You're joking me Geysir, he was total gash, vey disappointing performance.

Whatever your opinion, he was a lot less gash than Carrick.
Does Carrick play much for Man U?
I thought he was poor myself. Poor shot-taking (which he's supposed to be good at), and not as tidy with his passing as he could have been at times.
Watched Gibson a few times now and I must admit I don't really know what Trap and Fergie see in him. I do think he could be very good when he's older but he's certainly not ready for matches like last week or tonight, from what I've seen. He should really be out on loan.
(Seething he was in the squad for last week and had to be brought on, to be honest, but I don't want to talk about that anymore.)
The RTÉ panel made the point that he's 22 and should be knocking on the door of a regular first team place by now if he's good enough. They also said he shouldn't be in the Ireland squad. I agree to an extent, but I think he needs to work harder. Sometimes his on-pitch attitude reminds me of Paddy McCourt. The likes of O'Shea is only truly cementing a place at Old Trafford now and Fletcher is coming of age at 25. RE the Ireland squad - there are plenty of people who maybe shouldn't be there and I don't think Gibson's the worst! He's certainly got potential.
He had a couple of woeful shots and gave the ball away, but he did make several good interceptions, some good passes and on one occasion carried the ball from deep inside his own half to the opposition's box. Carrick was equally poor, if not worse and he won't be subject to the criticism that Gibson is.
Another thing to consider is that the team around Gibson was very very poor and perhaps Gibson should have shown a bit of leadership as one of the more senior players (Neville and Vidic excluded). There was terrible movement up front and on the wings and Anderson offered nothing from midfield either. I would want to see him playing regularly before I would condemn him as the RTÉ panel did tonight.
well what age did whelan, the two hunts, lawrence, folan and andrews make their ireland debuts lads?? hes only a spring chicken compared to them?
still wish he looked a bit more bothered when playing thou...
potential is there its up to him wether he becomes a darren fletcher or a liam miller(even thou i'm glad to se things are improving at hibs)
Interestingly, in the Guardian's match report, Daniel Taylor, a noted United-watcher, opines that Gibson would be a regular in most other Premiership teams.
He obviously sees something.
I would share the view of Predator except that Carrick was worse.
I don't know if I mentioned that before.
I would only begin to sound like Owls Fan if I went on about the rte panel's ability to be objective. To claim that Trap would ignore his own decades of experience and include Gibson in the squad solely on the word of Ferguson, does take the panel biscuit award of the week.
He just doesn't have it. Wes Brown syndrome. If he didn't play for United, there would be no chance he would get a call up.
A fringe player at Man Utd is probably the equivalent of being the first name on the team sheet at most other premiership clubs. The starting players at Man Utd are each worth tens of millions of Euro, so it's much more difficult to be knocking on the door of the first 11 at Old Trafford than anywhere else.
Giles is right about the catch 22 situation. He can't get in the team because there are so many good midfielders at Man Utd, and you need experience and gametime to get good.
Players like Carrick built their careers at Spurs, as did Ronaldo in Portugal and a lot of other famous Man Utd players past and present, built their career and reputation at lesser top flight clubs.
I know Gibson was out on loan at Grimsby, but again that's because of the talent at Utd.
He might have been better off joining a lesser premier league club, getting lots of first team action and building his experience and reputation. Being a fringe player at Utd is a thankless task.
Roy Keane is a good example of how to build a career. Join a lesser premier league team, get tons of experience and then move onto a bigger club. Gibson is never going to play 35-40 games a season at Old Trafford as it stands.
it was actually antwerp and wolves he was on loan to emmet
i have the same reservations about him but i really hope that fergie is right and he turns out to be a really good player for both united and ireland
i think john o shea is really great by the way! not that that has anything to do with this discussion tho!
He got first team football at Wolves but wasn't really impressive, but this was mainly due to Mick playing him in a wide position more often than not. He wasn't bad but he didn't really shine either, but he was playing out of position.
I think its important he moves to another premierleague side on loan who will play him consistently in the middle of midfield. Teams like Burnley, Wigan, Hull, Blackburn or Pompet would be a good move for him until the end of the season imo.
I always get the impression that he is playing well within himself. At times last night when he actually went forward at pace, he looked impressive. Unfortunately he is often too content to just sit and play the ball back to his defenders. In other words I wish he would get stuck in a bit more. Still have hopes for him though.
Agree with Drummerboy. Gibson is a tidy footballer but he too often seems content to link play rather than look for openings and the more risky/positive pass. It has has been said before but it still rings true; he needs to be more assertive on the ball to move his career forward.
Your case is destroyed once you start quoting "The RTÉ panel". They have an agenda (shock horror ). They started off the discussion by saying Andy Reid should be in the team instead of him and were setting up Gibson for a fall. This is their hobby horse and if and when Reid gets back in, there will be another hobby horse.
Gibson is a reasonable player. WOn't set the world on fire but would probably make most Championship and many lower Premiership sides (i.e. he's an Irish international ;)).
I really think there is something about him. If he was given an extended run in the team then I am sure he would prove this. He wasn't great last night but being beside Anderson really didn't help him. Anderson was woeful
One of the 'ugly sisters' reckoned he's good enough for Ireland midfield but will need to work harder to stay in Utd team.
