Shannon Town 1 Fairview B 3
Have been debating whether to write anything on thise since i got back, my blood is still boiling but ill try and keep it civil.
The Ref showed up 15 minutes late and berated out manager because he(the ref) didn''t know where the pitch was, said he had been driving around Shannon for half an hour, made it clear while berating our manger that he wasn't going to give us anything.
13 minutes in he sends off our left winger...straight red for saying "f*ck sake", Now i know cursing is frowned upon, but if your going to send anyone who used a profanity off, well then we all know there would be no one left on the field. So now he misses three games for nothing.
Fairview Centre Half told our striker that the ref had told them that he was going to give us nothing and if they went down in the box he would give them a Pen.
Now i know this is hearsay but i'd love to know if there s a fairview player on here who could corroborate that story, because if its true its a disgrace.
To be fair to the Fairview players they didn't make a meal of anything and played the game the way it should be played.
Their second goal came straight from a free kick that wasn't a free kick and if it was it should have been ours.
All this because, HE showed up late...we have played every home game this season at Lynch park and havent had a single issue with any other Ref.
Anyway rant over.

First of all the ref was'nt the only one that was driving around shannon for half an hour looking for the pitch the whole view team were the same. There was around 20-25 mins gone when ref sent the player off and he told the ref to f*** off no matter what you say you cant talk to a ref in that manner the player is playing long enough to know this. And on the whole issue about the ref telling one or our lads that he'd give us a pen if we went down in the box is nonsense,Kevin O' Driscoll is reffing the game a long time now and i dont think he would ever make a comment like that or any ref for that matter. Its easy blame the ref when you lose a game. About the game itself i thought it was a good game both teams played nice football at times and the first goal was a cracker the second was afree kick whipped in with pace crying out for someone to tap it in but it somehow missed everyone and found its way into the bottom corner.2 nil h-t . Second half was even enough both teams goin close and with 20 to go shannon pulled one back deservedly as the way they played it did'nt look like they had 10 men. Shortly after it was 3-1 cool finish after some good passing. We had a man sent off with 10 to go after a second yellow but we held out for a good win. Eight of that view team tonight were under 19s.
for a team many said would not exist fairview b look like they will hold their own in this division.
Shannon Hibs 1-1 Mungret Reg
First points on the road for us this season. A good game played on a decent pitch. We started the brighter and won a pen after about 20 mins which Des O Donoghue tucked away. 1-0HT. The second half saw Shannon come at us & also won and scored a pen with about 20 mins left. Shannon will probably feel they could of got 3 points as they had the majority of the possession in the 2nd half, in saying that I thought we actually had the better of the chances - missing 2 (if not 3) great chances. All in all we were happy to get a point in the end. Looking at the table we have all top 4 played away from home already - not sure if that means anything so early but at least there out of the way I suppose! Best of luck to Shannon Hibs.
It's about a 2mins drive.. It's beside the crossroads pub... I was there as a neutral last night watched abit of the first half .. And in my opinion from what I saw and heard the Ref had a shocker.. The sending off was not justified in my opinion ...fair enough if you use that phrase "F off " you should get a talking too and maybe a yellow but to give a good young lad a red was a joke and refs like that are not needed in football.. Saying that fairview B played nice football and when leaving I knew they were going to win it.
Also there was no way Shannon town can be held responsible for the Ref or other team
Not being there on time.. It only takes a phone call or even just to roll down your window to find out where pitch is..
I agree you can't speak to Ref like that but it was more of a "f off " you can't be serious than a personal one.. Don't tell me you never heard lads saying that out of frustration when a decision goes against them..and I'd safely say I've never seen a lad sent off so early in a match for it.. Terrible refereeing
Quick questions to you all.
The keeper has the ball in his hand and is about to kick it down the pitch. Just before he does, a player on the opposite team is running back out of the box and is kicked from behind by a defender, player goes down. Ref see's it and stops play, goes to defender and books him for the kick on the opposing player. This is surely a penalty.?????
