Final Score: LA Galaxy 1 Real Salt Lake 2
Opening goal tonight for Keane away at the San Jose Earthquakes (11/2 odds with Boylesports). The goal itself is a tap-in but he did make a good run from deep to get on the end of it.

LA Galaxy threw the lead away twice though and it finished 2-2.

ah ha ha ha 'an unidentified fan'. love it!
LA Galaxy won the first round of the playoffs 2-1 against the Vancouver Whitecaps tonight so Robbie Keane's season continues. Andy O'Brien had a good game at the back for Vancouver (including a bit of an argument with Robbie) but LA got two goals in the last 21 minutes to win it.
The Galaxy move on to play the San Jose Earthquakes in the next round on Sunday (two-legs at the last-eight stage).
Andy O'Brien was brilliant tonight, I have no idea why he is playing in such a crap league. He could easily play in the Championship at least from what I've seen of him since he started with the Whitecaps back in September. Vancouver is a lovely lovely city to live in but he's far too good for this kind of rubbish league.
Robbie was great tonight but it isn't hard to look good when you are playing against such terrible opposition. He had lots of little tricks and flicks that were leaving Whitecaps players for dead.
Why because somebody photoshopped a quote on to a genuine photo and then went viral in no time at all. Leading item on the John Murray show this morning. Just a hoax by the anti-Robbie brigade. Just can't understand why in Ireland "football fans" hate our leading scorer so much. Bizarre.
Genuine one here:

Are you not overreacting Owls?
I thought the photo with the inserted blurb was just humorous, not in itself a dig at our illustrious Robbie.
That was one hell of an overreation Owls! I'm a big Robbie fan but that was just funny. He actually does look like a wee lad after meeting his heroes which made it all the better. To be fair also, in a world wide celebrity sense, he is small news compared to Beckham and Russell Brand which makes the caption believable. I'm sure Robbie has more of a sense of humour about it.
He really is having a grand old time, who said he should have joined Leicester?!
Whilst it going viral was a bit bizarre, nobody went to the trouble of photoshopping a quote or anything? The photographer/caption editor (Lucy Nicholson) simply didn't put Robbies name on it, or didn't know who he was. No big deal.
Here is the original.

