Any other results?
how did that game go? 2-0 s&f must be nearly there now!! fair play to them. ye play them again in 2 weeks in the cup final, s&f must be favourites now.
celtic lost 1-0 to glenhest.
It was a very close game actually. Hard fought in the first half with both sides trying to play some football. S & F took the lead with a penalty mid way through the 2nd half and had probably the best chances although we could have equalised but Richie Needhams effort was just too high. S & F scored late on. I think Robben11(were u playing?) will agree it was a good spirited performance from both sides and looking forward to playing them in the final...of course S & F will be favorites but anything can happen on the day...we wont be a push over!

well done to both teams, think everyone has to say s&f deserve the league, they have been top since the 1st weekend i think. credit has to go to there players and management for there good run so far, 1 loss in the league, final of the league cup and 1/4 final of the chadwicks cup. they'll give a good account of themselves in the super league next year.
It would. Seen as how they came 'third'. Daft as a brush, it has to be said, but we don't make the rules. I said at the start of the season it was stupid, even if it was to benefit us. I think that it would be unlikely that the third from bottom super league team would lose, but you never know on the day. What a kick in the tits it would be for, say, Claremorris, to fight all season to stay above the bottom two, only to get relegated by a team who cant make the top half of the Premier division. Having said that, it would be fairly funny too.
Although looking at the table it's far more likely to be Iorrais or Bangor contesting the third place play off...
irishyop, What went wrong!!! celtic o glenhest 1.....Have celtic blown er chances in winning the title....
I think they are a very well organised team who play well together! They are beatable though, when on the back foot they aren't as composed as a super league team would be.
They have the quality to remain in the super league.
Final will be tight, thats if we are at our best though!
S&F are a good side.
They are obviously putting the work in on the training ground and they have some nice players.
Apart from the big two they have nothing to be frightened of in the Super League next year.
The final should be a good game, S&F are favourites, and rightly so. We have nothing to lose, (apart from the match i suppose) and will be confident of causing an upset.
120 mins of football. Fahy on penalties. Banker.
ya hard to see s&f losing 3 games but its not over just yet...Its been some turn around for s&f and what a season they are having.Credit must go to there manager, great job...
Did not get the rub of the green on Saturday evening, conceeded a very soft goal from a free kick and had a number of very good chances which we should have put away.
The fat lady is on her way up the steps to sing an S&F song but far from throwing in the towel yet. ;)
Sounds like one of those evenings when its just not going to happen...big game against swinford next weekend,
s and f have a very good team with costello organising things from the back, ably assisted by reape i think his name is.very good young centre back who covers anything that costello misses.didn't realise that shane hughes, formerly of conn rangers was playing with them-he's a great addition.gerry gaughan pulls all the strings in midfield and paul fitz has lightening pace and feet.making for a pretty decent team!i thought we were pretty lucky to only be beatin by two goals to be honest as our keeper also saved a second penalty and we didnt really threaten their goal for the game bar that late half chance.reckin that we'll definitely put it up to them in the final though.need to score an early goal and get syuck into them as once s and f score they become very confident and can spread the ball round.well theres my twopence worth anyway!
oh yeah i thought joe keane was absolutely outstanding for us the last day.cleaned up everything on the ground and in the air-showing great skill in coming out of defence with the ball also.surely a mayo call up beckons?
If you look at the fixtures this weekend, they have a tall order...cross have s and f and swinford have celtic b.
we have kilmore so its really make or break for the 3 of them, kilmore, cross and swinford will all have to win to be in with any chance of the 2nd promotinal spot!
Im injured at the moment hoping to be back as quick as possible, some important games are comming up, thought Fahy showed great sprit throught the game they have some really tough players, joe kane was brilliant he won everything thrown at him, but we did create al the chances and we got the breakthrough with fitzi penalty, and lovely finish from john o hara, the bench is looking very strong, dec tigue and john o hara both comming on as subs, they both represented mayo in nearly every underage.. must be daunting for opposition to see players like them come on as subs in second hal of games, great competition for places...
Iīve been touting Joe Keane for a mayo call up for ages, itīs good to see opposition players rating him. He didnīt even make the team of the division last season, which was a ridulous decision. Speaking of which, who would people put forward as candidates for this years team? I know itīs early yet, but it would be good to see a bit of discussion on it, rather than the presumably random method employed previously. It seems whoever picks it chooses five or six players from the Division winning club, then throws in a few well known faces from the teams who come top four. This year itīs fair to say it will be the same, and deservedly so in the case of S+F, who have been head and shoulders above everyone else and will have no problem staying in the Super League. They should supply a considerable portion of the divisional team. Celtic would hope to have a couple of their boys in too whilst we should at least have Joe Keane, along with possible candidates in Gary Goggins in the hole and Peter Heraty at right back. Stephen Moran has been immense since he joined, but missed the first few games and may not be considered. Two penalty saves out of three for starters! I know GoodFootball, Cloggs, and R. Rover will all be holding their breathe when the team is published in the paper, whlist hopefully Norm has more sense ;)
Who would lads put forward from their teams? Who has impressed ye from opposition teams? Why do fools fall in love? Answers on a postcard.
Id say the big pitch will be an advantage to us, not just for our two wingers but for full backs to getting up and down in support, s'nf movement off the ball in games has been important, nice surface like milebush will be to our advantage, however fahy do pose a huge threat, set-pieces there big and strong and they play a tight game at the back, possible fitness there disadvantage thats how we got them saturday, manager has kept the same level of fitness throught the season and if there was a sign of it dipping training would be stepped up a level, which has been the key to our season so far.As for 1/4 final we should get through it and not fear who we get in the semi's thats if we progress..
Alan Macdonald, Fitzi, Craig Reape, Ger Gaughan....mayo squad
