First game in Tolka in 99 was full but it dropped to about 4000 or 5000 for the second replay...

There was a league cup or setanta cup final in tallaght not too many years ago between rovers and dundalk. Just 2 stands back then, but dundalk couldn't sell their allocation for the main stand and rovers ended up with tickets for the 2 sections nearest the car park
I think for our first fai cup final in 2001, I think there was 8k fans at it as far as I can remember.
An FAI Cup final at Tallaght is bad for the league and, should Rovers reach it, an unfair advantage for us. I'd oppose it at all levels.
I wouldnt want the Cup Final in Tallaght simply as the game should be in the National Stadium. But if it were Dundalk in the final again v Rovers, I dont think it is a major advantage especially if the dressing rooms get changed up. Some of our best performances against Rovers and in Europe were in Tallaght so it has become a bit of home away from home. Its kinda hard not to consider Dundalk not being in the final. If both teams avoid eachother and reach the final we ccan have the Presidents Trophy awarded also. By then maybe things will be in a better position to be able to stick with the AVIVA.
Has there been anything official about it being in Tallaght ? It really would seem silly.
For me personally I wouldnt oppose having the FAI cup final in Tallaght only if the two teams were country sides and werent well supported and then move it to the Aviva ie like with Sligo Rovers -Shamrock Rovers if it sells out well! I
Extra.ie FAI Cup draw:
Finn Harps v St Patrick's Athletic
Dundalk v Waterford
Cork City v Longford Town
Byes: Derry City, Cabinteely, Shelbourne, Bray Wanderers, Sligo Rovers, Wexford, Shamrock Rovers, Athlone Town, UCD, Galway United, Cobh Ramblers, Bohemians, Drogheda United.
Another shambles of a draw from the FAI. Just when you think they're starting to turn a corner and do some good, they come up with nonsense like that.
Waiting 4 months for football to restart in the LOI, and we get a 5 minute conversation with Jim Crawford about the under-21 international team, beginning with "I never really liked the FAI Cup".
Barely audible, filmed on a phone, and a totally amateur production.
Not to mention drawing 13 byes instead of just doing a second round draw.
You know what'll look well?
FAI streams of matches.
Or maybe not...
Heard game for us will be played when league season ends. If thats the case its a ****ing joke.
Only way to have an even number and from last 16 stage, also with one round less this year for most clubs, it was the only way it could be done. This way the winners of the 3 games will join the 13 sides who got byes.
We will have Waterford at home twice within 4 days.
Thank God Dundalk got that extra game. One game closer to the amount of games their squad is designed for ;)
What a relief to get through tonight. We do love a last minute goal in the cup. We were abysmal as per usual and was dreading penalties. Dinanga pops up with a brilliant goal to win it.
FAI CUP, SECOND ROUND DRAW
UCD v Sligo Rovers
Bray Wanderers v Finn Harps
Bohemians v Cabinteely
Shamrock Rovers v Cork City
Drogheda United v Derry City
Athlone Town v Wexford
Cobh Ramblers v Dundalk
Galway United v Shelbourne
No stand out tie in terms of rivalries, I guess Rovers v Cork would have to be the pick of the bunch there being the only all Premier match up, although should be relatively straightforward.
Hopefully some big guns take each other out in the next round to clear a pathway to the final. :-)
*Puts on predictions hat*
UCD
Bray
Bohs
Rovers
Derry
Athlone
Dundalk
Galway
You have a high opinion of the bottom half of the premier league!
I'd rather Cork away than Cobh.
Beaten there 2 years ago and struggled to get past them last year. Tricky draw, especially in our current form. A couple of the newbies might not fancy it in Cobh. Hopefully it's on WatchLOI.
Could have been worse, but Bray is a potential banana skin for Harps. Tricky place to go at the best of times, they've a decent squad there this year and will be well up for it.
Athlone v Wexford, Bray v Harps and UCD v Sligo NOT on WatchLOI.
The rest are, which is good.
It wouldnt have made a difference to me as I subscribed to Galway Utd TV feed for the night anyway!
Friday 28th
Athlone v Wexford 19:45
Galway v Shels 19:45
Saturday 29th
Drogheda v Derry 17:00
Bray v Finn Harps 19:45
Sunday 30th
Cobh v Dundalk 17:00
UCD v Sligo 19:45
Monday 31st
Shamrock Rovers v Cork 17:45
Bohemians v Cabo 19:45
UCD v Sligo is on WatchLoI. Presumably Rovers v Cork too. Not sure about the other games involving FD teams
The Cobh Dundalk game is on WatchLoi. I’m guessing it’ll have a high audience just to see the drama on the sidelines.
I never twigged the Cup games would be on LOITV. Not sure why, I just assumed it would be League games.
Awww, that was my 2000 post. Not sure what is sadder. That it took me that long to get to 2000 or that I’ve been posting on this site for 17 years!!!
No spectators at games but Dundalk management team at Drogs v Derry FAI Cup game ?
