Don’t take the bait lads. We’ve been asked to scale back the puns a few times now.
Leaps to the top of the "Irish in Britain" goalscoring charts by netting a hat trick away to Buckie Thistle in the League Cup.
Call him up Kenny!
It's going to be devastating for a few posters here when this lad retires. Just as well that Will Fish lad that got sent off today for Man United isn't Irish or we'd have another 10 years of it coming up.
He could go into coaching yet. I can't imagine him being a fish out of water there. Floundering about, as it were.
Agree, this thread is undermining the seriousness of the forum as a space for intelligent debate and exchange - this is not a plaice for levity.
Scaling the heights today with his sixth and seventh of the season
Up to eight now, already his best tally in a season since 2019/20, when he got 10 for Falkirk.
Call him up Trap!
Just seen him referred to on twitter (Rep of Ireland Player Tracker) as the Sammon of College :D :D gave me a good laugh!!
That's been his nickname for years!
Was a game against Cork in 2007 that he got dubbed that I think.
A brace yesterday and he's up to 13 for the season.
Leading Irish scorer in the English/Scottish leagues I think? Highest tally for a season since his breakthrough season at Kilmarnock, when he had 18 by this time (and then moved to Wigan in the Premier League)
He'll be farmed out to a better club if he keeps scoring
Nah. I think he likes being a big fish in a small pond.
Paging Pineapple Stu…
One last time maybe?
Mon the Sammo!
93rd minute winner to all but confirm Alloa's playoff spot. Sixteenth of the season; only McGoldrick at Derby has outscored him among the Irish players in Britain this season I think. Which says a lot about our forward options at the moment
Maybe, but he's no Sammo, that's for sure.

(Bonus points if you get the reference,)
It looks like Donnie Yen in the white, but I can't place it. Oh, and Sammo Hung in the black. His Martial Law series in the late 90s was probably the first time I watched a lot of kung fu.
I found the fight, but no context! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEBC_XL8HRk
Oh, it's Ip Man 2.
Sammon wasn't quite at the level we needed for Ireland, but he should be celebrated as a good example of someone staying in Ireland, finishing a proper education, and still achieving a good footballing career.
I find it bemusing that I was a UCD student for 7 years and had left for 3 years before his career even started and now he's 36.. this is depressing..
It also says a lot that my favourite season watching ucd was the year Derek Swan came in.:(
Sammon has had a very interesting career. If he wrote a book about it, I would buy it for sure.. niche audience perhaps..
Another two today; 18 for the season
Confirms their playoff space as well
Finishes with 19 for the season, his best ever tally in one season.
But no promotion after a playoff which rivalled Peterborough v Sheffield Wednesday and Notts County's two Conference ties for ups and downs. They'd beaten Hamilton 1-0 at home in the first leg - a good result as Alloa are mostly part-time (Sammo is one of 4/5 pros I think) and Hamilton are full-time. In the away leg, Sammon put them 1-0 up after five minutes, but they then had a defender go off injured - and his replacement went off injured ten minutes later. Then they had a defender sent off - all inside the first 25 minutes.
No bothers to them though - Sammo broke forward and was fouled one-on-one by the Hamilton keeper for a penalty. But the keeper saved the penalty, only for the taker to score the rebound, and Alloa were 3-0 up on aggregate after 30 minutes.
But by half-time, they were 4-3 down, including two goals in injury time. A fifth on 52 ended things, and Alloa remain in the third tier for another season.
Sammo is out of contract but hoping to stay on for another year.
We go again! :D
First of the new season in the League Cup this evening. Still at Alloa.
Ooh matron!
Scores away to Motherwell in the Scottish Cup 4th round.
