Any report from Tulla V Market game?Makes for an interesting league.
A bit of a surprise but Newmarket's run had to come to an end at some stage. Well done Tulla!
Great result for Avenue up in Lisdoonvarna. Never an easy place to go no matter how good or bad Burren are.
The league should be interesting this year
That referee has me heartbroken over those 6 mins extra time yesterday, was some joke. Sickening way to go out when we know we deserved to win the game. Fair play to the supporters aswell yesterday, was great to have the encouragement from the line.
Quick mention for Liam Murphy, Davy ryan, keith mcinerney, gerry kelly, john earls, owen Mccarthy and co. Liam has been an excellent manager for the side and has brought the standard of clare league team on alot in the first 6 months as manager. Can only see the county side gettibg stronger over the next couple of years
Well done to the clare team on Sunday it was a spirited performance and some good football played at times , on the extra time played I think the ref was trying to make up for his earlier blunder in not awarding the dubs the penalty when the clare lad clearly had his two hands up to stop the shot . That happened about five mins into the second half of extra time . He clearly knew he was wrong and decided to give the Dubs every chance to get the equaliser which is wrong as well as two wrongs do not make a right
Also clare league soccer has been on the up for a number of years the oscar traynor team has been getting to quarters, semis and even finals over the last ten years . To say that the standard has improved in the last six months is disrespecting a lot of good managers and a lot of good players who have given up a lot of their time to improve both the league and the oscar traynor set up
I would think Mastermind is referring to, as he says "the clare league team",the progress made from the first game against Limerick. In that time there has been a vast amount of progress and this was evident with each game they played. They were outstanding in Cork, footballers willing to look for the ball and pass it from back to front and not be afraid to do it. This is a big difference to the primarily long ball game employed by Clare teams over the past few years, teams that depended on fitness and grit rather than technical ability. The comparison between the side that lost to Wexford a few years ago and last Sundays squad is vast in footballing terms and game plan imo. This squad is better, looked to be more organised and all round better footballers. Confidence in their own ability and an understanding of was expected is evident in this Clare squad and the management had the balls to make the big calls that have needed to be made for awhile.
The progress made from the Limerick game to Sundays performance is great to see and I hope that it can be taken on again. The players, management and the committee deserve alot of credit for the progress and long may it continue. I have being saying for a long time that we have players in Clare that can compete with any players from any league and this I am more convinced of now after seeing the games against Cork and AUL. The league is improving and the players are getting better, there is no reason it shouldn't continue and come the day that no one wants to draw Clare.
Well done to everyone on Sunday it was a sickening defeat but I think it will be a spark to push the Clare league into the frame with the so called big leagues. If someone had arrived in on Sunday who knew nothing about the teams and was asked to point out the Junior internationals, I reckon they would have been pointing at most in the dark blue jersey's. Credit to all involved, I for one have enjoyed watching the football played this year more than any other for a long time. Keep up the good work.
Good luck to AUL, they got out of jail on Sunday but they played the game on it's merits.
So we just dismiss everything that went on the last 10 to 15 years in clare soccer and the oscar traynor set up because you with your expert eye have said so . As I say there is a lot of Clare footballers and managers that have put there heart and soul in to improving the Clare set up for the last 20 years . For you to claim these players and management had no idea what they were doing or had no technical ability well it just makes me laugh and is probably one of the most insulting posts I have ever read on this site .
I'll break it down in terms you will understand. You jumped all over Masterminds post when he say that "the Clare league team" had made great progress in the last 6 months. He nor I never suggested that progress hadn't taken place prior to this. Nobody was dismissing anything that went before nor should they as anyone involved in a team will know the work that goes on behind the scenes is immense, and should never be dismissed. But it can be judged and people can give an opinion, be it as a layman or as an expert as you so kindly refer to me as. I am no expert but I have eyes and can see, thank God. I never said the teams gone by didn't possess technical ability, that would be silly with players of the calibre of Daryl Eade, John Healy, Liam Murphy, Dave McCarthy from the team that lost to Wexford. The rest of the team imo is more about grit and fitness, players like Dave Russell who gave his all for Clare, different attributes but in my opinion last Sundays team are a more technically and tactically astute squad. Eoin O'Brien, Eoin Hayes, Colin Smyth, David McCarthy, David Reidy, Stephen Hickey, even my own brother and all the squad are more technical players than the players gone by. I see this as a progression, the football is better and the overall improvement from the Limerick game to last Sunday shows positive progression.
Agreed, never dismissed and have outlined my views above.Quote:

