Major disappointment this year for us. Was okay near the start, then had one or two injury problems (as per nearly the whole Dundalk team), then he was just plain awful. Seemed like he was way out of his depth. Couldn't pass a ball and contributed little else.Quote:

Courageous for me would be live within your means even if it displeases some of your fans and you can't attract the calibre of player the manager wants at the club. In fairness Sligo have been developing as a good club over the last few year and moving upwards in the league table. A major challenge for the league is the next step for them, hopefully they are going about it the right way.
I smell a Summer cash drive coming on.
Think I might wait and see the results of the AGM before running to panic stations just yet, who knows maybe we turned over another profit last season, again.
Not necessarily, for example, Sligo Rovers want to build a new stand. That costs money. There is no hand out from either local authorities - so it has to self-financed. If you had a benevolent landlord to build same, you retain your liquidity without nightmare of fund-raising your ambitions.Quote:

These are just of the considerations of running a club, its a balancing act.
So it is courageous or challenging etc to financially extend the club further.
But hopefully, a few of the 15K or so Sligo supporters who attended the Cup Final will continue to support home side.
You need to show a vision and confidence to progress.
What would you like going back to complete part-time set up, that's called regression.
I mean how many clubs, without pointing figures, either play crooked and go under the water, refuse to pay bills and/or have local authorities paying their way. Sligo certainly isn't one - ever.
So, whilst one or two here got a bit excited with word 'courageous' and there is a bit of spin in word usage -- having linked the article its obvious to see the journalist has given this description and not the Chairman or anyone associated with the club.
As was stated, the AGM will give an indication of finances. Considered steady upward curve over last 5 years, the club is hardly going gung-ho.
Shamrock Rovers provide a tidy profit? Rightly so, they are tenants.
Contrast that with the millions that would be required to build Tallaght etc and service the mortgage. Nah, let the Council build it and take full advantage. Yeah, that's real courageous.
It was hardly a hand-out. If the games hadn't have taken place in Tallaght, the council would have made no money. By building the stand, they got their usual rent plus a huge slice of UEFA money. If Rovers had owned the stadium, they'd have built the stand with prize money, as would Sligo if they reached that stage of the competition.Quote:

Well the ideal would be to buy Tallaght. If the club keeps developing on a sustainable basis, there'll be a point where the stadium is worth more to Rovers than it is to the council and a sale would be in both parties' interests.
I'd have thought the goal would be not to go belly up in the first place. Not sure how not owning a stadium would benefit, for instance, Bohs right now. It's all that's keeping the club afloat.Quote:

sssshhh. There's still many fans of certain clubs who hang onto the 'Rovers were handed a stadium' obsession. Don't ruin it. The 2 million that went into it before the Council came on board was obviously just a figment of the imagination of those of us who raised it.Quote:
