Shelbourne -V- Monaghan United
Great result for Shels last night with top side UCD being beaten at home.
This is a great fixture for the Reds to capitalise albeit against an in-form
Mon U side. The away side have picked up 13 points from the possible 15.
However, those wins have come against the lowly sides of this division. Mon
U have faced each of the top 4 sides so far this season and it doesn't look
good for them. 4 defeats and not 1 goal scored for their troubles. Also,
before Monaghan started their good run of form they were trounced 6-0 by
Waterford. Shels don't do hammerings and we haven't got out of second gear
yet this season but we should still see off the Mons tonight. The price is
nothing great, doesn't represent value but it's concrete and Shels will be
gunning for the 3 points and a clean sheet. Also, a bet worth considering
with Bet 365 is in the "Highest Scoring Half" market. To date, Shels have
scored 16 goals in the league - 12 of them coming in the second half. The
second half to have most goals @ evens may be worth a small wager. Shels to win 2-0 with Madden grabbing a brace.
Backing:
Shels to win @ 1.61 (Betfair) - 2.5pts.
Second half to have most goals @ evens (Bet365/Boyles) - 0.5pts.
I fancy Faz to score for us tonight. He's been going very close the last few games and he's due another one. Odds not great though
Shamrock Rovers -V- Drogheda United
I know I said I wasn't betting on this one earlier, but a higher price on Betfair has convinced me to go for a small wager. Despite their position, the Drogs appear to be a real team of warriors. Battling qualities alone, however, aren't enough. 9 blanks out of 13 is a brutal return in any league. Rovers are missing a couple of players, but should still have enough to win. They could yet have a say in this season's title race, and they have the added bonus of a (relative) lack of pressure.
Backing Shamrock Rovers to win @ 1.76 (Betfair) - .8pts.
Have a treble on consisting of Derry, Waterford and Rovers. Derry obviously won so just waiting on the other two which should be safe enough hopefully. Did another small treble on Town-Harps draw, Mervue-Limerick draw and Athlone to win. I don't think there's much to chose between the Town-Harps and Mervue-Limerick so the draws at 11/5 on Paddy Power looked a decent bet.
A Waterford and Rovers looks a 'safe' double tonight. Waterford are at home to Wexford and they should win tonight considering "“We have a lot of injuries going into this game, so we’re clearly the underdogs. I may have to start some of the youngsters from the U18 squad on Saturday night” Wallace stated." At first Wexford could have been worth small wage @ 8.6 but the injuries puts that aside. Waterford are the most in-form side in the country at the moment and must be oozing confidence. Rovers, also at home, against Drogheda could be tricky but the away side will find it hard to score. Drogheda have being doing ok lately but the truth is they are a poor side. Waterford and Rovers should both win tonight without conceding too.
Rovers WUFC double @ 2.61 (Betfair) - 1.5pts.
Two upsets there. Always go with your instincts kids. Was briefly thinking of backing the yuff @ 8.6. Also, putting the lump on Waterford on hold for the moment, after that defeat. If they won tonight I would have had massive bet on them away to Shels next weekend....
Neither of my trebles came in but I kind of did insurance bets by putting singles and doubles on the other teams as it were in double chance bets etc, there's probably a term for that, stupidity maybe, but all in all I've made a little bit of money over the weekend. The yoofs and drogs were good odds which covered all bets.
Careful with the old aftertiming there, Longfordian.
Rovers let me down, but at least the wager was small. They definitely should have won that game. It was lack of concentration and nothing else that was their undoing. If O'Neill is worth his salt, I'd expect a reaction on Tuesday against Dundalk.