I never said they had no idea or had no technical ability, I have stated clearly that they were more about fitness and grit, granted with some players of technical ability. They deserve all the credit in the world for what they achieved but anyway I am glad I gave you a laugh and apologise if you felt insulted, I had no intention of insulting anyone but if you read Masterminds post carefully you would have understood what he was referring to and your posts wouldn't have needed to be so aggressive in their construction. You are obviously a person that cares about Clare football so you should applaud and acknowledge the progression made since the Limerick game.Quote:

Correct First, my initial post was solely aimed at the progress clare have made since the first group game against limerick. Apologies about the confusion there up the blues.
I have been part of the clare team for the past 6 years or so and lots of guys have put serious effort in over that period. Guys like Donal Mcgee, the late Hugh Kelly (RIP) John o Malley, Colm Ryan all had their own ideas with teams and how they set up. We had some great success along the way particularly in 2010 when reaching the final. However, I feel the squad this year was the best assembled and had the best mix of youth and experience. It has been the best organised with regular training sessions and a friendly against top opposition nearly every week against the likes of limerick u19s, limerick u20s, pike rovers, carew park, janesboro, salthill devon and others. The impact the manager and his colleagues have had on the squad was there for all to see, 20 players at nearly all training and games shows the work that was done. Its just a shame really it ended like it did but thats life. Hope this clears it up for anyone who thought I was having a go at past clare managers/players
Agreed, the man has an astute ability to organise, having had the pleasure of working with him (and arguing with him) over the last 2 years I can attest to the fact that nothing is left to chance, even the spelling on the match card. Add Davy to that and nothing is left to chance, I hope they are willing and are granted the opportunity to stay in place next year they will be good for Clare football, everyone will gain from it.
Ok, you are deeming it an insult on behalf of others. Hopefully "they" will read the posts in their true context and understand my viewpoint, that is all it is a viewpoint.
Now if you would be so kind as to acknowledge the fact that I have not said this as you put it, we can move on.I just want to be sure that if anyone is insulted they can attribute the correct statement to the correct poster.Quote:

Good question faceoff . There is the obvious 4 teams in Shannon. There is only 2 Clare lads I know of playing premier in town thats Okoru for pike and fyffe for corbally
hopefully crusher stays on its great to see commitment and organisation from a manager
-would any of last years oscar panel say they got the same last year ?
ok here goes originally posted by first " This is a big difference to the primarily long ball game employed by Clare teams over the past few years, teams that depended on fitness and grit rather than technical ability" no interest in getting into a big argument with you over junior soccer in clare but to me that statement is clear enough for all to see .
There isn't much point continuing the discussion if you can't see the difference between the statement I made and the accusation from you that I said the previous management had no idea, or the players had no technical ability. What I said and you have quoted is "This is a big difference to the primarily long ball game employed by Clare teams over the past few years, teams that depended on fitness and grit rather than technical ability".
Again here is your claim against me. "For you to claim these players and management had no idea what they were doing or had no technical ability"
Anyway enough.
You are dismissing the whole context of the posts. You are making claims that I said the management had no idea of what they were doing and that players had no technical ability. That one is well off the mark but you wont acknowledge it. I even named players with technical ability from the year they were beaten by Wexford. You are mis-representing the whole context of my opinion while avoiding the inaccuracies of your claims.
Firstly you were the one who said "This is a big difference to the primarily long ball game employed by Clare teams over the past few years, teams that depended on fitness and grit rather than technical ability" , is this not saying players had no technical ability
Secondly if managers are picking these players with no technical ability would this not mean they did not know what they were doing (ie) had no idea
This is a forum and you are entitled to your opinion but equally I am entitled to disagree with it so we will just agree to disagree unless you feel the need to continue it .
I am also interested to know how many Clare oscar traynor matches you have seen between 2000 and 2011 not including the two finals they got to . Now I am not trying to start another argument I am just curious as to what you base your opinion on
Simply put No. Also note the reference to "the past few years", it will be important for the remainder of this post.
As the answer to your first question is no it would be obvious that the answer to this one is, yes you have guessed it, No.Quote:

Disagree, yes, but not post responses and attribute your interpretation of my post as being what I said.Quote:

Now back to the important reference "to the past few years", the answer being enough to form an opinion over the performance of the past few years and give my opinion on those in comparison to this years squad. I am curious as to why you are only interested in the 12 years you mention. This would lead me to think you had an active part in those years and your posts are more in response on a personal level as oppose to discussing the initial subject of the improvement in the last 6 months and the comparative improvement in that period and the period which I expanded to the past few years to include the 2010 squad. And there was me thinking you were only responsible for the poor display last year.Quote:

I'll have to do some more detective work :)
