It be good to see him today against Arsenal how he performs
How'd he do?
I thought he looked accomplished
Has to start for Ireland ... best we have at left back
Wilson was obviously the player on media duty yesterday. Always interesting when it's someone new.

Key bits for me were that he had persistent injury problems last year and he did speak to trap in June. His American girlfriend was hospitalised so he had to look after her.
Yeah it could be, but Stokes' crime was withdrawing from the Carling cup squad and Ireland hasn't featured, therefore can't have breached Trap's law.
Some many "conflicts" these days that it is hard to keep track. Stokes announced he was tired and didn't want to be considered for the games with the North and Scotland. Wilson, Walters and McCarthy were awol for those games.
That leaves us with opportunity and out of all those, only Andy had the opportunity.
There is a conspiracy of silence around the naming of Andy as the unapologetic curfew breaking rascal.
It could be that Andy who might have gone through his youth being blamed for everything, didn't feel like apologising because he wasn't the ringleader, blamed in the wrong yet again. Other players who had cajoled Andy (against his will) to play yet another tune, got wind of Trap approaching, managed to make an exit out the side door, leaving Andy holding the banjo to face the music. Andy was the patsy and the other players kept mum to protect their own ásses. Andy didn't snitch on his mates even though they left him high and dry,
therefore Liam Brady praising Andy as a fine fellow of integrity.
I wouldn't say snitching, more being made an example of.
And happily for Trap Reid was the kinda player he didn't want in his team anyway, one that could play ball, but was less of a defending player.
Or in this case an offending player ;)
So it was a double victory for Trap.
Was there an Irish Times article as well? That second link just brings me to the main football page.
Anyway, great to hear Wilson's side of the story as that clarifies matters over which there still seemed to be residing clouds of suspicion for many people. Will be tough reading for Murfinator...
You have to play the detective Danny and you'll find the article on the soccer menu, without much tax.
Andy was the fall guy for the Mainz after-curfew session.
Seeing as Trap was ready to put him on as a sub against Montenegro, it appeared that the discipline breach was not a live issue at that time, probably it became an issue after that game and Andy was supposed to offer profuse apologies by the time they met up for the Cyprus game, or maybe some other new discipline issue emerged then. At that Cyprus game, Andy was pictured on the bench like a beached whale with a face longer than a sourpuss walrus. He had refused to apologise. After that game, Andy was not called up again, when no matter what people may think about Andy and Trap's system, he was definitely good enough for a squad number.
Trap let it spill out when he got his wires mixed up re Wilson, but if it wasn't Wilson then it had to be somebody else.
But didn't you more or less accuse him of pulling out of squads for no reason on an imaginary five or six occasions and showing a serious lack of commitment before knowing the full facts (or seemingly even the bare facts already made public)? The guy is clearly committed to the cause and had valid reasons for any withdrawal over which you were not merely suspicious, but unfairly accusatory.
I didn't see a single reason in that whole atricle that throws up what I would state are even passable excuses for any of his absences. His girlfriend was going to be on her own going into hospital so he couldn't go to the Euros? Unless she was getting open heart surgery then that's a fairly lame excuse. Either way she needs to get some friends.
He played 10 games for Stoke at the end of the season but couldn't even show up for an Ireland squad after a 3 month rest?
He's no Kevin Kilbane in the commitment league that's for sure. More so somewhere between Stephen Ireland and Anthony Stokes.
On the plus side maybe this will mean Stephen Ward won't get onto the pitch for the next few couple of games.
We can only hope.
Let me get this straight... you're postulating that Marc Wilson might have skipped a major international tournament in order to accompany his girlfriend to the dentist?
The first article in Stutts initial post makes no mention of being on standby. I've read it twice now. What article are you referring to? Anyway the sentiment stands. He had a chance of travelling to the Euros and instead of grasping at that chance with both hands which would at the very least have allowed him to get back into the fold if not the final squad he comes up with another lame excuse.
(a) Do you have a girlfriend/boyfriend?
(b) Has s/he had to go into hospital for surgery?
If both, then you'd know that being there for your partner in times like that is a fairly important part of being a couple. My gf has had a fair few surgeries in the past few years, and I'd put them above everything else. Being there for her when she needs you most is essential.
what happens of you split up and you habe missed all those important things.....
I think you need to get a hold of yourself and stay out of people's private business. People don't go into hospital for a laugh. Jon Walters and Darron Gibson have had to take care of ill loved ones in the past and that's perfectly acceptable. Family should always come first. Besides, as has been highlighted, Wilson wasn't even selected for the Euros squad; be that in the initial squad or as a replacement. If he had been selected, he was fairly clear that he would have been in Poland.
He played ten competitive games for his club through the pain-barrier with the aid of an injection. That's his professional duty; his job. If he's carrying a niggling ankle injury, there's no point risking him in international friendly fixtures. The FAI doctors never expressed any doubt over the veracity of his injury claims and indeed declared him unfit when he was selected in the squad for the Croatia friendly. He wasn't selected in any of our squads after that until the Serbia game. If he didn't feel entirely confident on his ankle the other week but feels fully fit now, great. I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt as he's been willing to clarify matters and his words are very positive with regard to his feelings for playing international football for us.Quote:

