Simon Madden, Daniel Kearns, Mark Quigley, Jason Byrne and Nathan Murphy were at Cúchulainn’s Castle, Mount Avenue for a specially-arranged photocall. As you will notice, due to superstition, the players have yet to touch the trophy.

Rovers were the better team today and deserved the victory. On the day it just did not go for the Lilywhites, and disappointing as that was, it is something that we must accept and re-focus the energies on the league.
The 7 match run in the Setanta has been a wonderful adventure for Dundalk and hopefully is a portent of better things to come.
The major downside for me today was the behaviour of some of the lowlife followers of the Hoops who attacked Dundalk supporters near the footbridge and adjacent turnstiles and the completely inadequate policing in that area.

With him being the only scorer for them against us this year in 4 games, Dundalk's threat went out the window when he went off. Within 5 minutes we had won the game. Twigg came on, and O'Neill scored. We held on relatively comfortably afterwards, and sealed it in injury time, after our 4th effort hit the post.
Dundalk won the home dressing room, the kit choice, the dug-out choice, and the toss, but we won the cup. Just like in 1987. :)

The empty seats in the centre were all marked 'reserved', there were one or two Rovers fans and suits (officials, players relatives, Setanta guests?) there. From where I was sitting I couldn't see any other empty seats, I'm guessing there was an empty block reserved for the 300 or so unsold tickets at the Dublin Mountain end of the ground.
Rovers deserved the win, though with the amount of times they hit the woodwork I thought luck was on our side and we might sneak a goal. The foul on Madden looked to be inside the box, it'll be interesting to see that again.
People seem to be missing the fact that Dundalk had a gael force breeze behind them and did very little with it. That was the reason the game was fairly even first half, nothing to do with Jason Byrne imop. Comfortable win I thought.
Deserved Shams win it must be said. They have a lot of quality and depth in that squad. Twigg and McCabe are two excellent subs to be bringing on. Tough on Dundalk to lose Byrne and they offered little after that.
I watched the game on TV and Matthews pro - Shams bias was all too evident yet again. A co-commentator is supposed to at least give the impression that he is neutral.
I hope we can beat Shels in the EA cup and give him a good sickening. At least he might survive the chop this time. No disrespect to Shels but the man is a total gimp.
