLS, which is terrible. Why watch Bohs vs. Shamrock Rovers when I could just turn on Inter vs. Bayern instead on the next channel?

Just looking at the Irish in the Premiership at the moment, the people who don't qualify as homegrown or U21 are (and correct me if I'm wrong):

Jay O'Shea
Seamus Coleman
Daryl Murphy
Stephen Ward
Kevin Doyle.
James McCarthy(next season 11/12)

Ok, Doyle is safe. You would have to think Coleman too (4 year contract).
Daryl Murphy will likely be in the Championship regardless.
Stephen Ward is probably safe too because of the general small size of Wolves squad and most of them are homegrown anyway. Ditto Jay O'Shea.
The 25 man squad limit is the most worrysome thing to me, particularly for O'Shea. If your not named, you can't play until the January transfer window, so your best option is to go out on loan.
The obvious trend from the above list is, premiership clubs will be less likely to take a punt on a LOI player who hasn't spent 3 years in English(or Welsh) youth structure.

The U21s who may benifit as they can supplement squads are:

Aston Villa
James Collins U21

Blackburn
Gavin Gunning U21
Aaron Doran U21

Bolton
Mark Connolly U21

Chelsea
Connor Clifford U21

Players outside the Premier League who's transfer opportunities maybe limited are (to name a few:

Does the Welsh part apply only to the clubs in the English leagues or all Welsh sides? Probably a moot point anyway but still.

It looks like McCarthy will miss out on qualifying as homegrown by a couple of months, which is unfortunate, but it seems like he's good enough that it won't become a problem.

Jay O'Shea could well be squeezed out by the limited squad size as Birmingham's squad is quite old but he may well have been spending next season out on loan anyway.

I actually agree with him. It'll be great cheering on Dublin Celtic in the champions league and North Atlantic in the world cup!

What? No. Thats just a list I made from Tets website. Conor doesn't have to be named in a squad because he is U21.
Most of those players should be named in 25 man squads today, excluding the U21s. Jay O'Shea, Joey O'Brien, maybe Dean Kiely should be worried.

Actually Billy Clarke the only one not to make the cut. Hardly suprising since he's likely to be out for the season.