Doesnt look like Trap is going to start Wilson against kazak and no great surprise either I suppose. Unlikely to come on either bar an injury to Ward. I think the guy should start against Oman at least.
People seem to forget we are dealing with a man who misses Ireland friendlies at the drop of a hat not an established international who's been a dedicated servant for years. If Kevin Kilbane had to miss a few games because his wife was ill then I think everyone would have understood and respected his decision. Mark Wilson has been the boy who cried wolf of Ireland squads for far too long.
I don't particularly care about him pulling out of a single squad (or the potential to get into the squad) because his girlfriend was sick I care about him pulling out of every second squad with one excuse or the other while consistently appearing and playing the full (yes the full) 90 minutes for his team the following weekend. Actually I have to rephrase that I don't really care as let's be honest he's no Roberto Carlos - I'm just too old and not nearly gullible (idiotic) enough to believe him.
Which friendlies has Wilson pulled out of at the drop of a hat?
Erm, Wilson hasn't really had the chance to carve out a fifteen-year international career, so no point comparing him to Kilbane just yet. He was first selected for our senior squad in March of 2010 and answered the call without problem. Besides, when has he cried "wolf" (or lied, in other words?)? Whether it's Kilbane or Wilson, if a family member/girlfriend requires your company for something as serious as admission to hospital, that's a fair excuse to pull out of a squad. Not that Wilson did pull out of a squad on that occasion anyway; he wasn't even selected!Quote:

Perhaps you should familiarise yourself with the facts before commenting... When has Wilson pulled out of "every second squad"? You think he's lying about playing with the aid of injections for Stoke? Even the FAI doctors declared him unfit to play when he was called up for the Croatia game last year.Quote:

What are you his mother?
Perhaps the question should be when has he not pulled out of squads? He's pulled out of squads for the Carling Cup games. A squad for another friendly a few years ago post summer. He obviously didn't feel like making himself available to be on standby for the Euro squad despite having not contributed an ounce of effort to get the team there. And yes the Serbia game a few weeks ago. How many more examples do you need to bring you back to this little place I like to call reality?
I honestly don't get these heads who defend these players to the hilt in spite of all the logical signs that indicate that they might not be the demigods that they seem to expect them to be, for no justifiable reason I might add. The facts? What confidential facts are you privy to that have not been made available to us mere mortals that give you such great insight into the remarkable character of one Marc Wilson?
Brazil, Norway, Wales, Kazakhstan... He was selected for the Macedonia/Uruguay squad at the end of March last year but was sent home due to flu. He was declared unfit by the FAI's medical staff after travelling to Dublin for the Croatia friendly. Other than that, he's pulled out of the recent Serbia squad due to a fear over the niggling ankle injury that dogged him last season, the June 2011 Carling Cup squad, the earlier June 2011 Italy/Macedonia squad, where Tardelli publicly acknowledged he and Trap did not doubt his injury concerns, and the August 2010 Argentina squad. (For what it's worth, he also missed the 2010 FA Cup final due to injury.) Trap wouldn't have time for him if he thought he was bluffing his injury issues and whatever else was going on in his personal life. In contrast, Trap won't be calling up Anthony Stokes any time soon. Wilson hasn't been named in any of our other squads.
Erm, he wasn't selected to be part of the squads for our seven games prior to Euro 2012. How could he have contributed in such circumstances? And, as you know, his girlfriend was admitted to hospital and in need of his company when he got the Euros stand-by call. I don't know why you say he obviously didn't feel like making himself available. He was pretty emphatic that he'd have been in Poland had he been selected.Quote:

I'm not saying he's a saint - he's a human being, like anyone else - nor am I defending him to the hilt. :confused:Quote:

I just don't get these heads who get way ahead of themselves and like to stir up unnecessary animosity, suspicion, melodrama and scandal in relation to things about which they know little. You haven't a clue what goes on in the guy's personal life so you have little licence to be speculating about his commitment, or supposed lack of it, especially when (unlike Stephen Ireland or Anthony Stokes, perhaps) he's said absolutely nothing that should offend the sensibilities of Ireland fans. Although you would at times have to question whether some actually have sensibilities...
He's been excellent for Stoke today in the first half vs Chelsea. Supported the attack well on occasion, showed for the out ball a lot to help the centre mids. He has defended very solidly against an excellent Chelsea team. He even forced Cech into a good save with a shot from 25ish yards.
Also, not a fan at all, but Whelan has done well enough and his set piece delivery has been world class e.g Walters hitting the crossbar from one of his frees. Walters has worked very hard and enjoyed some success. Chelsea dominating possession but Stoke with 2 or 3 great chances.
Sorry, it was Huths free kick that Walters hit the post from but the point stands.
From BBC: "Stoke defender Marc Wilson is given an instant boxing-style shiner as he is caught in the face by Chico's stray boot. Swansea have been the better team this half but are yet to create a clear cut chance."
This is the same Chico who almost took Saha's head off a few weeks back with one of the highest boots in sporting history.
According to my stats site is is currently the highest rated available Irish player.

Hope I didn't miss anyone out.
Assist for Whelan today too, he provided the corner for a Crouch header.
TC, I suspect your frivolous threads addiction (extreme) has been replaced/substituted by a fascination for stat sites (less extreme).
you must have been doing maths in those english classes too tc.
