Quotes from McCarthy far less firm than the stories circulating yesterday.
Yea a bit early to be counting chickens methinks.
He has had 5 months to "think" about it and now he has another 3 months. I wish he would take his stones out of his agent purse and just decide
He doesn't really have 3 more months to think about it. He needs to begin the process of switching if he's going with England.
His stock has never been higher - he'd be on the cusp of an England call-up in March if he continues his progression.
I think we'll get a decision in the first few weeks in January.
Has just signed a contract until summer 2024. Very interesting timing given recent talks with McCarthy and that if he were switching to England in time for Match he would want to do it now. Hopefully there's some news in the next few days.
Not trying to deny the report but if it was roles reversed and it was McCarthy is hopeful than we would be dismissing the article as fake news and click bait...just saying. These reports do seem more like 2 & 2 being put together and hoping to get a 4, what the deal to me concludes is his decision has been made and no more than that. Not saying he isnt going to play for England but not saying he will either until genuine quote come out.
How John Fallon is earning a living as a journalist penning self-contradictory dross every chance he gets is beyond me.
I would pay a grand to slap Declan Rice across the face. Yes or No declan, Yes or No.
No more thinking or talking or meetings its Yes or No
I can't say I am optimistic. I'd like to be wrong but I think the writing is on the wall, or rather not on the wall, at least not in our wall. I feel it in my bones.
Jonathan Walters was commenting on man city - Liverpool last night, and had this to say about Declan Rice after the game
To me, it sounds like either he knows something but can't say it, or he doesn't know anything but doesn't want to admit it
I don't particularly like the Indo as a rule. However I was communicating with someone in the Irish media who would be considered to be very straight, middle-of-the-road, who has stood up for Fallon, and how he is quite well-informed, but perhaps there are others involved in the Indo who are putting pressure on this story without having the necessary backup, and are using other avenues to exploit it. Why I'm not sure, but that's what I was told anyway.
Another assured performance from Rice today, by all accounts.
In one sense it's a pity he's providing these sorts of displays so regularly and so soon, as without them he would've gone under the radar for a while longer which would've been to our benefit. But...there you go.
Just notice his birthday is coming up, he's 20 on the 14th
We might hear something then.

Actually it does sound like his name especially if you sing in a Chinese accent.

Hopefully if he misses Ronan so much he is going to arrange a get together in March.
Do you think Declan is beset by some good old fashioned Irish procrastinationon about this lingering question? If so, is that in our favour?

Ah yes the "Evening standard" the man is so going to England its not even funny. His treatment of the people of Ireland has been a disgrace, even this tactical article to break us in slowly to his defection
Does anyone who is not in John Of Gods now think he is staying?
The brother is mentioned there. O'Neill said "the brothers" wanted him to play for us. Not sure if that's his uncles or own brothers.
As a committed John of Gods member, I hold out hope and am still leaning more towards him staying with us.
For every ambiguous comment, there are equally ambiguous suggestions that he might be coming to us (Walters interview). I don't know, I don't hate him for how this has shaken down. He's young, he's good and he has had his head turned by Gareth Southgate, manager of the country of his birth and the birth of his parents.
The main criticism I have here is over the behavior of Southgate on this case (as well as what seems to be his or the FA's greedy modus operandi of handing out call ups and caps to borderline players with dual eligibility). If I was to place some blame at Rice's feet it would be over his failure to say no to Southgate when he tapped his shoulder. It would have been far easier to say "no thanks, I have made my decision - check out these lovely green caps" at that point than it is now.
It's a London paper; he's from London; he plays for a London club. Settle.
I have no problem whatsoever with players who have dual nationality weighing up their options, because they have de facto dual loyalties. My main problem is that a player can do so after playing for the senior team. The fact that these caps came in friendly internationals may matter under the FIFA rules, but they matter little to me on principle. That said, I still hope that Rice decides to remain with us.Quote:

It looks like we're going to find out one way or the other soon.
I was quietly confident that he would stay with us and that this was all dragged out due to his contract negotiations ( better deal if he was with England and so on)
But the comments he made in the interview regarding ambitions cant go unnoticed
"As for now, I want to play at the top level throughout my career. I want to win trophies, even the Champions League. You have to be ambitious. If not, what's the point?"
Contracts done , really no excuse now for the indecision. I believe his brother initially wanted him to play for England then apparently had a change of heart (read that somewhere from an O’Neil quote)
Quote:
"With regard to my international future, myself, my dad and my brother (Connor) have talked with Ireland coach Mick McCarthy and I’ve also spoken to Gareth Southgate.
Connor and Declan, his father must have very little influence. He'd have 3 more ireland caps by now anyway.
