Superb player who never fulfilled his potential due to injuries. Would love to see him make himself available for us again as Im sure he could do a job for us. However, it is likely his days in CM are gone - which is where we would need him most.
Had a stinker for W.Brom earlier from what I saw of the highlights.
And injuries mean he's retired from internationals.
Except for recurring injuries he would have been a mainstay of the Irish midfield post Roy Keane. We should say thanks for the effort Steven Reid did put in for us and it would be nice if the fans could understand that it would have been so much more only for those injuries.
Fondest memories of him in the green are coming on against Cameroon in the WC and hitting an absolute belter of a free kick that nearly won us the match.
Also his performances in the first few games under Trap, Georgia, Norway and Montenegro, he was very assured until the injuries curse struck again. From what Id heard, a very likeable character as well. What Trap said about him (and publicly) re his injuries was very out of line.
Sure was and Reid had a pop at him yesterday on Setanta. Interesting comments in that he said he'd find it hard to return under Trap, which obviously means he'd like to play for Ireland again. I wonder was it a ploy to induce Trap to apologise and get himself to the Euros should we qualify...
West Brom: Steven Reid admits quitting international football helped his Albion career
“Next summer, if there were a few injuries and they were in desperate need, then you never know.”

Good man Steven. Who wouldn't want to see him actually benefit from an injury for a change eh? Not a chance of seeing him in the green again though imo.Quote:

Speaking of midfield injuries, and there's a possibility I may have dreamt this...but I think Paul Green mentioned during the week that Trap and co. are in regular contact and have or are planning on having him watched soon.
Steven "Tonya Harding" Reid, perhaps....
Reid on Off the Ball now.
Said he'd find it very difficult to turn down a call-up and that he was very hurt by Trap's comments back in the day. He said he'd heard it was a misunderstanding but you still can't be throwing around comments like that when a player is recovering from an 11-month injury.
Sing him up for Euro. Perfect Veteran hand to get us 3 vs Cro-Asia and we can take him out early while Spain is scoring gobs on us and then he will be perfect for us in the decider vs Italy.
Normally I'd tell him to eff off, but in fairness, it isn't like he's coming out of the woodwork for a major finals. I remember him saying that he'd always consider a return if needed due to injury. Was he injured back when we ended up playing Paul Green against Russia? Coulda used him in that match.
He was still only featuring sporadically for West Brom, if I remember correctly.
I don't think he has a hope of getting back. If he'd called Trapattoni, maybe. But, to Trap, a player making his feelings known through the media is like breaking omerta.
Brilliant free kick from Reid to put WBA up 1-0! About 25 yards out (roughly middle of the pitch) Reid gets it up and down excellently, Al-Habsi had no chance...well done.
A midfield partnership of Stephen Reid and David Meyler would be our best midfield partnership for the Euros . . . . . .
Poor couple minutes for Reid. Clattered in to a challenge and got a yellow card. Just brought down Victor Moses in the box as well to concede a penalty, 2-1 Wigan.
The Stevie Reid of the Norway/Georgia and Montenegro games would be a brilliant addition to the current squad (the best performances by a CM under Trap IMO). However Im not sure that Reid is still about. He has done decent for WBA at right back, but he has played very little in midfield and has admitted that he may not be able for that position anymore. Having said that he would certainly be a useful player to have and his versatility would be welcome in a tournament squad.
Went off on 7 minutes v Newcastle with an injury to his left ankle
only lasted 7 minutes at Newcastle, substituted with an ankle injury
Steven Reid out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.
Steven Reid injured.. What's the world coming to?

made his comeback for West Brom in a reserve game against Norwich at the weekend: http://www.wba.co.uk/news/article/al...-0-481140.aspx
played in midfield, lasted just over an hour
Bradley Garmston played as well, one of his crosses was handled which led to a penalty, another was headed just over by Reid and a third was converted for the final goal of the game
Reid on the bench today against Chelsea
Starts today against Stoke
Daniel Fox tried to "do" Steven Reid yesterday in West Brom's 3-0 win over Southampton. Absolutely criminal. Steven Reid has battled back from so many knee injuries over the years. The tackle was downright criminal, one of the worst you'll ever see. What Suarez did last weekend was terrible but this was a million times worse and Fox will only get a three game ban.
It was a shocking tackle alright.
Just watched it.
Disgraceful tackle!
How old is Reidy now? He seems to be doing a bit of writing, think I saw him doing a piece in the Indo around the time of the double header last month. He's definitely a useful player still. Wouldn't mind him coming back in the least.
No Reids are welcome in the Irish squad at the moment
Playing in midfield this afternoon, according to Sky Sports News.
Leaving West Brom; keen to continue playing.

Plenty of PL and Championship interest in Reid.
