Cork City Examinership

So the FAI have the power to do nothing or to throw them out fo the league ?

I hate the rules in this league, really are a mess. The FAI are never consistant. Examinership is a process and should carry a fixed punishment.

I guess you have to pray that you don't break the rules during the close season like Shels!

Be interesting to see what the FAI do here. Maybe they will delay the call so long that it will be the close season. They don't have the balls to make decisions so I'm not expecting anything in a hurry.

I would be surprised if the FAI could have kicked you out of the league considering they did not run it 5 years ago.

If Cork have been breaking the salary cap for the entire season should they not be deducted all their points, and any subsequent points, until they are under 65%. Same for all the other clubs that have gone through it, whatever period they were over the 65% they lose the points they won for said period

Looking at that they could be done under the first two bullet points too?

With 65% FAI cant deduct points durning the season for breaches as if they deduct points now from a club for being over 65%, what happens if club are still over 65% in 2 monts time will the deduct points of the club again, so this will be done at of season.
The 65% rule will work its year 1 so clubs were allowed submit their own budget at start of season, but from next season clubs will not be allowed to do this, they will have to use actual income 08 for budget 09 unless they can prove to FAI the will have extra income (ie seanta cup for frist time etc)

Im sure FAI will be mointoring the cork situation,and they will get punished under FAI rules.

I heard Cork gave the FAI a promise that they will be able operate till end of season and they have plans to operate on a reduced budget for next season onwards

But by not punishing sides who have broken the wage cap are you not punishing sides you have worked within it's limits. Take this for an example (although I hear Galway didn't break it, only came close, but bear with me)

If Galway had operated the season in breach of the salary agreement, and gained a total of 40 points in this period, while UCD operated at 60% of their total budget but only gained a total of 38 points and were then relegated, would that not be unfair on UCD for having their house in order in the very first season of the wage cap?

In that situation, the FAI would surely deduct points from/relegate Galway at the end of the season for breaking the wage cap and UCD would stay up. I don't see a problem with this. My understanding is that the wage cap operates for the season as a whole. It would seem a bit harsh to punish clubs if they run over 65% in one month while being compliant for the year overall.

From what I herard some clubs have broken it (dont know names of clubs),FAI have informed clubs that if they dont get back under 65% rule by end of season they will l be relegated automaticaly for knowing breaking the rule, but they still face loosing any Prize money from the league and a points deduction for braking the rule in first place

That seems fair if the FAI go that course alright, I just have a worry that the FAI will wash their hands of the whole situation and not hand out any punishments, which would send out the wrong message entirely in my opinion

They have to enforce it, If they dont 65% rule will not work and its a waste of time, some clubs will ingnore it and overspend and could go out of business, and the league will still be in a mess in 5 years

how much did mooney go for?

It was reported to be around €250,000.

To go even further I think the 65% is too much for some clubs. I think we should have scaled structures that for clubs with the most debts would have a e.g 50% for clubs with high debts.
Clubs need to start to learn to stand on their own two feet and not expect goodwill of people to bail them out. Irish football is awash with clubs needing/begging money to get by on a daily basis where economic sense says that you spend what you take in and set a little aside for a rainy day.
I would like to see the 65% even to include the admin expenses also

I think the rules should be more clear though i.e. specified punishment for things like this be that points deduction/relegation or other.

Why not? Cork have broken the rules and the FAI should come down on them, simple as that really, if it involves relegating the team then so be it, it will serve as a warning to Cork and every other club that they can't break rules set up to help them in the first place.

I agree with micls though, after this incident the FAI should set out clear punishments in their rulebook for this type of incident

This season is being called the Cork City humiliates the country again league!!!

Yeah go on laugh.
Everyone else is laughing at Irish soccer. How poorly equipped it is? How no one in control of the top clubs has the balls to say to supporters to have realistic expectations. Give more of the begruders of the league more ammunition to knock us down with. CCFC talk about maybe making group stages of UEFA cup and you can't even beat a finnish side.
CCFC have got themselves into this mess which takes away all the good things that some other clubs are doing.

Will Cork be the biggest club in the league if you go in to receivership?

BTW what is cork going to rebrand itself as next? There's been Alberts, Celtic, Hibs, (soon to be defunct) City, Athletic, Fordsons. Will it be Cork Ramblers, Langers, bankrupts

If City go down, you will could have a first division of:

Cork City
Galway Utd
Waterford Utd
Limerick 37
Cobh Ramblers
Shelbourne

That would be class. A lot of Munster teams. Galway - another great away trip. And old rivals Shelbourne.

The Premier would be full of Dublin clubs and its crappy suburbs like drogheda, dundalk and Bray.

First division could be where its at next year. :D
