Clontarf clinched the Leinster title with a fairly close-run victory over Merrion yesterday. Tarf made 177 all out (Cusack 60, O'Reilly 42, Hokin 34) before bowling Merrion out for 154 (Joyce 54, Hokin 4-35.) Their Aussie pro Rod Hokin was due to leave for home today after contributing handsomely to their provincial double success. Hopefully we'll see him again next year.
The Hills finish third after defeating Railway Union, who complete their programme without a single league win to their name. Their all-star squad (including Irish internationals Kevin O'Brien, Trent Johnston, Kenny Carroll and Roger Whelan, with occasional cameos from Niall O'Brien) will therefore play Section B cricket next year. YMCA are the other relegated side.
Leinster have been promoted from Section B; Malahide look likely to join them after pipping challengers Phoenix by a single wicket in the Park. Victory over Munster Reds at the Mardyke next Saturday will clinch promotion.
How many of the Marquee named players of Merrion actually played for the team this year in their campaign?
That 20/20 competition is brialliant. One of the most exciting sports around. Really enjoyed the semi-final between India and Australia played with such passion by both sides. An India vs Pakistan final. Watch the sparks fly.
