Birmingham City have agreed a £7 million fee with Tottenham for their Irish international striker Robbie Keane, according to reports.
After falling out of favour at Spurs over the last year, Keane is widely expected to leave White Hart Lane this month and Sky Sports understands that the striker will undergo a medical at St Andrews in the next 24 hours.
His manager, Harry Redknapp, has said on a number of occasions that he won’t stand in Keane’s way should an acceptable offer come in for him and if he wishes to leave.
Despite Birmingham being favourites to sign Keane, he is very much a man in demand with many Premier League clubs believed to be interested acquiring the striker, with Wolves, Sunderland and Newcastle all reportedly interested.
The striker is desperate to play regular first team after seeing his chances limited at White Hart Lane since returning to Spurs from Liverpool in January 2009.
Will be nice to see him back on the telly :)
I hate Spurs with a passion so glad he has left!!! Good move for Robbie and I'll transfer him in to my fantasy footie team as soon as he is fit.
Not a bad destination for an Indian summer I s'pose. Chicken counting aside...he'll get his game there.
He could feed well off Zigic there and Hleb's vision will certainly leave him with opportunities. Maybe he can develop some good chemistry with Fahey as well. Watching the first 25 minutes of Birmingham's match against Blackpool yesterday they probably had 4-5 good chances to go ahead before they did score that I'm sure Robbie would have stuck away at least one or two on his day.
Cameron Jerome will finally have somebody to teach him how to finish.
http://twitter.com/colintattum Birmingham reporter suggesting the deal is not close. I would love to see Keane joining Wolves but have a feeling Keane is hoping a team higher up the table will come in for him. Everton or Sunderland might get involved.
Doubt Sunderland is an option.. They're top heavy with forwards if you include on loan Welbeck. Don't think the fans are too keen on him after turning them down numerous times over the years too.
Yeah, Sunderland would be the same situation as Spurs. Fierce competition between Bent, Welbeck and Gyan.
Came on tonight for Spurs in the dying mins.
Reading between the lines looks like Robbie wants to go somewhere other than Birmingham. Fee agreed but in no rush to move to Brum. Hope he knows what's he doing because with the emergence/re-emergence and form of Long (and possibly Best) he should no longer be guaranteed a place in the Irish side unless he is playing first team football (and playing well).
Kenny Miller on his way to Birmingham (bid accepted)so that probably confirms Robbie is not going to Brum.
Kenny Miller must be extremely fond of club hopping. He must have ammassed a fair number of signing on fee's. Robbie has not done too bad in his career either. He may go for a swansong at Wolves which would be good if it kept Wolves up. Anyway best of luck Robbie and we would like to see you playing regularly again.
Not sure how many times Miller needs to fail at the top level before people stop buying him. If Robbie wants to sign, they'll take whether they have Miller or not.
