Double negatives dont make it easy alright
Best of luck to all in final. Every football fan wants to win trophys and I have no doubt the winners will enjoy the day. I know that any Bohs fans in SDCC stadium on May 15th 2010 had a good day and while the competition has been somewhat devalued it is always nice for fans to see their team lift a cup. :)

I like the SETANTA CUP. The Setanta cup is good. I wish all a good time at the final.
“It’s Been Wonderful” – Foster
Dundalk FC manager Ian Foster says the Setanta Sports Cup has been “a wonderful experience”, no matter how Saturday’s final against Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium (kick-off 6.15pm) ends. The Lilywhites have enjoyed an unforgettable run to the decider, with four wins and two draws from their six games, including three victories in Belfast. And for him as a manager, Foster says it has been “a fantastic learning curve”, as he looked forward to his first ever final in football.

Photo Special: Setanta Cup Visits Home
The Setanta Cup made its first trip to the ancient home-fort of Cúchulainn on Thursday afternoon.
Simon Madden, Daniel Kearns, Mark Quigley, Jason Byrne and Nathan Murphy were at Cúchulainn’s Castle, Mount Avenue for a specially-arranged photocall. As you will notice, due to superstition, the players have yet to touch the trophy.

DFCTV: Pre Setanta Cup Final Photo Shoot & Interviews
DFCTV were at our photocall at Cúchulainn’s Castle on Thursday afternoon, and afterwards they caught up with Daniel Kearns and Nathan Murphy back at Oriel Park, as the pair look forward to their first ever cup final.

The last time i drank a can in Dublin(outside the Cat and Cage pub after a Shels/DFC match) i was near put into a Garda van that was heading to Santry station, meanwhile a load of Scots rugger fans, pints in hand stood on the same road laughing at me..Quote:
No way will 2000 fans get a drink before the game with so few pubs nearby, bag of cans might be your best bet!
Not taking the chance with cans again.EVER
Not sure what match programme will be on sale this evening.
However, the Dundalk FC press kit is a good read, particularly for stat-heads.

Any links for this game online?
A lot of empty seats on the Duns side. Did they not sell their 2,000?
FT Dundalk 0-2 Rovers
O'Neill '65
Dennehy '90+3
Watched the first half and the hangover came back. What was it like as a game?
that Dan Murray lad is useless, how did he ever pick up another Setanta Cup Winners medal as captain?

Child, it is precisely because of the manner in which Shams spanked Rovers that I can state with certainty that Dundalk have no chance of winning that final.
Ahem. (Leeds didn't make the cut, either)
It's no wonder that Drogheda has descended into being such a miserable excuse of a club if it takes a Shamrock Rovers win to get you exited. Pathetic.
Congratulations to Shamrock Rovers on their victory. They defended well and took their chance when it arrived. Packing the midfield ultimately bore fruit for them.
I was pleased with our performance. The injuries didn't help but the replacements did quite well.
I hope we dust ourselves off and resume our challenge for a European place after a thrilling Setanta campaign.
Drogheda meanwhile can continue to embarrass themselves as being the worst team ever to be in the Premier division.
LEEDS are utter sh**e. everyone knows that but I still love them. Still if it makes you feel better, though I think your dragging comments on a little to long. However you were correct that shams would win but I cant comment on wheither Dundalk were over run easily as I didnt see match.
It's hardly unusual for a fan to revel in his rivals losing.
I thought Dundalk were poor. Finn, Rice and McCormack bossed the midfield, so much so that O'Neill could take off Rice and put on an extra striker with no ill-effects. I really like Dundalk as a team and think they have huge potential but they didn't live up to it today. Special mention to Billy Dennehy's hat-trick of efforts off the woodwork and a well-deserved goal at the end. He's been inconsistent this season but was excellent today.
We play with two out and out wingers and two up top. That puts a lot of pressure on the two central midfielders. We ended up with two in there who just returned from long injuries. They were rusty and Rovers had a numerical advantage anyway. That was where we lost the game.
I don't agree with Dundalk being poor. We outplayed Rovers for much of the first half. Rovers took over after Byrne became injured (why do Rovers fans errupt in celebration at the sight of an injured opponent? Poor). We eventaully re-organised but were one down at that stage.
The best team on the day won. No doubt there.
However, we weren't poor.
Rovers were the better team today and deserved the victory. On the day it just did not go for the Lilywhites, and disappointing as that was, it is something that we must accept and re-focus the energies on the league.
The 7 match run in the Setanta has been a wonderful adventure for Dundalk and hopefully is a portent of better things to come.
The major downside for me today was the behaviour of some of the lowlife followers of the Hoops who attacked Dundalk supporters near the footbridge and adjacent turnstiles and the completely inadequate policing in that area.
Even game until Byrne got injured. I suspected it would be the turning point and it was. With him being the only scorer for them against us this year in 4 games, Dundalk's threat went out the window when he went off. Within 5 minutes we had won the game. Twigg came on, and O'Neill scored. We held on relatively comfortably afterwards, and sealed it in injury time, after our 4th effort hit the post.
Dundalk won the home dressing room, the kit choice, the dug-out choice, and the toss, but we won the cup. Just like in 1987. :)
Then how weree there so many empty seats?
Dundalk fans were packed into the northern half of the West stand. It was about 2 fans for every seat standing in those blocks. Most fans had to make do with standing along the walk ways as there was nowhere else to go.
Having 'unreserved seating' for a game that was always likely to be (or close to) a sellout is just stupid.
Everybody was bunched up in the first couple of sections. There was five of us standing together between three seats where I was and can only imagine it was the exact same everywhere. The better team won yesterday and would agree with the others that the turning point was Jason Byrne going off. It's hard to feel too disheartened though as we are going in the right direction and made a nice few quid from the competition.
The policing out side the ground was an absolute joke though. Half a dozen rovers fans were allowed walk right up to the Dundalk turnstyles and start throwing digs at lads with kids.
The empty seats in the centre were all marked 'reserved', there were one or two Rovers fans and suits (officials, players relatives, Setanta guests?) there. From where I was sitting I couldn't see any other empty seats, I'm guessing there was an empty block reserved for the 300 or so unsold tickets at the Dublin Mountain end of the ground.
Rovers deserved the win, though with the amount of times they hit the woodwork I thought luck was on our side and we might sneak a goal. The foul on Madden looked to be inside the box, it'll be interesting to see that again.
People seem to be missing the fact that Dundalk had a gael force breeze behind them and did very little with it. That was the reason the game was fairly even first half, nothing to do with Jason Byrne imop. Comfortable win I thought.
Deserved Shams win it must be said. They have a lot of quality and depth in that squad. Twigg and McCabe are two excellent subs to be bringing on. Tough on Dundalk to lose Byrne and they offered little after that.
I watched the game on TV and Matthews pro - Shams bias was all too evident yet again. A co-commentator is supposed to at least give the impression that he is neutral.
I hope we can beat Shels in the EA cup and give him a good sickening. At least he might survive the chop this time. No disrespect to Shels but the man is a total gimp.
