When is round two to be played?
How did the games go this weekend?
No update on aertel or snuggies website?
Snugboro 2 Ballina 4.
Good game with great goals scored. Ballina lad scored a cracker from about 35 yards out. best goal ive seen in a long time. all goals were of good quality. Ballina played some good football in the first half, 3 1 up at half time. Snugboro played alot better in the 2nd half but Ballina well deserving of the win. Hope they go on and win it. Be a tight finish though.
I wonder what critera you have to satisfy to start up a junior league and have it accepted by the FAI.
Just wondering if there would be a genuine interest in a alternative. Maybe a winter league that would be defined by its football rather than its facilities.
Apparently the league have just issued a circular to the clubs with 101 demands for the coming season, I just think it could be the "straw..... for a few clubs. I just think we need to get back to basics with a league that promotes the game itself both in playing and promotional side of things. I think clubs have to have a press box for next year, this is a good example of a league thathas lost the plot.
You never know could be a runner I suppose, but you would need at least 10-12 clubs to want to break away. The facilities are there for most clubs and Im sure a few refs could easily be persauded.
A Press Box?? Christ, thats a laugh!
Super League coverage in the papers is adequate at best, the rest of the leagues are as good as non existant.
There is no grounds whatsoever for the Mayo League to even encourage clubs to provide press boxes, let alone make them mandatory.
Having said that, I'm all in favour of setting out minimum standards for Facilities, Pitches & the like. Nobody wants a glorified pub league, and without a strong dedicated comittee, willing to make tough decisions, thats what a winter league might end up being.
Agreed the standard of pitches and changing facilities are second to none in Mayo and the league must be credited for all their work in this side of the game. But having scoreboards, press boxes, stewards at games etc is just plain idiotic to say the least. Also some of the disciplinary issues in recent seasons have been handled very poorly. I am also really against the idea of reducing all divisions to 8 clubs, why?. Maybe we should stop playing football altogether and let the league show off their lovely pitchs to the FAI.
surely it would be fine, think of all the great all weather pitch's in mayo now, a suppose to when mayo leageue was winter soccer before.all super lge teams pitchs are top class(bar moneen, but astro is good in winter).
plus by the last few years,we get more rain in the summer than the winter.
Will somebody show me these " top Class Pitches"?? Most clubs make little effort to have a good surface TBH. You want to play winter footie on pitches that this year have had games called off during the summer!! If you are to add in the youth structure you will then have everybody playing in the winter and really making a state of the pitches or alternativley all year round not giving the pitch a break!!! Winter football is not an option. Snugboro and celtic both have so called " all weather pitches" but take a look at them both at the end of the season say mid november!! They will be very bare and bumpy and youre only heading in to the winter season then!
And where will clubs train on winter nites. Not all have access to foodlights and players away at college ect ect
You have got to be joking. The league would want to look at the state of some of the curent facilities in the leagues before indulging in this clap trap. I can name several clubs who dont operate to current standards yet get away with it because they are lower league. Give me a break! Have they FAI diesease ???
Summer soccer is best, winter soccer would be a joke, games called off. Maybe more players available but thats the only positive.
Moving away from this topic, Fahy 0-1 Ballyheane, any other scores to update?
Kilmore 0-0 Westport
Disappointed we didnt get a win!
Loads of chances!
Point is needed though..
Anyone have any other results...
Snugboro 5 Celtic 1
The other results are..
Erris 2 Ballina 4
Manulla 2 S+F 0
Manulla 2-0 S & F
Celtic 2-5 Snugboro
Erris 2-4 Ballina
Fahy 0-1 Ballyheane
Kilmore 0-0 Westport
Was at Fahy game yesterday and watched the Heane secure themselves another season of mid table mediocrity, that the heane should have won by a lot more need not be addressed here but the profligacy shown was indefensible.
The pitch is as bad as it was 15 Years ago and the bumps are quiet dangerous.
Fahy are tenacious but lack a cutting edge which would leap them up to a Manulla/Snugboro standard ie where they would be guaranteed mid table mediocrity every year as opposed to securing it with 4 games left.:p
The game was mild enough except for a clumsy challange by Podge late in the game which resulted in their left back running the length of the field in an attempt to confront him. Thankfully he never got there but needless to say the officials ignored it and dispatched one of our subs to the clubhouse instead.
My point here is that whatever about the treatment of our sub the refusal to issue a caution to the Fahy offender was illjudged. The match had an early kick- off and it showed and by this i don't mean by the players.
things seem to be getting tight now at the bottom of the table, if kilmore keep picking up points they could make life hard for celtic and s&f. fair play to them for not given up when a few teams could have. westport on the other hand i think have let the league slip. its in ballina's hands now if they dont bottle it.
Our left back should have been cautioned for running the lenght of the field to confront your centre half.
Your centre half should have been shown a straight red card.
We are definately lacking a cutting edge, and never really looked like scoring yesterday.
The young lad up front for Ballyheane took his goal very well and looks like a nice player.
The result leaves both teams on 16 points, not sure if its enough to relax yet!
[QUOTE=Norm;1235857]Our left back should have been cautioned for running the lenght of the field to confront your centre half.

Genuinely dont think a red card was warranted although I have seen them given before most likely at Old Trafford or Manulla the Old Trafford of Mayo Football :D
Sixteen points should be enough methinks but Kilmore not going down without a fight which is unprecendented when one remembers Claremorris, Ballinrobe and Crossmolina before them and also their suspensions..... Quite legendary really:)
Has there been any update/announcement on the relegation/Promotion situation?