Watched him fairly closely last night, thought he was reasonable and better than most have said. 5.7/10. At least he showed glimpses of urgency, but another "reserved" performance interspersed with good attacking passing and the odd misplaced one.
A move to another club in the PL (Wolves on loan?) would help him a lot. He's neat and tidy but has yet to master how to control and influence the tempo of a game.
Geysir - Carrick seems to have fallen out of favour with Fergie this season and is not getting that much game time despite Man Utd's injury problems. Rumours doing the rounds that Fergie is willing to offload him to Spurs in exchange for Modric.
Lads who hit the ball in the first half, was it him, they reshowed it on sky sports, from the left of the centre circle, curled it through to the edge of the 18 yard box. It was a sublime pass, granted park or whoever was running on didnt quite make it. Shots were very wayward which I felt bad for him as i thought he was trying to shoot and build confidence.
Overall his passes were a bit rusty, but he was good in tight situations and didnt delay long on the ball, game time would help this. I definitely saw potential in him, its a pity he couldn't be more aggressive when not on the ball. I think thats where fergie needs to start telling him to get stuck in and to look for more passes. I saw potential last night.
That's the problem with the lad, Paul. He's had potential for about 3 years now, and it's time to start delivering on it.
It's a real double edged sword that he's at United. On the one hand, the highest levels of training and conditioning, as well as one of the most successful managers of all time.
On the other, passage blocked to first team football by some of the best players in the Premiership.
He is capable of the more incisive pass - for example, he showed that against the Spurs in last season League Cup final. The problem is he doesn't do it often enough and it could be argued that he needs to playing with more regularity to develop the confidence to do it more often. Regarding his international prospects; I think we have a couple of young players coming through that will challenge Gibson not only for a position in the team but also for a position in the squad.
rating from goal.com for last night.

Darron Gibson - 5 - Struggled to make his mark and his passing went askew too often when put under pressure. Failed to find the target with his sledgehammer of a right boot. Disappointing night was capped off when hooked for Carrick.
He fared better than Anderson who got a 4 but they seem to be suggesting centre mid was the primary problem last night.
i thought gibson struggled last night, and struggled when he came on against france. needs a move.
Well all I can say is both Giles and Dunphy couldn't make it at Man Utd so they can't really talk.
Giles did go on and do well at Leeds.
It's a tough place to do well at, Man Utd. The recent generation of Utd Players have been world class and delivered some amount of trophies.
Anyone who thinks an up and coming player even at 22 can knock on the door of the first team is deluding themselves. Maybe when Scholes retires, he might have a better chance.
I'd say it's tough for Gibson. He can't get a game in the Premier League and then some people, including on here, expect him to turn up in a Champions League match and run the show.
Give the guy a chance.
According to Man Utd fans on another forum, he is dominating many reserve games. Ferguson said he has been excellent in training. I really think he needs a run of games, and i doubt Ferguson would have the courage to do that. He was better last night than Carrick is in most games.
He needs games under his belt now the same way Fletcher needed them 3-4 yrs ago when he was average at best. I reckon the odd game at Utd and Ireland is better than going out on loan. With CL and carling cup games coming up he should be able to get a game a week. He could do with putting in a couple of good performances here and there.
On a side note, did anyone notice a severly receding hairline when he was being substituted, Friar Tuck style.
Maybe it's the run of games he's needs, I think he could certainly benefit from it. I still worry though, he's never looked too out of place but neither has he really shone in any appearance for either Man Yoo or Ireland.
Think you are trying to put words in my mouth there.
The point I am making is different to what you think.
By common consent Giles was a good player in his day, perhaps even a great player.
But he couldn't hold down a regular place at Man Utd, or wasn't knocking on the door of being a regular first team player.
That team was of a similar standard to the one today, it went on to win the European Cup, had a few League Championships under it's belt.
It goes to show how hard it is to break into the first team at Old Trafford given the wealth of talent. Giles couldn't do it, nor Dunphy nor a lot of other talented players who had to go elsewhere. It doesn't mean Gibson is a bad player because he's not a starter at Man Utd. He doesn't have the experience, Scholes, Carrick, and all the other players have the experience and if you were losing a game to someone like Arsenal and you needed an experienced player to come off the bench, and take control of the game, I think most people would prefer it to be Scholes because of his experience.
No intention of being drawn in to a debate with you....you're credibility just decreases with every post you make (if that's still possible).........but just for other posters (in case they don't know), I want to point out that Giles enjoyed a very successful early career with Man Utd, joining at 16, playing regularly with the first team from the age of 19 to 22 and winning a cup medal in 1963 before requesting a transfer to Leeds. During the time that Giles spent with Leeds they were arguably more successful than Man Utd....in no small part due to Giles's contribution.
From watching Gibson last night I think he knew that of all the players out there, he was the one most at risk, and rushed himself a few times. He tried to get involved, and his frustration was there to see. The crowd were getting on his back a bit, they know he's got some shot on him, and seem to think he's going to ping one in every time he gets the ball.
Fergie looked pretty ****ed off after the free kick before he was yanked.
