Will be a lot of pressure on Bnei now - they will be expected to finish the job and secure the big draw. Hopefully that can play into Rovers' hands.

Any word on Levski Sofia's draw?
Of course if rovers do go through the national broadcasters won't be falling over themselves in a bidding war for the rights
Dundalk are a bribeable ref / 7 lucky bouces away from a glamour tie against.......Kalmar / Dacia Chisinau
Levski/Dundalk Vs. Kalmar/Dacia.
Fantastic, just popping in and I was wondering how a Sligo fan would manage to make themselves look a bitter, obsessed child in a European thread. Keep up the good work.
Just seeing Rovers being pulled out of the hat followed by Juventus was an incredible rush. Imagine if we actually get to play them. Dreams are made of that.
I think we've seen in Europe so many times before, teams come to Ireland in the first leg get a decent result without looking overly impressive and then really turning it on at home to bury the tie. I think Rovers really needed an advantage last night but on the flip side at least they know they have to score. The main thing is they keep it alive for as long as possible, the pressure is really on Bnei at home as mentioned above. They did only beat the Armenian side 1-0 at home after a 0-0 draw in Armenia and the Armenians went close on a couple of occasions late on so there is some hope for Rovers. The heat is another major factor so if Rovers get the ball they need to hold onto it or they'll be chasing shadows all night.
Can you imagine Juve coming to Tallaght?? A team thats been involved in match fixing down the years and bribing refeeres and a negative style of play might get to the play the Italian giants!
Yes Jim, yes he did.
Aviva only opens on 31 July (rugby provinces match)
first leg Rovers v Juve would be 29 July - wonder if any chance of holding it in Aviva ?
Of course the Israelis are going to be big favourites, and it'd pretty much need a huge upset for us to progress. We had a few half chances, but not Irish teams always do and never seem to put them away (Pats v. Berlin at the RDS last time) not because of bad luck, but because we're just not as good technically as the teams who can finish those easy chances. Still, its a game of football. There's nothing to stop us getting a dodgy penalty in the 1st minute and cling on for dear life. Apparently the ref is going to be French, they owe us something. We go in hope not expectation, and after what happened to Dundalk last night I'm happy enough to be going with at least hope.
time to put in permanent seats I reckon, capacity is being tested too often - are there any plans to do this ?
4,000 seems a lot to me behind each goal - Real Madrid game only have 11,000 which is about 2,500 behind each but still close enough to RDS capacity to justify not moving game
U2 concert in Juve stadium on Fri 6 Aug so wonder if Juve might agree to switch with Rovers home in second leg (could use Aviva then)
if fingal could come through somehow you'd fancy the against honka/bangor.
i wouldnt worry about permanent seating till after the 2nd leg in israel anyway. one step at a time, but you could see shams scoring out there. fingers crossed.
fair point, big games seem to be getting around 5,000 not filling the 5,700 capacity
could have some sell outs before the end of the season (home v Bohs, possible cup semi final, possible Juve game)
suppose its a trade off - every so often they will lose money (would have gotten 10,000 + for Bohs game last season)
So, best case scenario (for the league as a whole):
Bohs beat TNS & get a reasonably glamour tie with Anderlecht, followed by at least one other game in the Europa (I don't think any of us would bet on them beating Anderlecht at the moment)
Shams win in Israel & get a fantastic glamour tie against Juve (again no one would bet on a win there ... )
Fingal win at home & win through again against the Fins/Welsh - giving us 2 teams one game away from the Europa group stages
Dundalk get something to add to the coeff.
All adds up to lots of addition to the coeff for future seasons & a LOT of cash-flow & prestige, TV & Media coverage etc
Worst case: none of the above - none of our teams are in the driving seat (1:0 at home is OK but not comfortable) & I'm just worried that they will all fall at this hurdle - not expecting, or pessimistic, just worried.
realistically only bohs could be our only hope next week. id expect them to come through.
4th round of Europa League is potentailly very lucrative
Bohs / Fingal would be unseeded - they would play one of the 37 seeded teams
look who those seeded teams are likely to be - Liverpool, Porto, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven, Juventus, Sporting Lisbon, Olympiacos, Stuttgart, Galatasaray, Dortmund, Napoli, Leverkusen, Paris SG, Celtic, Mallorca, Palermo, Besiktas, Man City, Feyenoord, AEK Athens, Aston Villa
there's about a 50/50 chance of getting one of them - any of those ties would be a big money spinner and imagine Liverpool, Man City, Aston Villa or Juventus (with Aviva available)
You would indeed. Both teams are extremely beatable
Maritimo match highlights here (bad blunder for their 2nd):

Was at the match last night. Thought Rovers did a lot of the basics as well, if not better than the Israelis. I reckon they have a 1 in 4 chance of progressing.
Were they to draw Juventus, Italian teams are notoriously slow starters in Europe, esppecially with a World Cup hangover.
Fair point
Not much. Loads of German teams in action that week and ours clashed with the group stages of the Champions League too. Rights were bought by a German cable channel (kinda like 3e here) and they showed both legs live. Don't get me wrong, we did OK from the 2 european runs but it was nowhere neare the cash cow some believe
Away both times I think.Quote:
Were St. Pat's at home or away first in those ties against Hertha and Steaua?
Dont see why Shams are not in with a great chance. Yes, it will be difficult, but with a potential tie against Juve they should not lack for incentive ! Showed they can score against Israelis so why not nick an away goal ??
Great draw for Bohs IF we can finish off TNS. cant see us beating Andelectht but should be a good tie and we should make a few bob (IF......).
Good draw for FIngal in that they would have a realistic chance of progression - great result last night especially as they are "new" to Europe.
If I'd never seen either team before, or knew their respective leagues I'd be inclined to agree the tie is still very open. But we're an Irish team. How many years now have we created a big chance in a game only for a player to panic (Twigg last night for instance, Pats at home to Hertha, Robinson away to Kiev in the last second). It just seems we don't have the technical skills, and winning pedigree to get through in these games. All will be revealed next week though, you never know.
The Isrealis aren't the same level of Kiev or Hertha in fairness (both in terms of quality or the round in which the game was played)
Pats knocked ut a Russian side last year too (at the same round Rovers would face Juventus). Wasn't a breakthrough though.
I still think Irish teams are "punching above their weight" but we'll see how the ties finish to see if the level can be maintained
I agree Bnei Yahuda aren't as good as those teams, but the prize on offer will be huge and it will still be a bloody big ask, especially in 40 degree heat. But aren't we now in the round that you beat the Russians? (did we not receive a bye for the round that you played the Maltese in?)
Nope, Valletta was the Second Qualifying Round too.
Nope, Valetta beat an icelandic team in the first round (Same round as Dundalk beat the Luxembourgs and last year Sligo lost to the Albanians).
We were seeded in the 2nd round so played the winners of that game. Same round as you played them Israelis
Then the Russian in the 3rd round (They were drawn to play the winners of Pats v Valetta as we were unseeded).
Unseeded in 4th round and lost to Steaua.
The year before we played Olimps in first round (there was no prelim), then Elfsborg i second before playing Hertha in final play off.
