I'd put that down to being played out of position. Also, the Satuanton era must've really tested a lot of our players patience. Finnan came back when he didn't have to and that's a really good thing to see. From the list above I'd add that Whelan seems absolutely over the moon to be playing with Ireland.
I'd also point out that many managers have touted their players to be called up like Coyle with Chris McCann, Steve Bruce with Reid and McCleish with Keith Fahey. Don't think they'd bother unless those players had a strong desire to play for Ireland as I'm sure all EPL managers wouldn't mind if their players stayed at home during breaks to avoid injuries and have a rest.
Ireland makes interesting comments but I really don't think many players feel like he does.