The kick on the player happened around the 6 yard box area.... The Ref brings the ball to the edge of the penalty box and says its a hop ball, he drops the ball to the keeper and says play on........ No player from the other team is aloud compete in the hop ball..?????????
And to finish , Ref and subs practice shooting and heading at half time, the Ref had one good header that hit the bar in fairness......... A bit of Professionalism and respect a small bit of cop on wouldn't go astray on the Ref part.....
If anything it definitely would not be a penalty, the keeper had the ball in his hands so the most it could have been was an indiredt freekick thats all
I thought the ref had a good game, he missed a couple of things overall which affected both teams but that happens every ref in every match so cant fault him there.
Overall a draw was a fair result shannon may have controlled possession for times during the match but mungret had their chances to 2 up and even after the equaliser had a couople of chances to score again.
So Dallas what your saying is if the keeper has the ball in his hands anything goes.. What a load of crap.. If the Ref sees a player kicking another player it's a straight red and a free kick... If that free kick is inside the box it's a penalty.. Don't try defend the Ref he got it wrong
Agree with the above...if the ref saw then its a pen all day
I'm not trying to hammers Refs just thought that some of the actions from the Ref i saw last night were uncalled for.
The half time display was what took the biscuit, really really bad form.
Again, was a good game with some good football played. Surprised Mungert/Regional are on the lower half of the table.
Infairness the only thing worse than kicking or striking a player is spitting on a player.. So has to be a penalty... Indirect frees are given for unintentional ( accidental ) fouls ... But if you kick someone up the arse I'm fairly sure you know what your doing it's a red card simple as..
100% PEN
Copyied from FIFA webpage
A direct free kick offence occurs when a player commits any of the following in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force:
Or commits (one of) the following offences:
- Kicking or attempting to kick an opponent
- Tripping or attempting to trip an opponent
- Jumping at an opponent
- Charging an opponent
- Striking or attempting to strike an opponent
- Pushing an opponent
- Tackling an opponent
If a direct free kick offence occurs within a team's own penalty area it becomes punishable by a penalty kick, irrespective of the position of the ball, provided the ball was in play.
- Holding an opponent
- Spitting at an opponent
- Handling the ball deliberately (except for the goalkeeper within his own penalty area).
The above incident is a penalty and a red card.
the only factor the ball in the keepers hand has on it, is that the ball was in play. If the ball was not in play (throw/corner/free or keeper preparing to take a kick out) then it would not have been a penalty, but just a red card. so with the ball in play, the awarding for the foul is decided on where the incident takes place. Therefore striking an oppontent is foul play in the box = penalty and red card.
i shud have waited writing my response, if i had know your depth of research.....
Any rule on the ref having kick about with the subs at half time. ha ha.
Anyway, thats my question answered thanks, should have been a peno, red card and NOT a hop ball to be unchallenged.
Ref that doesn't know the rules or makes them up has no place in the game. Simple as.

The part about the centre half telling the striker that the ref would give ye nothing is absolute rubbish. I was one of the centre halves, spoke to the other two, and that is absolute bullsh*t. Do you honestly think a referee would tell a player on a team that?! Complete lies.
The free kick you're on about was debatable.... I agree. But there were a few others that could have been given as well.
In relation to the red card, I didnt actually see what happened to be honest. But the linesman coming on and pushing the ref, and threatening him with the flag was shocking. If what I heard is true, then it shouldnt have been a straight red. But the way some of yer players reacted later in the game with bad challenges could have warranted two or three red cards. Some terrible tackles went in.
No mention of the referee giving our player a second yellow for absolute nothing. Two players mouthing at each other, and he gives our player a second yellow. Disgraceful.
It's a pity the game ended like that because aside from the terrible behaviour of yer touchline, ye played some very good one touch football with 10 men. And yer 2 centre halves are very solid.
Good result for the View considering they were missing a good few regulars.
