Did anyone catch what exactly Rooney said to the camera after the match? RTÉ just had it on.
"good to hear your own fans booing you"
errr, what do you expect Wayne? you and your team had a shocker!
“Nice to see your own fans booing you,” he said. “If that’s what loyal support is, for f***’s sake.”
Yes Wayne, damn and blast those fans who had travelled thousands of miles, and paid thousands of pounds in the foolish expectation their team might be able to even create a decent chance against a team ranked 30th in the world. What demands they have!
I suppose many wont agree with me, but I agree with Wayne here. It's not as if the players wanted to draw, and wtf does booing a team actually achieve other than probably making the players feel even more isolated? England haven't even lost a game, and if they win their next match they'll go through.. if they don't win, then you can boo them and throw tomatoes :D
Why support/follow a team, if you want to support/follow a team, then get behind them, thats what it is about, not about performance or opinions, you follow a team, you give your best to them, what happens, happens, move on.
That's all predicated though on the players giving you their best. Some of the England players were strolling about as if playing their first preseason friendly rather than a vital match at the world cup.
But I do agree with the point that the hysteria that surrounds the England is unhealthy, if highly entertaining.
It's ridiculous the media circus around the team and it's utterly mad how things that two weeks ago were being pointed to as evidence of how good Capello is (strict team camp, aloofness for instance), are now being used against him.
That said, if ever a group of supporters were justified in booing a team, surely it was last Saturday night- England were inept beyond belief and not a single player wanted to take responsibility.
Sometimes you see someone and are sort of knocked back by how good they look.. happened to me twice today!
Wimbledon starts tomorrow, time for the world cup to take a back seat for me.
