Yep Merrion Sq, he brought that corner of the city to a standstill for a few hours. I remember reading about court case, he also had no flint in the lighter, so the Judge went a bit lenient.

I`m also sure I recall he sent flowers to the ladies who worked there at a later date as an apology.

Some nice photos here of yesterday.

Loads of ex players, Chris Shields, David McMillan, even Joey Malone from 88 double winning captain fame (who was very unwell recently, and whom Maxi was in touch with) went. SK there also.

Just read on twitter that Billy Bagster passed away. I hadn�t heard the name in years , he hasn�t been involved in the LOI for over a decade. Afaik he was a coach at Pats and Monaghan at one time.

Yeah heard the news earlier he also managed my side Longford Town in mid 80s.

I remember hmi managing Monaghan and they played some decent stuff too. Was a remote possiblbility for Dundalk manager when in 1st Division 1st time and were looking for a wily character to sort us out on a tight budget, that overcoat hail rain or shine never seemed to come off, things gone full circle.

I think Bobby Browne replaced him as Mons manager another that would have been a popular choice if given the Dundalk job back then.

He did the rounds on local radio back in the day aswell before the LOI got much coverage. He was on Anna Livia radio I�m not sure if the station is still operating.

Long standing Pats fan of over sixty years Paddy Eccles past away over the weekend. He would always stand out on the Camac terrace with his signature white butchers hat with pats embroidered into it. An absolute legend in Richmond may he rest in peace.

Paddy was one of the many true characters in League of Ireland football. A genuinely hilarious man that always had time for anyone. RIP

Billy Bagster deserves a decent send off. The Malcolm Allison of the LOI, how he even got hold of Gitanes in 80s Ireland is a mystery. Just reminds me that the only thing missing from the latest resurgence is interesting characters and autodidacts like him. Ironic, with the preponderance of a certain 'busy' celebrity podcaster in mind, that a cricket-loving-Rangers-following Dungiven native is being waked as we speak...

The only thing I miss from the bad old days is the lack of characters in the stand and on the pitch. Dermot Keely's 'phone it in' dreary book tour only brought that home even more.

Bit of an unusual one here - but Martin McEvilly, Ireland's oldest man, has died aged 108.

Not sure if he had any LoI connections - maybe not, given he was 20 years older than Galway United - but I think this means the new holder of Ireland's oldest man is the UCD Executive Vice-President Joe Veselsky, who's 106 later this month. He was born in the Austro-Hungarian Empire the week before it was dissolved in 1918.

Sure Galway are only just over ten years old. Being 8 years older the Longford Town, now that's impressive.

Incorrect. While GUFC was out of senior football for two years, the supporters trust kept the club alive by participating in the U19's league, before joining up with Salthill, Mervue and the GFA to form Galway FC. The other "partners" left a couple of years later.
Both of the teams you support will be in the First Division next season, no wonder you're lashing out at other clubs! At least it'll be something to talk about on your ****e podcast
