Weird one alright. He needs to start getting games under his belt at this stage of his career
I suppose he does. But Moyes doesn't want to let him out on loan and said as much.
From September:
"We might look at sending Shane Duffy out on loan but we have to field a team in the new Under 21 league. It looks like everyone is taking that a little bit more seriously and we'd like to be as strong as we can be. "We'd like to see the players come on but Ross [Barkley], and maybe Shane, are in a different situation.
"My idea is to keep Shane here. He went out to Scunthorpe on loan last season and came back and played a couple of games - I thought it made a big difference.
"He had confidence and he understood playing on a Saturday was serious, meaning an awful lot to supporters and managers."
From that interview above, Duffy said:
"I played nearly every game in pre-season and I feel like I am getting better, getting more mature and I am enjoying football at the minute."
"The manager reminds me that there are not many 20-year-old centre backs playing in the Premier League and that I have got to be patient, which I am.
"I am just enjoying being at this club to be honest and it is a dream to even be near the first team. So I am just being patient, working hard every day in training and hopefully I will get in the team some day"
Heitinga started at CB last week and was hooked at half time. hopefully Duffy can start getting more game time. Very good club to be at. If Duffy and Coleman develop into regular strters in Everton back 4 it will bear very well for the future of the Irish defense
He's also a headcase. He's much more suited to the more cultured Lee Cattermole role.
Duffy is on the bench today for Everton at Reading.
Finally brought on today albeit in the last minute

Everton manager David Moyes has said that he would have 'no problems' about putting Shane Duffy in the first team.
The Toffees boss is currently in the transfer market in search of a centre back, but admitted that 21-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 international Duffy was ready to step into the team when required.
Duffy, who signed a new contract in 2012, has had loan spells with Burnley and Scunthorpe United, and has made just two appearances for Everton this season.
"We've got young Shane Duffy who's doing well and we think he's ready to certainly go on loan but because of our numbers we can’t do it," Moyes told reporters ahead of his side's clash with Southampton.
"I'd have no problems putting him in the first team either. He's looking OK just now he really is."
Moyes also expressed the belief that it is difficult to play a young centre back in the modern game, considering the demands that are made and says that it is a position that requires experience.
"It's actually harder to play a young centre back than it is a young goalkeeper these days," he added. "Centre backs are really hard to put in and when you get the young ones in sometimes they're not quite ready."
"I think the requirements on them are different. They’re sometimes the ones who start the game; they have to be able to read the game depending on the way the opposition plays, whether it’s with one up and one off.
"It’s a position that nearly carries an ‘experience required’ tag with it," said the Everton coach.
David Moyes says Duffy is not yet good enough for the first team.
So we can assume he wont start tonight (which he won't) Coleman starts but not but no Gibson.
I'd agree with Moyes though it like the foundation of the team in a way.
Moyes is saying that Duffy is good enough but not experienced enough, yet.
damned with faint praise there
he's good enough, but he's not good enough
He's saying he's good enough but he doesn't have the experience of those ahead of him, experience he would gain by going on loan. So while he does have the talent, he isn't good enough yet to overhaul the likes of Jagielka and Distin. Which is fair enough.
That's what I said Charlie:)
And Moyes isn't going to let go out on loan to get the experience because they need him as back up, because ...... he's good enough.
I was going to qualify it, but I don't think it matters, if you are good enough you play, because by being good enough you most likely have the experience to be good enough.
"He's saying he's good enough but ......he isn't good enough" :D
He isn't going to let him go on loan because they are threadbare, if he buys someone who is good enough then he will let him out on loan.
You don't have to decipher any hidden text or subtext geysir. Its pretty simple. But feel free to argue over the semantics as you see fit, as I know you will :D
David Moyes is saying that Duffy is not good enough for the first team.
No. He's saying he's good enough for the first team, but Jagielka, Distin and Heitinga are even better.
Does this mean Duffy is finished?
All over for the lad.
I see it through a realists eyes, or lets say as a neutral, non republic of Ireland supporter would see it. Not that I am, but you know what I mean. :D
Pseudo-realist would be a more accurate label, seeing as you are not yourself. :)
''I want to get back into the senior squad' - Ireland under-21 captain Shane Duffy': http://www.goal.com/en-ie/news/3942/...eland-under-21
Duffy reckons he'll go on loan to a Championship club once the loan window reopens on Thursday.Quote:
Newly-appointed Ireland under-21 captain Shane Duffy has expressed his desire to stake a claim for a place in Giovanni Trapattoni's senior squad, but acknowledged that he needs to be playing regularly.
The 21-year-old Everton centre back was first involved with Trapattoni's team just under three years ago in May 2010 and was called up in February 2012 as a replacement for Richard Dunne, but has yet to make his senior debut for the Boys in Green.
"[Trapattoni] telephoned me before the Greece game in November, saying I needed regular games to get into the squad. Hopefully as soon as I’m getting matches on loan, I'll be in the senior squad," Duffy told the Irish Examiner.
"I'd come into the senior squad at 17 after I'd just changed over from Northern Ireland. It was the time I'd broken into the Everton team for the first team too, so the Ireland manager wanted to see me. That was a big step-up but I want to get back there as soon as I can."
The Toffees defender revealed that he had the chance to join Championship side Middlesbrough on loan at the beginning of the season, but was not allowed to leave Goodison Park, as David Moyes wanted to retain him as cover. However, he is hopeful of securing a move when the loan window reopens.
He said: "I had a chance to go to Middlesbrough at the start of the season but the manager needed me as cover because Tony Hibbert got injured.
"The loan window reopens this Thursday and I'll likely move to a Championship club then. I must have been on the Everton bench for 40 games this season!"
Meanwhile Ireland under-21 boss Noel King believes that the forthcoming game against the Netherlands will give him a 'good indication' of where his squad is at ahead of the qualification round for the 2015 Uefa Under-21 European Championships.
"It's a good match for us," King told the Irish Times. "It will give us a good indication of where we are although the draw was good for us in the sense that we have no games in March or June which means we'll get a few more friendlies under our belts before the qualifiers start against the autumn."
Republic of Ireland under-21s face the Netherlands in a friendly international at Tallaght Stadium on Wednesday February 6. Kick off 13.00 BST.
Hopefully he does. Whatever he can do to convince Moyes that he can be thrown in in a league game he should do.
I'll repeat what I said in the Gibson thread. Should be Everton's backup CB. Heitinga has been pure poison this season, costing Everton goals nearly everytime he plays.
Named new U21s captain. I guess that rules out a senior call-up!
On for the last two minutes of injury time as Everton hang at Oldham.
Well that plan backfired. He was brought on to compete with 6'6 Matt Smith but was outfought on a corner.
Duffy was brought on for the last two minutes of stoppage time in Everton's FA Cup game against Oldham away, but Everton ended up conceding from a corner with pretty much the last touch of the game. Ended 2-2.
Gibson played the full game.
Perhaps Duffy got distracted by the bizarre sight of the Oldham goalkeeper in the mix for that last high ball, jumping up with his gloved hands outstretched trying to catch the ball. Typical of the modern keeper, he missed and the next Oldham player headed it in.
He's always in good spirits on his twitter feed:

Harsh to blame Duffy, it was a great ball in and panic stations in the box.
If that happened in the PL, a free out wouldve been given. The Oldham keeper was very fortunate he didnt get a hand on the ball himself.
ITV not blaming him directly but not admonishing him either.
fans don't seem to be blaming him on twitter either: https://twitter.com/search/realtime?q=to%3AShaneDuffy34

It's drawn a lot of outrage on Twitter with PUP-member Phil Hamilton deciding to lodge a complaint to the Merseyside Police: https://twitter.com/P_Hamilton_PUP/s...24708350353410Quote:
A Premiership footballer has denied responsibility for a message that appeared on his Twitter account, apparently in support of the IRA.
Shane Duffy, an Everton defender and Republic of Ireland international, said someone took his phone and retweeted the message without his knowledge.
The message appeared on his account during the earlier hours of Monday.
He later apologised for any offence caused and tweeted: "cant leave ur phone anywhere now!!" (sic).
Duffy, 21, is originally from County Londonderry.
As a teenager, he played for Northern Ireland at Under 16, 17, 19, and 21 level.
In February 2010, he switched his international allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.
The footballer has more than 48,000 followers on the micro-blogging site.
Later on Monday morning, Duffy reiterated his denials and said he was getting "abuse" from many Twitter users for something he did not do.
He posted: "The retweets and tweets was not me. Got to accept the hate. Really am sorry for this mess! Sorry guys!"
Everton FC has not yet made a comment on the matter.
It is not the first time a Republic of Ireland international has been involved in controversy on Twitter.
Last month, Duffy's Irish team-mate and fellow Derry native James McClean closed his Twitter account after a row over an Irish rebel song.
McClean, who plays for Sunderland AFC, named The Broad Black Brimmer by The Wolfe Tones as his favourite song.
The song tells the story of a boy whose father is killed fighting for the IRA.

Wonder if Mr.Hamilton has the same concern over victims of loyalism and their collusion with the Brits on occasion?
