we will be in there supporting ye anyway, dont concede early and ye can frustrate them,
I think Martin O'Brien is a great ref but I hate when we have him against Avenue. I don't think Bunratty lack bottle, far from it. Sometimes however they may lack leadership when things are not going their way. All teams need their leaders and Avenue without David Russell and Brendan Rochford could be accused at times of lacking those qualities also.
I was not there last Sunday so I cannot comment on the penalty (or lack of one). I will say though that Martin O'Brien is one of the best referee's around and I cant say he ever favours Avenue. Good ref doing the lg game Sunday too so lets hope we are not talking about his decisions after Sunday.
I will say though that the player that was penalised for the penalty is imo targted by referees. He has built up a rep and seems to be getting punished more than seems fair. I will admit he has been out of order at times in the past but its harsh to see him punished like he is.
I'd be surprised to see Rineanna get a win in the Fairgreen (limerick) but they can def make a game of it. Some experience mixed with youth in the team and best of luck to them. Keep the Clare flag flying...
he has built up a rep... !! usually only get those by constantly getting into trouble with ref's.. so a lot of it would be his own fault :p but it is not right though that ref's keep targeting him if this is correct but unfortunatly
it is because of his rep he may be getting punished now ..
we all know now on opposing team / who to wind up / who not to wind up / who to give the hard tackle to early in games / who's tackles to avoid . same with refs .. certain ref's you can get away with a lot of fouls even mouth off but then other refs you cant even tackle or open your mouth : :ball:
well if certain players on some teams are targeted by refs then they wont get anything easy next sunday with mr sutton ( who is in my opinion the best ref in clare!), he is extremely fair and unbiased so it should be a good game

it looks like a 2 horse race but i see all these teams dropping points before season ends so it just depends on who drops to who.

here we go again. same all crack. people on here pretenting to be avenue and stirring up peope the wrong way. did u see all the avenue players jumping and shouting their mouth off no because we have won nothing yet and we were in the same situation last year and were potless. a lot of games to be played in league and cup and if nwkt, lifford or bridge go unbeaten they will be up there. we have a healthy rapport with nwkt and you don't need start playing games to wind nwkt up because avenue v nwkt are always cup games and form goes out the window. and we will go for a pint regardless of score with them guts and all
is this same ref who didn't give avenue peno in rineanna with game at 0 0 and who didn't give peno for burren v bunratty for handball in box???? top three refs are sutton, o'brien and murray. oh and brosnan....
my opinion it was a peno. bunratty got lucky last year in 2-2 cup game with avenue denied a peno in that game.
so all those boys pretending to be avenue please refrain from off the field tatics and let the players do the talking please
I agree with you Clifford, how low can some of these guys stoop, pretty low by the looks of it. Remember last year when New Celtic won the league what were their strong points a. fitness b. discipline (would you believe it, actually, I heard one of the best disciplinary records in the league last year). They won the League last year only losing 1 game, their last match didn't matter V Avenue. Bunratty are in that position this year & could even pass the 42 points it was won on last year. That is what cost them the Cup match last Sun, they were lacking that extra edge they have had in the league so far. It'll be back this Sunday, watch this space.
i am really disappointed with the comments about martin O brien. he been an ex lifford player i remember him sending off a lifford player with a straight red a few years back down in sixmilebridge. he was not far inside our half when the incident happened and got a straight red for been last man although this was technically true there were 2 other players in close vicinity. to be honest i never liked when he reffed lifford matches as i thought he favoured the other teams so not to show his past... but all in all he is an excellent ref who keeps up with the play, doesnt take much shyte fom players and tries to let the game run.
as for the league
I can remember a few years back we had the exact same record as bunratty at the half way point in the season and then lost it on the last day of the season when we drew against newmarket and avenue lay down and let the bridge beat them easily...there is a long way to go in the league and lots can happen. my money is on avenue(much as i hate to say it). but still i wouldnt rule out any team in the top half... not just yet
plastic: explain ur hatred of avenue
jealousy ? history? or no reason?
arivart : and the point about newmarket only losing one game last yr( cos the last game didnt count???) it does count, they lost 2, im not making the point cos they lost to avenue, its just facts.( they deserved to win the league, they were the best team, before accuses me of being bitter.) so enough of the silly talk
PP, ye have nobody but yourselves to blame for losing that title. Newmarket were down to the bare bones against ye and ye couldn't find a winner.
If i remember rightly Avenue were not mathematically out of it either that day so why would they lie down.
Post by Rounders in April 2006 following Bridge Utds draw with Cratloe
Cratloes surprise result has kept things very interesting - Lifford are obvious favourites and will probably win easy but stranger things have happened. Heres my take on it:
1. If Lifford beat Newmarket - Lifford win league
2. If Bridge Utd beat Avenue and Lifford draw/loose - Bridge Utd win League
now it gets complicated......
3. For Newtown to win the league or get into a playoff they must beat Bridge Celtic, Lifford must draw/loose and Bridge Utd must draw/loose
4. For Avenue to win the League or get into a playoff they must beat Bridge Utd and Lifford must draw/loose
5. For Rineanna to get into a playoff to win the league they must beat Mountshannon, Lifford must loose, Bridge Utd and Avenue must draw and Newtown must draw/loose.
Roll on Super Sunday and Come on Rineanna!!!
I think it's very unfair what is being said about Martin O'Brien on this recently. He's one of the best referee's we have in the Clare league, if not the best. I've always found him to be a fair ref. Of course he does make mistakes like anyone but he has always tried (in my opinion) to treat each team the same.
By the way, Best of luck to both Bridge United teams on Sunday. It should be one hell of a game. Too close to call I think.
[QUOTE=avenueC;1107592]plastic: explain ur hatred of avenue
jealousy ? history? or no reason?
hatred??? think u picked me up wrong there aveC. don't have any think but respect for avenue.am friends with a few of the team and an admission that i see them as favourites for the league is a bitter pill to swallow... i would call that a healthy rivalry not a hatred
[QUOTE=Prem Rep!;1107636]PP, ye have nobody but yourselves to blame for losing that title. Newmarket were down to the bare bones against ye and ye couldn't find a winner.