Much ado about nothing, I'm sure Robbie even had a chuckle about it.
The "fans" are actually Russell Brand's children. It is on Newstalk, Gift Grub this morning, the John Murray show, the Metro etc etc. I find the national delight in trying to make a fool of Keane annoying. If it has been O'Driscoll would it have made these programmes. Sure send the picture around a few friends and have a giggle if you like, but worth prime time on at least three different stations/newspapers? As I said bizarre. Can you imagine the BBC running with a story with Wayne Rooney being named as a fan in similar circumstances. It just wouldn't happen. I go to games and have listened to the abuse Keane gets even in his prime and I can/could never understand it. Is it something about him being a Dublin working class guy who has made a lot of money and being successful abroad? Three national broadcasters !
You do get around a fierce amount of media for an owl fella.
Sure he's up all night
It is just funny, nothing to do with Robbie personally. It would of been just as funny with Rooney, O'Driscoll or anyone else. I do appreciate what your saying about Robbie bashers though and I agree it is crazy. the fella has got 50 odd goals for us. Nobody will come near that for a long long time
It's a hoot!
(and i am a big Robbie Keane fan).
I've heard the name (Russell Brand) before, but unless I would do a search, I haven't a clue why he is 'famous'.
He'd be far more well-known than Robbie to be fair, in the States at least.
Robbie was just auditioning for a role in Brand's next film - Get Him to the Greeks.
Honestly I never got Russell Brand. He has a gigantic head. Like Barry Bond on steroids. Chelsea Handler kind of gave him a hard time in an interview once on her show about Sex Addiction. She was like...what keeps it from just being something you really like to do?
I dont really like Ricky Gervais either. And Piers Morgan has worse ratings than Full House reruns from the 80s so come to think of it those Limeys should keep their talent in the UK. Kate Winslet and her pale, Zaftig body an exception of course.
You're correct. I find it strange the difference in the way the national media handles both BOD and Keane, if somebody disrespected BOD I feel there'd be a national outcry and great offence would be taken. It's almost eyebrow raising if you praise Keane in this country, it's weird in the difference of their treatment given they're both two of our greatest professional sportsmen of all time. It's not just a media thing, a lot of actual sports fans in this country don't like Robbie Keane and I never understood why.
Ah Kate...*sigh*
You've no idea why he's playing in Vancouver for twice the pay instead of someplace like Barnsley?
MLS isn't bad, a much better technical league than the championship or even the EPL. Poor tactically and physically but it gives players a chance to express themselves in possession of the ball which is something our lads sorely miss. In a choice between the leagues it'd be great if our defensive players played in the EPL/championship and attacking players in the MLS. Although it'd be ideal if they played in neither and went to a top technical league but not too high a chance that any La Liga or Bundesliga teams would touch our players these days.
Well O'Brien is on $150k per year. What would he be earning if he stayed in England?
O'Dea - $330k.
Keane - $3m
Beckam - $3m
Donovan -$2.4m
Kris Boyd - $1.25m
Henry - $5m
Tim Cahill - $3.5m
I get your point and tend to agree with it. I reckon it's a snobby thing.
But comparing BOD --who plays a teeny, tiny (in the world scale) minority sport-- with a guy who has was around the top of a sport played by tens if not hundreds of millions around the world is bit strange. There is no comparison.
All of which just reinforces your point all the more....
I think people get a little carried away with the whole "everyone in Ireland hates Robbie Keane" thing... There's a very small percentage of Irish people who inexplicably dislike him and they're almost 100% muck savages who hate him cos he's a Dub. There are also a few who dislike his antics, the hand waving sh!t that he does. Its irritating. It's a very small percentage of people. He's overwhelmingly respected and liked by most rational, sane, educated people.
I can't say I hate Robbie Keane by any stretch of the imagination. I just think he's got too much of an ego, is an irritating tw*t, and is past his best by a long way.
There's a difference.
When does this ego thing manifest itself? He never struck me as being short of confidence, but in a good way. He's pretty much a model pro, most guys with huge egos tend to fall out with managers and others somewhere along the line.
The difference is, I can appreciate his qualities as a footballer. I can appreciate the amount of goals he's scored and how he's been a great servant to the country and to the jersey over the years.
I've cheered each and every one of his goals that I've seen.
But, it takes instances like him claiming Walters goal against the Faroes to make me dislike him more.
You have obviously never seen Big Brother's Big Mouth before, the show which first brought him to the attention of the public,
he's not the sort of person you can easily forget.

He also hosted the 2008 MTV Music awards where he made sure he he got noticed by amongst other things insulting Ronald Reagan.

I think I know why a lot of people are not keane (sorry) on Robbie. I reference the O'Driscoll comment (everyone loves BOD but hates Robbie) in brackets.
Here's a list:
1. He's inarticulate. Listen to him in interviews and it's a lot of football clichés and nothing of any real interest. (BOD - very articulate)
2. His goal celebration is ridiculous. In particular in 2002 when he scored V Saudi Arabia and his team-mates mobbed him - he was pushing them out of the way in order shoot an arrow at the camera.
(BOD scored a hat-trick V France in Paris and did a mysterious circle thing with his hands, that has been his most flamboyant try celebration)
3. He claimed Jon Walters goal when everyone and his mother could see he didn't touch it.
4. He doesn't seem to be a leader on the pitch. Who would you rather in the trenches with you? Robbie Keane or Richard Dunne? (or BOD?)
5. He moans a lot on the pitch. On more than one occasion I've seen him hit the deck and throw his hands in the air moaning at the ref instead of getting back up and attempting to win the ball back.
6. As a boy, he's dreamed of playing for every club he's ever played for. (BOD - Leinster)
7. People compare him (unfairly) to the other Keane who captained us. He was ferocious, aggressive and dragged us through games. He was often scathing in interviews of people not meeting his high standards and did not suffer fools. Robbie is a pussycat compared to him.
I like Robbie. I always have. I think he's been a World Class striker for us and would always have him on the team sheet. I also think he's got another three years left in him for Ireland. But these are some of the reasons i believe people dislike him.
Some of it is his own fault. Some of it not.
What I do know is that when he retires, nobody will dislike his goals record.
And nobody can ever deny his desire to pull on the green jersey
