Interesting that the stats from the game - 83% possession for Liverpool; 8 shots v 2 - don't really tie in with passinginterest's posts. Football is a strange game at times; is there any other sport really where you could see so little of the ball and yet be creating problems all the same? A rugby game with those possession stats would be an easy win for example.
It’s a strange game. Liverpool have their usual mad high line and they’re owning the ball but creating little. Shrewsbury have only had the ball in the Liverpool box maybe five or six times from crosses, but it looks dangerous every time. Kelleher has dealt well with a cross and a short back pass so far in the second half.
Thats why we all love the football as unpredictable as hell
Usual assuredness on the ball in this half and he’s had to deal with at least one more dangerous cross. Game is still in the balance, he might have a big moment or two before the end the way it’s going.
It's because football is low scoring. You can have lots of possession and lots of chances, but don't score and the other crowd do from a corner and you're losing 0-1 all the same. Same surprise score by the weaker team in rugby just means it's now 21-7 or whatever.Quote:

Yes was lucky. Overall he did fine. If only he played more games, then he wouldn’t be under the microscope so much with everyone nitpicking at everything! The concerning thing is that it would only take a couple of clangers like the one he almost had to end his Anfield career as he doesn’t exactly have much currency built up. Thats the life of a goalkeeper. That’s why I would much prefer him to be playing first team football anywhere for the rest of the season

Edit - mypost deleted his comment complaining that people are commenting on a mistake Kelleher made, comparing it to Bazunu whose mistakes regularly (very regularly?) cost his club games. Something not grounded in fact and totally petty.
General consensus is that both are playing very well.
Every goalkeeper makes mistakes, and are often highlighted by the result of a game. Bazunu's kept clean sheets in five of his last eight games. Can you provide evidence of what led to the goals in the other three?Quote:

Yeah, I think the main problem is the lack of any engagement with the discussion. So "When he loses possession, it's in the net" simply isn't true, as has already been pointed out. But it gets regurgitated here again.
I think most of us, even when our views differ on players (and they will differ of course) at least engage with the points made by others and that's what leads to interesting discussion. But mypost bypasses all that and lives in his own little world of half-truths and dodgy facts

Bazunu looks like he's of a bigger build. He's got really big shoulders on him.
Context was "filling the goal" though. Bazunu has made some big 1-on-1 saves for us. Travers made a good one in Belgrade. I haven't really seen what Kelleher is capable of here. The goal he conceded at Chelsea was in a situation that very much favoured the attacker.
Just on that Chelsea goal, and not saying he should be doing better, but his stance is narrow - knees locked together, hands low down - giving the attacker more of the goals to shoot at. I think Bazunu and Travers would have a different body shape, fill out the goals more :-), in the same situation.
Edit. Bazunu had a somewhat similar one on one situation to Kelleher in the home game against Azerbaijan to stop them going 2 up. Bazunu makes himself bigger compared to Kelleher - his legs are spread (save ultimately made with his foot) and his anticipation stance is more bulked.

If Kelleher races out of the goal, he gets lobbed. If he doesn't lock his knees, the shot goes through his legs. Either way, it's still a goal. It was a quality goal by a quality player at the highest level of club football in England. There was little Kelleher could have done to prevent it, so other more experienced teammates were largely held responsible.Quote:
