Shame how his reign as manager has tainted the overall perception of one of our most loyal and talented players. His time in charge was a disaster and one that has set us back a few years.

I understood the thinking at the time as a few recently retired international players had done well with their national teams (VB, Klins) and the team lacked passion in the previous campaign under Kerr. Bringing stan in was supposed to bring back all that, although i had felt at the time that if that was the criteria, surely aldridge would have been the better choice.

However, whats past is past and I wish the lad well, in the same way I like to see Mick doing well with Wolves.

He would have been the better choice but his family weren't good mates with the Delaney's.

Stan was too young and Robson was too old.
Why don't we slag Robson for being ineffectual, feeble and not knowing when to use the full stop.

I see Karel Brueckner now age 68 got a job straight away with the Austrians.
He started in August, his contract is for the qual campaign and /if they get to the finals.
One campaign is enough for an experienced man. That squad should have its own dynamic. They had been well prepared for the Euro cup and another experienced manager can just step in and guide it along.
If Trap is able to a good job and get us to the Finals then that's one way we could go and it doesn't have to cost a fortune, maybe even Tardelli could step up?

I've been thinking that for a while. He has more experience than most, with Inter, Egypt, and Italy U-21s. I didn't always agree with McCarthy's decisions when he was the Irish manager, but I take pleasure in seeing him do well with Wolves because he seems a decent, down-to-earth bloke who will admit to mistakes and learn from them. But Staunton never came across as a likeable character, and this added to his unpopularity with fans and media.

is this the same media that sent along a mrs piggy to an Ireland training session while he was in charge?! the media may think its all about them but i couldnt care less about their relationship with the team or the manager

What that man doesn't know about coaching...

Anyone else feel that Stan getting this licence is like a pig applying lipstick? I certainly wouldn't be happy to see him get a job at any club or country I felt some affinity for.

He's proving you right at Leeds! Absolute disastrous defence since he took over. Scoring is not the problem. Histon bet them in the FA Cup simply because there was no defender on the post from a corner.

They are losing 3-1 to MK Dons today. With NO wins in 9 games, and 5 losses in a row I think McAllister and Stan might be looking for work in the New Year.

The blame is squarely being placed on Stan's shoulders today & his defensive arrangements which are a total mess.

No decent manager will keep in on. Like Paddy says above, the defense is a pure disaster.

Leeds have confirmed Steve Staunton has left the club in the wake of Gary McAllister's departure as manager.
McAllister was axed on Sunday following a run of five successive defeats saw them drop off the pace in League One.
Staunton, who linked up with McAllister as his assistant last February, has now parted company with the Yorkshire club.
A club statement read: "Following the departure of first-team manager Gary McAllister, assistant manager Steve Staunton has parted company with the club.
"The first-team squad returned to Thorp Arch on Monday morning with Neil Thompson and Andy Beasley taking training.
"The club would like to reiterate that we hope to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible."
Leeds are hoping to name a replacement for McAllister in the next few days with Gus Poyet and Aidy Boothroyd both believed to be the leading contenders for the role.
