£200 back then was well in excess of the average weekly wage, almost double it in fact. It would probably be the equivalent today of around €900. It was an astronomical price to pay to go to a game, but worth every penny of our parents hard earned at the time. I'm sure Gary would agree.
It was a lot of money then. Even the £100 my Dad paid for me was a lot then. Absolutely fantastic memories.
For Southampton we stayed with my aunt in Reading. There was no organised trip afaik and only 6 fans in the away end. We sat in the main stand though.
I still have the programmes and tickets from the away games. I also have the posters from Madrid and Alkmaar but never kept a ticket from the home game v AZ. all the programmes bar Real Madrid away are still quite easy to get now.