Prem Rep, where did you pull that post from?? all i can remember is that a win for us and we would win.... however newmarket needed a point to insure that they were not in the relegation playoff... so they had everything to play for,
and i can assure you they fought that day like their lives depended on it... i'm sure you heard all about it when they joined ye down in the bridge that afternoon
as for avenue laying down i think the lack of avenue responses says it all. i think they had a lot of injuries and suspensions at the time and realistically knew they had no chance going to the bridge and getting a win
Ha ha, foot.ie has a serious archive when you google it. I was surprised myself to find it, But believe it or not 5 teams were in with a shout going into the final day. A few of the Newmarket boys came down to join the celebrations and what better place to be on the day that was in it. We did the same last year when they won the league.
[QUOTE=plasticpitch;1107931]are you mad??????????????????????????? avenue lie down and let bridge win??
down in their home patch we had a chance to win league please don't insult avenue or true soccer heads on this forum. having to watch them lift the cup was hard enough but having to take the abuse as well no thanks. lifford had it in their own hands and shouldn't have been looking for favours from avenue. last year was how true ethics of soccer in clare should be. nwkt got league in lees rd v avenue. both teams showed great respect for each on day and a lot of avenue lads went out with them in celebration as well. and as for lack of avenue response i suppos its hard to get a true avenue response when their is so few real avenue on this forum.
i'l second these comments on martin and best luck to rineanna
i think the quicker league bring in zero tolerance for refs the better it will be. should take a leaf out of rugby refs moving frees forward for backtalk etc it wouldn't take long to get better respect for refs (me included) the schoolboys should be targeted now so they grow up with it and easier to bring forward.
AvenuC: you picked me up wrong Nwm won the league losing only one game,as they had it won before they played Avenue.Yes for the records they lost 2 in their league campaign.
I'll third these comments on martin and best luck to rineanna also.
I think players attitudes in Clare stink when it comes to referees. They have no respect for them no matter how right or wrong the refs are.(yes there are refs who should not be allowed near a pitch, but if they were not we would have no games)
The worst thing of all is the verbal abuse they give the refs & we all wonder why it happens in schoolboy soccer. The players are the teachers.
Referees make mistakes week in week out,but if some one picked one player for 90 mins & counted the mistakes he made, the refs would have the last laugh.
lads can we cut the crap...................................... .............................. again someone thinks the people on this forum are idiots.you don't win or lose games just because of guts. must let the players do the talking on the field. both teams and management would hold their hands up and say both teams are good. you win some you lose some.
cop on with the mind games lads or i might just have to log in as bunrattyc or lifford1688.
My apologies Cliff, was just making a point, good to see someone talking sense. Games between Bunratty and Avenue are always tough, fair and tight games and im sure sunday will be no different. Unfortunatley the ref's(and guts:D) can have a big say in the outcome of these games. I do think that Martin got the penalty decision wrong last sunday(the dragging was 50/50 and started well outside the box) but I dont believe it was because he's from ennis. I also agree that M o'Brien and P. Sutton are by far the best and fairest refs in Clare. Best of luck to Rineanna on sunday aswell.
Any word on how Rineanna got on today?
hacker what's the story you posted this on munster junior thread " how should it have been ten you fool..ya ye had chances but ye didn't take them..we had the 2 best chances and we didn't take them..story of football..give credit where its due we gave ye a good game and while ye did deserve to win it wasn't as easy as some on here predicted..to the genuine fairview lads on here we wish ye the best of luck in the competition... "
were you at the same match :D:D
No need to be getting wound up there hacker, I'm sure vidic-class was only joking with you. After all you were the man that said it was great to see the banter back on this forum last week when it was Bunratty and Avenue on here. Ye gave them good rattle but ye really could/should have been beaten by a few more. The Clare Cup 3rd Round Draw should be interesting on Friday
Good win for Avenue yesterday against Bunratty. Rats seem to be in a bit of a rut at the moment. Lg is in Avenues hand now but still a long way to go. I'm sure there will be more twists and turns.
Bunratty dominated possesion yesterday but did not create enough chances. Avenue were more clinical and took their 2 goals well. Bunratty scored and og for the Avenue 2nd goal and it was a killer blow.

Approaching the half way mark in the season have the title destinations already been settled or at most remain a two horse race?
